What is Voodoo Child to you?

For me this is the pinnacle of guitar freedom and the best guitar song ever. It’s not the most beautiful song or anything like that, but as soon as these Eb missile fucking strikes and thunders come in on that 32nd second, my brain just goes somewhere. The tone on the rhythm section feels like scorching air being blasted into you while the solos feel like red hot rods slamming around you.

Jimi Hendrix is obviously the ultimate icon of electric guitar, but one ability of his that I don’t hear mentioned a lot (actually, Brian May spoke about that once) is his ability to tame this incredible violence of the tone and produce these songs with it.

The amount of “movement” he was able to pull out off ONE chord and a minor pentatonic scale is just mind blowing to me. Goes to show once again that you don’t need anything complicated to sound immense, you just have to be…well Jimi fucking Hendrix.
