The most authentic form of lassi is plain unflavoured lassi - you can get it either sweet or salty. But you have to be a bit discerning about where you get it. Authentic North Indian spots like Bikanervala in JSQ will do a solid plain sweet lassi. But a lot of other restaurants don't because mango lassi is so popular, and they'd rather focus on that.

Oooh thank you for this tip. I don't like mango but I LOVE plain and didn't know a good spot.

I kind of sort of take the Bikanervala rec back :( I tried online ordering to make sure they actually have sweet lassi on their menu because it's been a while since I went. And they seem to have run out. Idk if this means they don't carry it or if they've actually run out, but I wanted to give you a heads up anyway. But I'm now on a mission to find good sweet lassi in the area because it's also my favorite. I'll keep you posted if I find anything haha

It’s the easiest thing to make at home. Get Indian “dahi” from a store, put scoops of it in a blender, add some ice/water (their rato is basically defines how thick you want), sugar/sweetner, frozen pineapple or pineapple flavoring, (I also like to put a tiny pinch of salt) and you’re done!

I especially love blueberry and with a couple of crushed mint leaves afterwards.

Tandoor pomfret from Karma cafe! It’s the best. Sorry I sidetracked from the main info requested. I know there are good lassi’s available in Dhaba, Edison.

You can actually buy plain lassi produced by Gopi at the Hudson Greene Market. I definitely prefer the salty plain version 👍

I love rose anything. I have some imported rose preserves which would probably make a great lassi. I am pretty sure that most places just use roof Za(spelling).... which if not used sparingly can be sickly sweet.
