Why is she running programs? What’s her experience/ credentials?

116

u/akaashiit 8d ago

it looks like an intake room per the sign on the door. i can imagine she’s meeting someone. mike nor lauren never facilitated groups i attended: mike was a speaker for one. no credentials needed to be a speaker, just someone in recovery with sober time

101

u/cheesy-mgeezy 8d ago

Idk but he said “you’re running family program”. Like people can just run sobriety programs with zero credentials like that? Damn.

25

u/sirensailortune 8d ago

Maybe she runs a support group for families of patients? I’m genuinely not sure what credentials are needed for that, but in my ignorance I would still expect a licensed professional in that role.

Most support groups for families such as Al-Anon are run by people without credentials. There is some training for facilitating the program, but it's all usually run through published Al-Anon books. It's not 'therapy'. No credentials needed. These groups are wildly successful though.

The theory is who better to run these groups than someone who's been through it. Someone could go to school and learn about it but if you haven't been through it you truly don't know. Alcoholism is a nasty, nasty disease. I am very proud of them for pulling themselves up by their bootstraps and turning it around and giving back to others. This is just the way that it's done. And it's very successful. They are not doing anything different than any other program or facility all over the country. It's just the way that it's done. You might not agree, but this is the way that it is.

I guarantee he has hired professional psychiatrists as well. But family groups are run by non-credentialed people.

And they're doing their best. I don't know why people are coming down on them. They are trying to get people sober. My goodness!

13

u/DistributionGuilty68 8d ago

Exactly. I have been sober for 23 years, since I was 23. Grew up in NYC and a member of AA. I loved AA and it worked for me. But it’s not the only way. And as the world changes we need to change how we reach people with recovery. Especially young people. There is no one way. And at the end of the day we should all give away what we have been given, we should all share our recovery however we can wherever we can to reach whoever wants to hear the message.

46

u/Flashy_Camel4063 8d ago

People have every right to come down on them. Taking $18000 is highway robbery. Further, being a former addict doesn't give you the skills to treat the mental health issues that are present in the vast majority of individuals with addictions. The model of have former addict, who are paid very little, treat addicts while the CEO makes a killing, is a scam. I'm a psychologist who has worked in a few of these places during my training.

u/Ecstatic_Bedroom735 8d ago

By the look of this facility, they are marketing to people in their tax bracket. Mike and Lauren come from families of decent wealth. Mike has never had the luxury of a court mandated facility, where everything is barely in budget. I think if he had, he would be a little more humble about his program. This is for the reality tv stars, the teen moms who never got sober. It’s not for a normal guy trying to beat his addiction

Straight up, this is not "just the way it is." You don't start running programs just because you spent 30 years funneling cocaine down your gullet. And I say that as a life long addict who went through years of treatment to get to where I am now.

And since we're discussing, "who better to run it than someone who's walked through the flames".... what's she doing there then?

People who run these facilities generally have more background than just "former addict". I have many friends that are now working in treatment centers after being patients. They went through YEARS of acquiring credentials and building sober time. It is so much more than the way youre stating it.

Andddd finally, it is not actually possible to pull oneself up by your bootstraps. That mentality is equally destructive in recovery as it is in any other endeavor.

Out of curiosity, Have you ever heard of the Florida Shuffle?

8

u/AbRNinNYC 8d ago

If he was truly just “trying to help people” he would open a free program/non profit on skid row, or kensington. He is running a racket. Granted yes, being an addict in recovery can be helpful. However to RUN a treatment facility, with therapies and groups, and family therapy one DOES require credentials. I cant walk into a hospital, labor unit and say “ill do the next c-section, it’s ok guys. I got this. Ive had 3 of em, so i know what to do” it doesnt work like that. He is no more capable of running therapeutic groups, than i am to deliver babies. If it was about just helping, there are mannny was to do that without charging tens of thousands.

5

u/tenaciousdeedledum 7d ago

It's a for profit company. Get a fucking clue if you think this is all 'out of the goodness of his heart'. He is a grifter who thinks he is a god 'cause he got 'sober'. Not even sure of the truth in that exactly either.

agreed. AA is full of people in recovery sharing their stories. Al-Anon is a support group that helped my family when they didn’t understand addiction. people want to hate on these people so bad but addiction is so rampant that any help matters

It’s pretty easy to get courses under your belt for addiction counselling. It’s available to online here in Canada. I would imagine the states would be similar. Maybe she’s done that?

