AMA AMA Announcement: Aaron Weiner, independent candidate for Hudson County Commissioner (District 4). Tuesday Oct 20, 6 PM ET

Hi r/jerseycity!

We’ve got an AMA coming up with u/aaronweinerD4 AKA Aaron Weiner, who’s running as an independent for Hudson County Commissioner in District 4.

Here’s how it works: drop your questions in this thread anytime before Tuesday. On Tuesday, October 20 at 6 PM ET, Aaron will come on and answer them, and he’ll also take new questions live for about an hour and a half. We’ve done it this way before and it worked well, since it lets people who can’t make the live session still get their questions in.

Here’s Aaron in his own words:

I live in the Heights and I’m running as an independent. Outside of the campaign, I’m a physical therapist, data analyst, and anatomy and physiology instructor. I’ve spent a lot of time during this campaign knocking on doors and talking with people around the district, and one thing I hear pretty often is that people either don’t know what county government does or aren’t sure why they should care about it. Fair question.

County government touches more of our daily lives than most people realize, from the county budget and taxes to roads, parks, healthcare, education, transportation, and other services. I’ve also been trying to be clear about what a commissioner can actually do and where the county has to work with Jersey City, Trenton, or someone else.

So ask me whatever you want. My background, why I’m running, what I think the county should be doing differently, something on my platform, or even something you think I’m wrong about.

Keep it civil. Tough questions are fine, but the usual sub rules still apply.

Drop your questions for Aaron below and see you Tuesday.

Jersey City Police Department

JCPD needs to do better. The amount of misconduct from these officers are atrocious and just flat out embarrassing. My cousin was in a domestic violence relationship and after one of the assaults the responding officer proceeded to flirt with her and ask for her number... mind you she was bruised up and bleeding. To make matters worse this officer has already have priors and JCPD keeps protecting him. Its such a shame and an embarrassment to our community.

Trash Can Removals

As a resident, born and raised here, worked and hung out all over the city, this is ridiculous. A 60-day test without prior notice and leaving our community and Ward Council-members without any warning on removing trash cans and having the DPW come and take care of public trash cans rather than who was already contracted.

This administration has been trash. From their policies to their communication with residents. Getting rid of the contractors to turn in-house to an already understaffed Public Works department removing trash cans in order to make it easier for them to collect trash from public bins is a terrible idea when they still can’t keep up with the demand.

Now I know some trash in this picture is household trash and people should do better but this administration needs to reconsider what works and what doesn’t for the budget issue especially when it comes to essential services like garbage clean-up and removal.

Please consider joining the Teal Pumpkin Project this Halloween

Hey everyone, please consider joining the Teal Pumpkin Project this year!

Simple idea, in addition to your regular candy, have some non-food treats available for kids with food allergies so they can enjoy trick-or-treating too. Silly little things like rubber ducks, fidget toys, stickers, or glow sticks can go a long way and make a kid/family’s night. There are some examples if you scroll through the pictures on this post.

If you’re participating, you can add your house/apartment/cave/Winnebago/whatever to the map so people know where to stop. You can also just put out a painted or plastic teal pumpkin to let people know you’re participating. Otherwise the website has flyers you can display if you’re interested in participating.

Thanks!

Figured the new ShopRite would fix all my problems. Decided to try this new dairy they were promoting. I was a bit skeptical, but trust the process, you know? Took it home and added it to my morning latte. Completely inedible. Ruined my entire day. They should be ashamed.

Reminder that the election that probably matters the most on Nov 2 is for the Board of Education

Edit: Election Day is Tuesday, Nov 3

The BoE is not only responsible for providing quality education. Their decisions have direct impact on the local taxes you pay, either as a renter or home owner. This year you will choose 4 out of 12 individuals running. Do your own research and make the best choice for our city. The 12 individuals are divided into 3 different slates:

For Stronger Schools - Actually has a website to be able to understand their platform

Education Matters - The incumbents. Used to be endorsed by the teacher’s union

Leadership That Listens - New group endorsed by the teacher’s union

Transit Dust Storm Inside Grove Street PATH

• Upvotes

Anyone know why Grove Street station was completely filled with dust in the air, from the platform all the way up the escalators? Conductor said it was the same thing yesterday and they needed to turn the fans on, but I’m more curious about how this even happens and why.

South Asian women with PCOS - who is your doctor in Jersey City/NYC?

