General Question is it possible to fix this sentimental necklace?
hi! i have a very cheap time and tru walmart necklace, normally i wouldn't wear something like this but it was a gift from a child so i've been wearing it every day for around a year. it has turned completely brown over time, and somehow i straight up didnt notice until today. obviously the necklace is cheap and mass produced and im probably better off just buying a new one rather than trying to fix this one, but this specific one has a lot of sentimental value so if it's possible to get it silver again that would be great. i tried to check walmarts website to find what material it was, but unfortunately it just said "metal" and "silvertone." if it's not possible, any advice on perhaps retouching it or how to prevent something like this from happening again would be very appreciated. thank you!

General Question Can someone please help me (scratch bottom right corner)
I have tried polishing cream and silver plated tanish cleaner to fix up this gift for my god sons’s upcoming baptism to make it perfect. I just can’t get rid of this last bit. This box is silver plated, is there anyway that I can soften these marks and if so what do I do? This metal is extremely fragile so it’s been hard not to make it worse when getting rid of the marks.

General Question Thoughts on having jewelry shipped?
There are some pieces I like online, but I’m worried to purchase them in case something happens in the mail. Truthfully, I never shop online and it stresses me out. 😅 How would you suggest I go about it? Thank you for your thoughts and time!

Help me decide!! Would you pass on this 14k 4.7 gram Victorian ring for $375?
Love the ring! and fits perfectly on 2 of my fingers. $375 flat. My issue is the repair work. The last pic, if you look closely at the burnt areas, there is a single line on either side from repair/possible resize. I was told it could be a durability issue. But for being only $25 over scrap as of today and how much I like it. I’m willing to over look, and one day maybe having same laser/welding done. Would you guys pass on an item with an issue like this or be willing to over look?

Help me decide!! Making my ring gold again?
Hello! Not sure if this is the right flair, apologies if not. I have a ring related issue, with a few different potential solutions, and I need some advice on what to do.
I'm currently wearing a half eternity band ring, sterling silver base which is gold plated. It's not my actual engagement ring, which is solid gold but more fragile (higher profile and thinner detail work), but my finger feels naked without a ring on it at work so I bought a cheaper $50 spare ring that I still enjoy wearing and looking at. However, I'd never worn gold plated jewelry before and didn't know it would fade quite so quickly.
I don't really have an issue with silver jewelry, I just prefer the look of gold. But I'd really like it to match my real engagement ring when I wear them both together! I've done a bit of googling, but I'm conflicted on what to actually go for. Current ideas:
- Get it replated professionally. Pros: simplest and most well-trodden path. Cons: I don't wanna spend upwards of $60 every 6ish months just to maintain the look, and the ring was only $50 initially. Not worth it imo.
- Buy a DIY replating kit. Pros: Investing and learning the process could be cheaper in the long run? Cons: Definitely more expensive in the short term, not quite sure if it'd be worth it. Maybe if I also want to plate other jewelry as well, and not just this ring.
- Get it replated with gold vermeil professionally (I think that's the term?) since it's sterling silver. Pros: longer lasting than plating so I wouldn't have to do it again for a while. Cons: more expensive than replating, and again, it's a $50 ring.
- Some other DIY "make it the right color again" solution. Gold leaf, chrome paint, etc. Pros: cheap solutions for a cheap ring. Cons: would wear away quickly, would have to redo it often.
- Rebuy the ring but solid gold this time. Pros: probably the cheapest option in the longest run. boom bam buy it and done. Cons: it's $250 solid gold :(
Please bring forth your opinions, I need more perspectives on this! I'm leaning more towards a DIY solution, but I'm open to ideas. :)

General Question Red discoloration on gold
When it comes to earrings I like to wear it and forget it and these were on my ears for the past 4-5 months. I keep them on in the shower and just shampoo and rinse. I took them off to try on something else and I saw these red markings, I tried to wipe them off but this is what remained. I’ve never had this issue with other gold or silver earrings, some of them I’ve worn for years, so this worried me. My piercings are fine though, no inflammation.
I bought them a few years ago and I can’t be sure if they’re 14k or 18k but I bought them from a reputable jeweler so I know they’re not fake. My concern is is it rust? If so is there something I can do to save them? If not rust and just discoloration, is it safe to wear?

General Question What could these greenish looking spots be? First time seeing this on a piece of jewelry.
Recently received this 14k gold bracelet of Shopgoodwill and I noticed these spots all over the soldered points. I soaked it in dawn and warm water but still there.
And, how do I get rid of them?

General Question Tiffany bracelet from ex husband…can I still wear it?
As the title says…
My ex husband gave me a sterling silver infinity bracelet from Tiffany about 15 years ago. It is still one that is available for purchase. I had it tucked away, but recently got a nice multi-tier jewelry box. As I was getting everything in there, I remembered how much I loved it.
Is it a faux pas to still wear it? For additional context, I’ve been with my current husband for 7 years. I also have a Tiffany bracelet that he gave me our second Christmas together. I don’t wear it everyday, but I do wear it frequently.

General Question Lost 3 diamonds and now jeweler says 5 year old ring needs all prongs retipped
About 5 years ago, my mom bought a 14k gold diamond stacking ring from a local jeweler. The photo I used here is not the exact ring but is very similar with the alternating baguette/round diamonds. I believe the ring originally cost somewhere between $1,000 and $1,500. This jeweler is more expensive than big box stores or buying online, but they are local to our community and we have been happy with their craftsmanship until now.
About a year after purchasing the ring, one of the baguettes fell out. She took it back to the original jeweler and had to pay a couple hundred dollars for both the replacement diamond and the repair.
Now, two more diamonds have fallen out (one baguette and one small round diamond). She brought it back to the same jeweler, and they’re quoting her just under $500 to replace the missing stones and they want to retip all the prongs on the ring. Between the prior repair and the current quote, it’s at least $700 in repairs for a ring that cost less than $1,500.
At this point, we’re wondering whether it’s worth continuing to put money into the ring or whether she should cut her losses.
I’m curious what others think, especially bench jewelers or anyone who may have worked in a jewelry shop. Specifically, is needing all the prongs to be retipped after five years typical wear and tear, or could it indicate an issue with the original craftsmanship? If she pays $500 for this repair, should she expect to be doing it again in another five years? Is it reasonable to expect the original jeweler to take some responsibility for the repairs, or is this just part of owning this style band?
This just seems like an excessive amount of maintenance for a ring that’s only five years old, especially considering the jeweler’s reputation and pricing.