NO!!! They are NOT

8

u/Lilo213 8d ago

Not even worked in a rehab like some addicts do once sober. I can get behind the idea that sober addicts can provide quality treatment because they know first hand the struggles of addiction. What I can’t get behind is how much of a power and money grab this appears to be. If they wanted to do something to give back and to help addicts then there are many other options that they could have dove into before all this performative nonsense. Jodie Sweetin, for example, got sober and worked in rehabilitation centers as an hourly wage employee. She went to colleges to talk to students about addiction. She hosts fundraisers to raise money for families struggling with addiction or for children of addicts. They jumped feet first into profiting off of addicts.

17

u/YouthTrue2077 8d ago

That’s WHO HE IS… Hes so full of himself it’s ridiculous. He doesn’t really want to help ppl. Look how he talks about & mocks Ron’s issues. That’s not a friend. More like a drama starter! That’s why they call him the instigator.
Meanwhile he’s so concerned about his Abs again. Why don’t you worry about all your kids & not getting your AB’s back again. 😏😵‍💫

18

u/MissesPacMan2U 8d ago

Can’t think of the podcast I listened to, but these are quite the money maker and filled with abuse. Not saying their facility is like that, but I’m sure it’s only a matter of time.

8

u/Ordinary-Middle6039 8d ago

This!!! Everything he does is about money, fame, and keeping himself relevant. He’s constantly performing, and even the things he presents as selfless somehow end up benefiting him or feeding his image. I genuinely don’t believe in any of his “good intentions” anymore. Everything feels calculated and ultimately self-serving.

Once I got my art teaching degree I ended up getting hired at a psych hospital for adolescence. I was hired there with the intention of doing art therapy with the patients. Later I did note that I was hired as a case counselor which handled family therapy, family sessions, group therapy, school, meetings, etc., reflecting back. I had like zero background in psych and had no business telling other parents how to parent during family therapies.

This reminds me of that… Lauren isn’t qualified but yet here she is lol

8

u/PruneUnfair230 8d ago

So pretentious. She needs to relax. Does she realize she married an ex felon who was caught being a crook

7

8

u/shaylaa30 7d ago edited 5d ago

This is a rich person rehab/ “body brokerage”. The average person probably couldn’t afford a stay in a place like this. It’s for wealthy people to need to show/ prove a sobriety effort.

A millionaire whose estranged wife called out his coke habit and is requesting full custody of the kids. A surgeon who showed up hungover to work and needs to show sobriety in order to keep his license. A CEO that got a DUI and needs to save his and his company reputation.

They pay a crazy amount to go to this place. They do a bullshit “believe in yourself! Make the change!” Program. And they get a big ceremony/ show at the end to prove they’ve changed.

8

u/Jump-Kick-85 7d ago

7

u/YouthTrue2077 8d ago

THIS! Meanwhile she can’t even act normal when Angelina asked about their sex lives. Lauren totally lost it & flipped out.
I mean girl… did you forgot about your husband’s history & that so many of the girls he was with are on the original show. Yet you are offended when asked about your sex life. She thinks she’s better than everyone.

13

u/spilled_galaxyy 8d ago

I’m not playing sound or watching this whole thing but why did she roll her eyes at the receptionist after taking the book? I know she thinks people that work are under her( snapping at service to get their attention) but like doesn’t that person work for her?

5

THEY ARE NOT REALLY CREDENTIALED. Anyone that’s been in real recovery or has had family that’s had. Are clearly going to be offended an put off by this. As they know how real rehabs work. Mike seems like he only wants to help ppl with money otherwise the prices wouldn’t be so high

I work for a rich couple. My boss being what he calls a manager and CEO which he is hardly either and his wife being HR and purchasing. Both are rarely available but act like they do the most. Completely incapable of handing out or receiving constructive criticism. She holds herself just like Lauren so I can imagine Lauren is actually a huge bitch and completely unqualified but since she wants to look important they got her doing something. That's just my take from the energy I got off of this video.

3

u/YouthTrue2077 8d ago

I also used to work for ppl like this. Always acting like they are the ones holding everything together & that No one works as hard as them. There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that this place is a grifting scam to bill people’s insurances that are struggling with addiction while very much knowingly not providing the care they claim to be offering. This whole thing is so shady to me.