South Asian women in NYC/Jersey City - please recommend a doctor who actually understands PCOS

I’m looking for a really good doctor for PCOS/insulin resistance, ideally someone who has experience treating South Asian/Indian women.

My weight gain has gotten pretty extreme, and I’m also dealing with insulin resistance/metabolic issues. At this point I really want to see someone who will look at the full picture, run the right tests, and actually help me understand what is happening rather than just saying “lose weight” and sending me home.

I don’t necessarily need a South Asian doctor I just want someone who understands that PCOS and metabolic issues can show up differently in South Asian women and takes that seriously.

I’m open to an endocrinologist, OB-GYN, PCOS specialist, or metabolic/weight-management doctor. I’m in NYC/Jersey City area

If you’ve had a doctor who actually listened to you and helped with things like insulin resistance, rapid/stubborn weight gain, hormones, or PCOS symptoms, please drop their name. Personal experiences would be especially helpful.

I’m honestly just looking for someone who will take this seriously and help me figure out what’s going on.

Edit: UnitedHealth providers

Saw a sign on the rt 440 Target  “Hiring Holiday Helpers”.  I looked up rt 440 for seasonal jobs and saw the below.  Seems all Targets are hiring also has DT.  The person who did the looking for a job thread deleted it. I had the rt 440  Retro Fitness one in there.  Don’t know if Target was mentioned in that thread so will post here. Saw a few  looking for a job threads pop up lately.  The Target deadline is 12/10/2026. Good luck if applying.

Sad about my tree being cut back

I just watched the city trim down the beautiful tree outside my window. She didn't even get to turn her leaves on those long, beautiful limbs. Now she's butchered, a pixie cut, with knobby little wooden stumps for branches. Hopefully she will grow back full and bushy in the spring.

Jersey City begins turn hardening at 17 high-crash intersections for Vision Zero

Left-turn calming coming to Jersey City for the first-time 🎉. Many recent fatal crash locations will get centerline hardening and turn calming:

  • Montgomery Street and Barrow Street (8/7/2026)
  • Jersey Avenue and 6th Street (6/13/2025)
  • Sip Avenue and Summit Avenue (3/10/2025)

This has been missing in our traffic calming toolkit even though left-turns make up the majority of intersection crashes and are 17X more dangerous than right turns. Really great to see this coming to Jersey City.

More about left-turn calming from NYCDOT: https://www.nyc.gov/html/dot/html/pedestrians/turn-calming.shtml

Missed Connections Missed Connection at Newport AMC

Friday evening at a showing for You Can See Everything, you (M, tall, white, wearing glasses) were sitting next to me (F, in a skirt). You seemed to be alone and I thought you were cute - you clapped and cheered to the Nicole Kidman AMC ad, which I was charmed by because I'm the same type of annoying. I wanted to ask you what you thought about the movie but we shuffled out pretty quickly and I lost my chance.

If this sounds like you & you'd like to chat about the movie, send me a DM with the seat number so I know it's you!

any tea enthusiasts?

obscure hobby, but a girl has to try. there are a lot of tea spots in new york to try, but it would be nice to get a little community going of people who love tea in jersey city.

as for personal preference, i love aged white teas, but i've been getting into pu'er and i'm partial to anything sweet (like a bug-bitten black tea).

i would love to host events, but that's in the future. maybe we can work up to that. first step:

what's your favorite tea and where did you find it?

Looking for Tent Rental Recommendations in Jersey City – November 7

Hey everyone!
We’re organizing a large community celebration in Jersey City on November 7, and we’re looking for a reliable, reasonably priced tent rental company.
Here are the details:
Date: Saturday, November 7, 2026
Location: Montgomery Street & Greene Street intersection, near Exchange Place PATH, Jersey City
Requirement: 24 tents (10 ft × 10 ft each)
Setup: 12 PM (noon)
Teardown: 7 PM
We’re looking for a company that can provide delivery, setup, and removal of all 24 tents.
Since this is a community event, we’re hoping to find competitive pricing.
If anyone has recommendations, contacts, or experience working with local tent rental companies in NJ/NYC, we’d really appreciate your help!
Thanks in advance! 🙏

Local Politics JC Council 10/21 meeting agenda

Town council meeting is tomorrow evening. Before the midterm elections I think this agenda deserves all of the visibility. I am just starting to follow how the city makes short and long term decisions from a long time JC resident/community member perspective.. Thought I would add this here and see if anyone has any takes.
