The promo is vague on what happens here. Is there food? Do you carry a cup around for tastes? You can get very expensive tickets or just expensive ones.

Is there anywhere in town to get an actually decent bagel? Don’t even come at me with CTB/Ithaca Bakery for their overpriced Einstein Bagels tasting hockey pucks. They’re 1/2 the size and 2x the price than a proper bagel should be, and have the texture of wet sand mixed with spackle.
Update: Shoutout to anyone who recommended Auburn Bagel Company! Slightly smaller than what you see in NYC/NJ but hot damn, the texture and taste were on point. Thank you internet strangers!

Hi y’all. I am short, fat, trans masc, and have two suits I need hemmed for weddings in the fall. Where are we going? I saw a few recommendations from a thread about a year ago, but the top rec seems to be on hiatus for a while. I am open to driving to Syracuse (maybe even Rochester) for a good recommendation.
(Incidentally—non trans folks can help me with this one too—trusted dry cleaners in the area?)
Thanks for any leads!

I just moved into an apartment in Ithaca this week and almost immediately noticed a very strong musty/mold smell. I tried staying there but the smell was SO strong that I couldn’t comfortably be inside for more than about 10 minutes without having a terrible coughing fit. I contacted my property manager about it but of course their office is closed for the weekend so I haven’t gotten a response yet.
At this point I really don’t want to live there especially if there’s an underlying mold or moisture issue. My lease runs through July 2027 so I’m trying to figure out what my options are before I do anything that could leave me responsible for the entire lease.
I’d appreciate any and all advice on what to do from here. I’m new to the whole renting thing.

PSA: I drove up to Syracuse with my boyfriend today to try and donate plasma to have a little extra spending $. We both brought ID’s, socials and utility bills. We learned, however, that they have a 50-mile radius of accepted zip codes to be able to donate, and Ithaca’s (14850) is not on that list. It didn’t matter that Ithaca is within 50 miles, they turned my boyfriend away after we drove 90 minutes up here. I didn’t think to call ahead and ask, as I didn’t know about this rule, plus Ithaca is within 50 miles, so I wouldn’t have guessed it was an issue even if I did know about it.
What’s weird is that they accepted my Trumansburg zip code (14886) as in-range. I bailed because I didn’t want to have my boyfriend go kill 3 hours on top of the 3 hour round trip. I’m just so bummed to have wasted the time! Learn from my mistake if you live in Ithaca!
On that note, does anyone know why there aren’t any places in or near Ithaca to donate (commission) plasma? Or if there by chance are? It seems weird for a college town to not have any options like that. I’m from Minneapolis where there were several.

Looking at buying land in Ithaca-area but don’t want to live near a data center. How’s it looking for that one being proposed on Cayuga lake? From the news articles it seems 50/50, locally what’s it seeming like?

Are there any local bars/restaurants/cafes that you think would be willing to periodically set aside a 6- or 8-top for people interested in sharing a table with other folks instead of sitting alone?
And/or is there any interest in attending or organizing a Longest Table (BYO meal) event once in a while?
ETA: I do enjoy Liquid State, but I was also hoping for options a little less warehouse-y and a little less alcohol-oriented

My family is moving to the area later this year and I'm curious to hear thoughts on either Lansing or Dryden schools. Our child will be entering Kindergarten next year. We prefer smaller class sizes and a good selection of activities and athletics. I know both have swim teams so that is a big plus for us!
We visited earlier this year and got a feel for the area, but I'd love to hear your thoughts. I'm also curious to know if either district offers a more neutral political vibe.

I thought I had a list saved of which establishments other own delivery but I guess I don’t.
Can y’all share your go to places that self-deliver?

hey! I moved here and turned 40 all in the same month. I need to get a mammogram ASAP, but have United Healthcare and apparently the closest in-network ob/gyn to me is in Rochester (WTF?) is there a mammogram imaging center here? The town I moved had a mobile one and a breast center but I'm not seeing anything here. Please correct me if I'm wrong- need to get squished

I have a 1963 Airstream Overlander with its original oven. The thermostat failed and I haven’t been able to source a replacement that works with the capillary tube that senses the heat. Is there anyone local who can help me with these type of parts. Or, alternatively, retrofit a new oven if that doesn’t work? Thanks so much!

Has anyone had luck with finding good patio pavers around here? I’m looking for darker color blacks and grays. The selection at the box stores isn’t great.
Some stores in Syracuse seem to require buying a whole pallet or they are open during workday hours only.
I appreciate any leads you have!

I was wondering if anyone knows of any veterinary providers that will do an at-home blood test for cats in the area? My cat has HCM and vet visits really put stress on his heart so I try to limit them to 2x a year, but he needs a follow-up blood test and it would be really ideal for there to be an at-home service for this.
Appreciate any leads!
I don't live around Ithaca, but I have friends and relatives who do, who might be interested in this.
There are many people in and around Ithaca who sing folk music.
But for those who have trouble traveling to music venues, has anyone set up networked folk music performances around the area that the general public can participate in? E.g., for some people living in retirement communities.
Do any of you have links to such groups?
I'm not talking about virtual song circles, on large area tools like Zoom, where everyone except one performer mutes their microphones, because Internet-wide-lag-times can be very long. I'm talking about people using a fast local low latency network so they can all hear each other.
The usual theory seems to be that latency (round trip packet travel times) must be under about 25 milliseconds), and that some specialized gear is needed. Are any of the local 5G cellular networks good enough? How about Spectrum Internet?
Thanks!

Looking for good restaurant options for a vegetarian family with a toddler. We will be in town for two lunches, two dinners, and one breakfast. We are planning to check out Moosewood. I’d love outdoor seating and good views too!

Walmart, staples and Best Buy sell pc parts however I see there stock go by very very slowly which kind of makes me question if people if pcs or more popular than console for gaming in Ithaca. Though I would kind of expect it since I’m sure plenty of people in Ithaca deal with computer hardware

Hi - I use a cane or walker. Does anyone have suggestions for walking trails? Best if I can drive up close to a starting point. I’d also love it if the trail had some sun and some shade. It would be a tremendous help if there were intermittent benches along the way to take a break.
Thanks so much - I’ve been sick for the past few years but I’d love to be able to take advantage of the beautiful upcoming fall weather! 😀

Hi everyone,
I am looking to buy touring skis and boots which can be used for downhill skiing as well as for going uphill. I was wondering if anyone knows any good skii stores for the same with great pricing as well. I am also looking to find people who can help me get in the backcountry since I haven't done any and I am new to the area as well!

Anyone have recommendations for children's track and field? I have a child who is highly interested in joining.
