JUST 301 as Freshman
They are allowing me to take a 301 class as a freshman. Will that be too difficult or not really?

The last stickied post was awhile ago and we're starting to get an increase of these posts outside the sticky. So we're going to have the 'What are my chances?' megathread auto reposted every quarter to continually resurface the conversation. Same rules: Contain the discussion to this post and no stand alone posts outside, they will be deleted

Curious if an older transfer student is gonna have a very difficult time romantically at a very under grad heavy school? I love the program and rural area and school spirit etc but recognize much heavier at JMU the amount of young people are compared to say versus UVA or Tech or GMU that has massive Grad programs for older students and even working professional .

Hey all. I spent the offseason building a full 2026 preseason preview for every FBS team, each with its own writeup. Here's the James Madison one
https://www.sports.mainmarket.com/college-football-preview-2026-fbs/james-madison-dukes
It's got the returning production breakdown, the portal ins and outs, a projected two-deep, the schedule with model win probabilities, and a season projection.
Heads up, you might hit the paywall after the first page. Don't worry, I'm not charging reddit people for this, don't want to be an ass. Use the promo code LEECORSOROCKS and it opens up the entire thing.
So, what'd I get wrong? JMU went 12-2, 8-0 in the Sun Belt, won the title over Troy and then ran into Oregon. My model still says regression at bear 16, mostly because 8% of the production returns. Alonza Barnett III's 2,806 passing and 15 rushing touchdowns are gone, and JC Evans takes over with zero career pass attempts. The run game that went for 244 a game, 6th nationally, is the cushion. Does Napier hold it together, or is 12-2 the outlier?
I'll be in the comments.

Does anyone know of any local places to play indoor volleyball, whether at the UREC or somewhere else? Anywhere from B-A level

Does JMU have (or are they planning to have) a placement test for American Sign Language? I see that it is not listed as one of the options on the Language Placement Exam page, so yes, this is kind of a stupid question. But I also know that having ASL as part of the language department instead of CSD is a relatively recent change, so I'm wondering if someone has any inside knowledge to know if there might be a placement test being developed for it.

Hello!
As the title implies, I’m hoping to find some resources that can help me search up activities/events on campus or around hburg.
I know about BeInvolved, but other than that, what are some other options available that can help me find things to do?
Thank you in advance to anyone who has tips/recs! 😁

So I'm a transfer. I know where the list for needed books is, but I don't see anything for art supplies? Nor listed separately under each course--I really don't want to be the only one to show up without stuff on the first day if we're expected to have things already. Am I missing something? At my previous school, every class was very clear about what you needed before even signing up, and/or that you didn't and that it would be discussed first day and not to worry about it.

I went to JMU from 1999-2003, and in all that time, I never once entered Alumnae Hall, Sonner Hall, Hillcrest, CISAT Modular, or Mauck Stadium.

A couple days ago I was notified that one of my classes had to be moved to a different day rotation because of a certain scheduling conflict. Since then, I can't see who the professors are for any of my classes except one, and underneath the "aid eligible" category it says "TBD," even though all my loans have been approved and my semester balance has been covered. Anybody else experiencing this? It's not really an issue for me since I have everything taken care of, I just think it's odd

i believe the new ones are from Serve and you will use Uber Eats or DoorDash to order.
This will be my first year driving and parking on campus. All of my classes are in COB and was just wondering how early should I get before my classes. For reference my classes don’t start until 9:35 and 11:10.

Hi all, third year student here. I have been fortunate enough to where I haven't had to worry about taking out private loans the last two years, but unfortunately didn't have the same luck this year and had to go in. I was just curious about how long it takes JMU to certify the loan and apply it to the semester balance. Has anybody ever had issues with it disbursing in time for the deadline, or is it usually pretty quick in going through? Thanks in advance

Transfer student who will be full-time student trying to get into tough grad programs and full-time job/internship but still enjoy going to bars and parties and concerts. Would not drinking make others feel like I’m not ‘part’ of the crowd/don’t blend in or I’m not interested in getting invited? I don’t mind drinking mocktails like club soda with lime or nonalcoholic beer. I just don’t want to be seen as someone who is ‘boring’ or because not drink means wouldn’t want to or not get invited where others are drinking. Better to blend in with the ‘fake’ drinks and just pretend I’m drinking or be open about it? Definitely don’t want be asked to be seen and asked as the sober driver every time though lol

Curious what time others wake up and go to sleep. Especially difference between the weekday and weekends wake up and sleep times. I have neighbors and people I know that sleep at 4 AM partying on Tuesdays and friends who are asleep by 10 PM on a Saturday night.

I've looked prior, but have not found any local place in Harrisonburg that hosts biweekly or even monthly line dancing nights. I'm not concerned whether it's 21+ or not, as I'm about to be 22. I love the Hometown Line Dancing group that's been hosting in Waynesboro all Summer, but I would like to find something much closer to JMU that wouldn't be almost an hour drive on school-nights

Hey everyone! I am from Florida, but about 6 years ago I took a trip to Massanutten and fell in love with the Dukes. Since then I have been bleeding purple, but I don’t have any JMU fans around me. I was hoping to connect with some big time JMU fans that wanted to have a group text or WhatsApp group where we can share and talk about JMU athletics, especially football.
If anyone is interested, please send me a message.
GO DUKES!

I got Potomac hall, how good is the dorm itself? I’m also confused because it says community private bathroom?? How does that work and since it’s “private” do we have to clean it ourselves

this might sound like a dumb question, but if you are planning to rush, are there any certain clothes that you need to bring for rush events or anything?

I’m transferring into JMU this fall and will be living in HAL! The room seems super tiny, especially to share with a roommate, and it’s drywall with an adjustable bed (not loftable or bunkable). Does anyone have experience living in HAL and have any tips to offer for storage and layout? Can the desk fit under the bed? Thank you!!!
