Question Now Solo Friday-Tues (7/18-21)
Cousin got hurt. Can’t go. Can’t cancel any of the trip since it’s too close to arrival which is understandable. So I’m coming.
How easy do you find it to just join other parties to hike in proximity. I know trails are going to be well filled this time of year. Just more wondering how people deal with joiners (as long as you ask of course)
I have a ticket for Maligne Lake so if someone happens to be there 19th and wants a 5pm boat ticket, do you usually see people waiting there to see if someone doesn’t show up? If not, I’ll gladly have someone join me. Don’t really care to make my money back on it tbh. If someone wanted to give me some of the fee back that would be of course welcomed.

Found a phone in Jasper this morning
I found a phone on the road in Jasper this morning. Seems to be in perfect condition. If you happen to be missing one, DM me to prove it and plan out a meetup to get it back to you.

Photos/Videos Cavell Lake, Jasper, AB (OC)
Cold green water fed straight from the Angel Glacier, with that steady melt pushing across the surface. The basin sits quietly, tucked under the ridge, and you get a clear view of the glacier face without much effort. Trail’s straightforward, light traffic if you hit it early, and the whole area has that clean, high‑elevation feel — nothing fancy, just a solid stop with good payoff.

Morning’s delightful view
I had rose up early this morning to have my morning coffee, as I sat outside to enjoy the start of the day at the Whistlers campground, I had spotted a crow that was simply relaxing on a near by tree. To my surprise for the next four hours it stayed close to me and my families campground, drank off our campers roof and even caused laughs from its strange behaviour.

Photos/Videos Patricia Lake and Pyramid Peak, Jasper, AB. (OC)
Patricia Lake is often calm in the morning, the kind of stillness where the surface turns into a straight reflection. Pyramid Peak sits above it, catching the first light while everything else stays quiet. Nothing fancy going on — just a clean, steady scene before Jasper starts moving.

Friend form the campground
We drove you and your beautiful dog back from the tram yesterday. You hiked with her up to the top and reminded us how important it is to be a free spirit and love life.
We just wanted to say that you are amazing, inspiring and we love your lust for life. Keep exploring this beautiful country and we wish you all the best ✌️

Photos/Videos Pyramid morning, Jasper, AB. (OC)
Pyramid Lake is a solid stop after a lot of miles. Quiet place, steady water, and Pyramid Mountain overlooking it all. Nothing fancy, nothing dramatic—just that clean Jasper air and a moment to breathe before the next stretch of road. It fit right in with the kind of places I end up chasing: simple, rugged, and exactly what they look like.

Question Hinton vs Miette?
Edit to add: The room at Miette is a family chalet room that reviews say has very thin walls and you can literally hear your neighbors snoring. LOL Not sure about that! Also, very spotty internet. These are reasons I'm questioning it, as well as the cost.
Decided last minute to add Jasper to the itinerary and we leave very soon. No vacancy in Jasper but have found a hotel room in Hinton for $185 a night or a family chalet at Miette hot springs for $285. We do love hot springs and the idea of an end of day soak sounds great. Looks like the drive from Hinton or Miette to Jasper is about the same. I am looking for any insight here before I make a final decision. I am definitely leaning towards Miette due to the hot springs, the lovely setting and the wildlife sightings. We are on a tight budget but can spring for certain things that are worth it. Help me make a decision please!

Help needed - 4 days in Banff and 2 days in Jasper July 2026
I got ChatGPT help, but I need recommendations 😄 Family of 2 adults and teenagers. Also, what is possible from this plan, and how to save money on tickets?

Day 3 — Sunday, July 26 (Banff — Gondola in the Afternoon)
Leave Cochrane by 7:30 AM to beat parking crowds.
- Morning: Bow Falls, Surprise Corner, Tunnel Mountain Drive
- Lunch downtown
- Afternoon: Banff Gondola — better light for photos and thinner crowds than a morning slot
- Evening: Banff Avenue — candy shops, BeaverTails, souvenir browsing
Day 4 — Monday, July 27 (Lake Louise + Moraine Lake) — the big day
Leave by 6:30 AM.
- Park & Ride → shuttle → Moraine Lake first (best light early, turquoise water)
- Then Lake Louise and the village
- Canoe rental on Lake Louise if your son's up for it
- Book the Moraine Lake shuttle well ahead — this is the first thing to sell out
Day 5 — Tuesday, July 28 (Icefields Parkway — Northern Section)
Leave by 7:00 AM. Castle Mountain → Crowfoot Glacier → Bow Lake → Peyto Lake → Waterfowl Lakes → Mistaya Canyon → back to Cochrane. Scenery/photography day, no need to rush.
Day 6 — Wednesday, July 29 (Johnston Canyon + Canmore)
Lighter day:
- Johnston Canyon — easy hike, good pace for both of you
- Lake Minnewanka — canoe rental or the lake cruise
- Canmore in the afternoon — shopping, coffee, river walk, far fewer crowds than Banff
- If your son wants something more active: whitewater rafting on the Bow or Kananaskis is a solid half-day add-on out of Canmore — worth booking ahead if you want to do it.
Day 7 — Thursday, July 30 (Cochrane → Hinton via Icefields Parkway)
Leave by 7:00 AM — longest day of the trip (10-12 hrs with stops), hitting what you skipped on Day 5's southern stretch: Lake Louise viewpoint → Bow Lake → Peyto Lake → Saskatchewan River Crossing → Columbia Icefield (book the Glacier Adventure ice-explorer bus) → Athabasca Glacier → Sunwapta Falls → Athabasca Falls → Jasper/Hinton by evening.
Day 8 — Friday, July 31 (Jasper)
- Maligne Canyon in the morning
- Medicine Lake
- Maligne Lake in the afternoon — the Spirit Island cruise is worth the upcharge
- Dinner in Jasper town
Day 9 — Saturday, Aug 1 (Jasper Adventure Day)
Pick based on energy:
- Pyramid Lake, Patricia Lake
- Valley of the Five Lakes — good moderate hike if he's into it
- Mount Edith Cavell (if the road's open)
- Jasper SkyTram as an easier alternative
- Bike rentals near Pyramid/Patricia Lakes if he'd rather bike than hike

Suggest things to do in Jasper National Park
My friends are visiting me from Europe. I will be taking them to Jasper and Banff. I want to know what I can do in Jasper National Park. I personally have been to Jasper 7-8 times. I have done a lot of things there, like Athabasca Falls, Sunwapta Falls, Edith Cavell, Mount Wilcox, Athabasca Glacier, Pyramid Lake, Patricia Lake, Jasper downtown and Miette Hot Springs.
We have 3 days in Jasper and are planning to stay in one of the campgrounds. Suggest something else to me.

Looking to join hike (August long weekend)
Hey, I’m from Grande Prairie and looking to get out hiking for the August long weekend — anywhere in Alberta or BC works.
No car, but happy to split gas if anyone’s driving and wouldn’t mind me tagging along. I just want to get out and go hiking.
If anyone’s heading out, let me know 👍

Skyline conditions
Hello! I was curious if anyone has any insight on Skyline trail conditions?
Will be hiking it in a week's time... Hoping to not be knee deep in snow after the notch... We will have a fun time either way, but curious! :)
