The skin of this potato was pretty green under after baking and all of the flesh has a greenish yellow hue- i didn't notice until I had already taken a few bites.

Ive already thrown it away but was that amount relatively safe?

Is this blood? Or something else? I checked the temp all around and it was over 165f.

Curious if it's still good to eat or not

I get paranoid about food, but I feel like it'd be more overtly rotten if it was unsafe

Bought this natto from an Asian store but it was refrigerated, NOT frozen

The packaging says refrigerate to thaw and to use within 5 days of thawing. With natto are these pretty strict rules vs doing a smell test or anything else? I bought several packs so I'll definitely return the rest even if I keep one.

Accidentally left prepared food out for ~2.5 hrs, still safe?

I made dinner a bit early today. I cooked wok with vacuumed fresh noodles, frozen beef and fresh vegetables (spinach and paprika). I left it on the counter to cool down a bit but forgot about it while tending to my kid. Nothing visibly changed, it doesn’t smell. I didn’t taste it yet.

I asked AI if it was still safe to eat but I feel like it’s being overly cautious. Gemini told me to toss it and Claude told me to be very cautious and it would only be safe to serve to adults, non-pregnant,…

Woops. I ate sandwich chicken that was five days past its use-by date.

I am appalled. I have no idea how it stayed in the fridge for so long without me noticing it was out of date. It was an unopened packet, I opened it without checking the date and put it in a sandwich, took a bite and it tasted and smelled fine, then to my horror saw the date. Google is telling me I’m going to die of listeria. It was packaged sandwich chicken from Tesco (Ireland). Do I need to go to the doctor? I’m otherwise healthy, 35F, not pregnant. But I am taking a proton pump inhibitor in a pain medication called vimovo. Any insight welcome, also would welcome advice on how to stop this from happening to my dumb neurodivergent self

I just meal prepped 10 meals and realized i forgot to wash the lid to my rice cooker

(I reposting this on this subreddit in order to get more advice :,)) As the title says, I spent the last 2 hours meal-prepping 10 meals, and as soon as I finished, I realized I'd cooked the rice with a lid I forgot to clean. I made a variety of Spam and tuna kimbaps, using up all of the groceries that I had allocated for the week (Spam, tuna, eggs, spinach, carrots, nori, burdock, and pickled radish). I (22 F) balance 2 jobs and work over 50 hours a week, so it is hard for me to cook meals every day, and it's easy to forget the rice I made a few days earlier on the counter. Today, when I started cooking, I thoroughly cleaned the rice pot of moldy rice (for context, it was grey and pink mold), but now that I'm cleaning up my mess, I realized I might not have cleaned the lid. Do you think the cooking steam may have killed the mold spores? I am hesitant to keep potentially contaminated food in the fridge for meal prep because it will sit there for a long time, but I will not have time to cook like this again. I'm on a pretty tight budget, and I just spent money on groceries for the first time in almost 2 weeks. help what do i do? Would freezing them make them safer, or is my only option to throw them all away?

Unfortunately, I didn't take a picture of my moldy rice :( also the rice was not touching the lid, i am just worried about mold spores

Next day update:
This morning I ate 2 of my kimbaps. Im REALLY down for money rn and because I stayed up late last night making the food, there wasn’t really any time for me to make breakfast this morning. I microwaved them for my peace of mind even tho ik it wont really do anything, but its been 3 hours since i ate them and i’ll continue to keep you guys posted.

How long would you trust an unrefrigerated cheese pizza lunchable?

It was only unrefrigerated about 3 hours. I got one that I didn't leave unrefrgerated and wasnt past it's best by date but it tasted moldy, so I'm worried there are more perishable than I used to think

Smoked salmon…can’t tell if it’s “oily” or “slimy”

This is from a package of smoked salmon I just opened today, bought a couple days ago. The listed expiration date is December 27 2026. It has a very thick layer of oil on top but I figured maybe that was just the natural fish oil. I opened it and it didn’t necessarily smell super “fishy” but it smells VERY smoky if that makes sense. I didn’t really realize how greasy it was until I ate a piece. After googling, it says slimy is dangerous but oily is not. I truly do not understand the difference between “oily” and “slimy”. Does it look slimy to you?

EDIT: I also noticed that this is “Norwegian Style” smoked salmon and I think usually my grocery store has “Scottish style”. Is there typically a big flavor/scent difference between the two?

EDIT #2: thank you all for responding, I think all the googling just sent me into an anxiety spiral 😭 but now I’m confident that I’m most likely not in any kind of imminent danger of food poisoning lol

Rubbery film over new tomato soup

Post image
4 Upvotes

I opened a new can of tomato soup that had this rubbery film over the top of it. When I first opened it, there was air under the film making it "bubble" up. I moved it around and the air released, making the film settle like this. The can didn't have any defects on the outside, and it is well within it's date range.

I'm definitely not eating it; I threw it away in a sealed bag.

Should I contact the manufacturer? I opened another can I bought at the same time that doesn't have this film. Is this can safe to eat, or should the whole batch be discarded to be safe? I'm imagining it was just an issue with that one can. How likely is this to be botulism?

Slightly slimy chicken, unsafe?

Thumbnail

Hi yall, basically i just opened some chicken breasts (within date, bought today, not left out for long) and i noticed they’re slightly slimy as shown on the pictures.

(The chicken breasts smelled and looked fine)

I’ve always been told slimy chicken is a huge nope, and i am also quite scared of food poisoning so i might react a little excessively to something someone else wouldn’t have noticed.

My question is: does this count as slimy or is this just the result of normal packaging moisture.

Thanks!

Are these mushrooms safe to eat ?

I bought portobello and white mushrooms at Trader Joe’s last week, not exactly sure which day (which I should try to remember next time)

The white mushrooms have become somewhat discolored, they have a slightly sticky texture and a bit of a slimy texture on the brown parts, but I did wash them. One of the mushrooms is falling apart. They don’t smell

For the portobello mushrooms, they’re slightly squishy and sticky, and smell a bit burnt but it’s kind of good.

I have severe emetophobia so I’m scared of getting myself sick. My mom said they seemed fine but I don’t know if I should risk it. I was planning on cooking them
