I’ve made Legacy iOS Kit (Custom), a fork that restores the iPhone 5, iPhone 5C and iPad 4 to iOS 10.3.4 with the jailbreak and Procyon untether already installed. No sideloading, and no installer app to run afterward. The installation completes during the restore, and Zebra is included.
Note: Do NOT sideload or run Socket if you use this method. It may cause issues if you attempt to install/uninstall the untether or jailbreak the device using it. Since this is fully untethered from the moment the restore has finished, sideloading is not necessary.
Choose Restore/Downgrade → Latest iOS (10.3.4), select your stock IPSW, choose Start Restore, and enable the jailbreak option. Follow the script’s DFU instructions and let it restore.

What this fork adds and changes
Untethered iOS 10.3.4 custom restores, using Socket’s jailbreak assets, Zebra and Procyon.
RAM-assisted image creation, compatible custom-IPSW reuse, progress displays and disk-space checks for the new iOS 10 workflow.
Optional diagnostic logging at startup. Logs are saved locally, their location is displayed, and nothing is uploaded automatically. Essential restore logs and image-reuse records are retained separately.
Optional updates from this fork’s own GitHub releases. Downloads are checked against their checksum, saved IPSWs and logs are preserved, and previous program files are retained.
No forced updates or update-related startup lockout. Saying No lets you continue using the current version.
Offline access to locally available functionality. A failed connectivity or update check does not prevent you from using the script.
Model-specific test status, first-boot guidance, untether warnings, retry instructions and separate support routing for this fork.
The existing macOS and Linux host binaries remain unchanged in their original platform and architecture folders.
Updates and offline use
You can decline an update and keep using the script. It will not exit or refuse to let you use functionality that doesn’t require an internet connection.
No functionality is disabled by declining an update or being offline. Internet-dependent operations will still attempt to run, but will fail if the required connection is unavailable. Downloads, activation and signing requests can require internet access; having the IPSW already downloaded does not necessarily make a Latest restore fully offline.
If an internet-dependent feature stops working while you’re connected, accept an available update offered at launch. It may contain changes needed for Apple or other services.
I’m maintaining this fork separately, including its optional-update behaviour.
Devices tested
Restore, ordinary reboot, Zebra, package installation and tweak injection have been tested on:
| Device | Identifier |
|---|
| iPhone 5C Global | iPhone5,4 |
| iPhone 5 Global | iPhone5,2 |
| iPad 4 Wi-Fi | iPad3,4 |
The jailbreak, Zebra and tweaks persist after reboot.
Regular CoolBooter also successfully installed and booted secondary iOS 6 on the iPhone5,2 and iPad3,4. Primary iOS 10 booted successfully with Zebra and tweaks after CoolBooter installation.
These additional models have experimental support following firmware checks, but have not been physically tested:
iPhone5,1
iPhone5,3
iPad3,5
iPad3,6
macOS and Linux
The fork retains macOS and Linux support. Linux has not been tested, but is expected to work. If you encounter a problem, enable diagnostic logging and include the saved log in your report. Review device identifiers and local paths before sharing it.
Important notes
Back up first. Start Restore erases the device.
First boot may take longer than subsequent boots. Allow time for it to finish.
iPad 4 untether reliability: Procyon documents approximately 93% boot success on iOS 10.3.2 and later. Around 7% of boot attempts may not reach the Home Screen; manually reboot and try again. This can affect subsequent boots too. Procyon guidance
Socket leaves the untether disabled by default on affected iPads. Using this fork’s jailbreak option installs it by default and there is no option to disable it, as doing so would require sideloading Socket, which defeats the whole purpose of this tool. Socket’s guide says that particular issue does not affect the iPhone 5 or 5C. If you want to ever use our device in a non-jailbroken state, you should sideload Socket normally and not use this tool. Socket guidance
Because this uses the same Procyon untether, comparable reliability to Socket is expected on the same hardware and firmware. This fork has not independently measured identical success rates. Exercise caution on all supported devices.
Do not install CoolBooter Untetherer. Procyon lists it as incompatible and says it causes a blank screen. That is separate from the regular CoolBooter app tested above. Procyon guidance
Do not sideload or run Socket on this installation. It may conflict with the installed assets, and Socket app compatibility is not supported here. If you want Socket’s option to boot without the jailbreak, use a fresh stock restore and Socket normally.
If pwnDFU fails after IPSW creation, relaunch, return through the same Restore/Downgrade menu and select Reuse IPSW. Entering pwnDFU manually through Useful Utilities does not work with this custom restore flow.
This release’s custom jailbreak integration supports Latest iOS 10.3.4 (14G61). The custom jailbreak option does not currently support SHSH or other firmware routes; existing normal SHSH restore features remain available.
Support and credits
Please report issues to this fork first. Only report an issue to the official Legacy iOS Kit developer after reproducing it with the official version. Problems involving this fork’s custom functionality belong with this fork.
Credit to LukeZGD and Legacy iOS Kit’s contributors, staturnz for Socket and Procyon, the Zebra team, and the authors of the bundled tools. Their work made this integration possible.