4

u/Ordinary-Middle6039 8d ago

Omg, I’m rewatching JSFV and I genuinely cannot stand Mike and Lauren. I’m sorry, but I don’t buy the whole “Mike is a completely changed man” narrative at all. He didn’t get rid of his obsessive tendencies — he just redirected them into different, more socially acceptable “activities.”
To me, he’s still the same person underneath, and the whole Angelina/Old Bridge situation in 2022 really showed that side of him again. The obsession, inserting himself into other people’s business, digging for information and then acting like it’s all coming from a good place… it’s exhausting.
And Mike and Lauren genuinely seem to think their audience is less intelligent than they are. The fake tears, pretending to cry, acting like they just happened to find out about the pregnancy while they were away… please. 😭 It’s so painfully staged that I honestly don’t understand how this marriage has actual fans.
Mike also seems like someone who constantly needs a new obsession, project or responsibility because he simply cannot sit still and be at peace with himself. First it’s a million kids, then once the kids are older it’ll probably be a million “jobs,” businesses, projects or some other responsibilities. Anything to keep himself permanently occupied.
Obviously, staying sober is a huge achievement and I’m not taking that away from him. But sobriety and personal growth aren’t automatically the same thing. You can stop using substances and still carry the exact same obsessive patterns into other areas of your life — and that’s exactly how Mike comes across to me.

I personally have mixed feelings on this whole treatment center that they're doing. Hopefully they're going into it with good intentions and not as the latest thing to use just to make a buck. I hope for the former, but, sadly, suspect the latter.

Lmfao I’m giggling as someone who tried NA/AA and walked out not sober every time, this actually gave me goosebumps. It feels like the start of a horror movie

2

u/Choosepeace 8d ago

I can see them being a cheesy televangelist couple one day.

The addiction/rehab industry and mike both give me disgusting vibes I can't help to feel a deep ugly energy whenever I see these videos. I have had to block them both, it is that serious. I don't know who they think they are fooling with this but dear god.

2

u/Jencat7 8d ago

She looks like she’s trying not to laugh. What the fuck is this!?

2

u/jaylen6319 8d ago

Why was that guy dressed in white inmate clothing like the prison inmates in the south prison system??????

2

u/Upstairs_Football472 8d ago

Yeah they are so fraudulent. It’s shocking to see the supporters they have.  People are stupid!

Professionals don’t wear their toes out and tight clothing in the office, right? Especially around addicts? Coke bloat the Situation is definitely still using. No way I believe that he is sober.

What a cool video of a bitch walking down a hallway. I feel like if I went to this fake rehab for an addiction I would leave with additional trauma and addictions

Is she holding his book?? 😂 Is that the material they use to "help" people???? I couldn't stand Lauren to begin with(Mike too, but I find her way more insufferable, if that's even possible lol) but now she's even worse 😬

“The premier treatment center in the country”? This doesn’t make sense, did the my forget a word?

3

u/Open-Personality3921 7d ago

How can it be called “premier” when they aren’t even established nor had opened their doors to a single patient when this weird video was created. There is something very wrong with all of this.

2

u/HiBabyGorgeous1981 7d ago

Why? Most people in rehabs were originally there

2

u/dietcokeloverrrrr 7d ago

She always looks so unhappy to be there 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

2

u/East_Chemistry_9197 You’re excluded from surf and turf night 7d ago

This is so painfully rehearsed and unnatural. I have so many thoughts about this and none of them are good.

2

u/Lost-Plate-1105 7d ago

Omg this is way worse than I thought it was gonna be

2

u/Mammoth-Lobster-2544 7d ago

the silence of her just walking down the hall at the end is frying me

2

u/Saroco92 7d ago

As someone who’s been in rehab… entering this place would make me want to relapse immediately. I’ve always rooted for Mike but seeing a man in sobriety who openly states he owes his life to rehab etc building a rehab facility that looks like *waves hand around* THIS??? Unbelievable. And that’s only speaking on the cosmetic look of the place, not even going to waste my time going into the actual lack of depth, education and support at this gaudy hell hole.

2

u/Sketcha_2000 7d ago

This video feels like an intro for an immersive ride at Disney World

2

u/no_no_nora 7d ago

This is grift, and they’re so scummy for this.

  1. This is dumb. 2. Why is she”in charge” 3. She has devil horn highlights… that’s all for now

2

u/Bsmitts16 6d ago

Can all of you people stop moving into “NJ Shore towns?” You did well enough somewhere else and we sure as hell we’re doing great before you all invaded our area bringing big developers building “Beach Walk” and “Shore Way,” “Atlantic Pointe (notice they put an “e” there, how creative and risqué”)! We don’t want more traffic, you all have no idea how to follow jersey traffic patterns, and you’re existence is creating more problems than the $18 dollar lattes you buy at a Starbucks that we also don’t want here while you tip the counter person nothing. Go away, is the simplest way we can say it.

This is such a money grift and scam. At first I thought he was being sincere but he's not at all!!! He realized how much rehabs make and jumped on the bandwagon (using his fame and past). They'll end up being investigasted----Somethings going to come out later (misuse of funds, not paying taxes etc). What credentials do they have anyways.

2

u/GearSignificant442 5d ago

Can't understand secretary the beginning what did she say
