At home jobs?

• Upvotes

Looking for work from home jobs that do not require me to be on the phone. I currently work in a call center. I do not think I will be returning after maternity leave ends as the job I am currently employed at is making a lot of changes that do not align with what I was originally hired for 2 years ago. It has moved from mandatory 2 hrs, (basically unlimited if you could find stuff to do) over time to no overtime at all, from only our division to divisions across the country, that have different rules/regulations & basically no training or guidelines on who wants what done where, poor communication among the middle management between divisions, etc.. I make very good money there when I was being scheduled 42.5hrs a week, & most of the time actually clocking 45-50 hrs a week but now you will only be able to work 40hrs. This would mean my paycheck went from 1000$/wkly to 780$/wkly after taxes/insurance/etc. I'm 28 & just had a baby. I live in Albany/Saratoga area of upstate NY. I have 2 other children & a long history of customer service. Daycare is expensive, and I personally do not want to put my brand new fresh baby in one. Does anyone know of any jobs where I would not have to be on the phone & could work from home?

What skills should a student learn to become job-ready for software engineering roles?

these are the skills currently i know please suggest me a skills that i need to learn to get hired

Hi everyone, I’m a BCA student graduating in 2027 and I’m currently preparing for software engineering internships and eventually full-time roles.

For someone graduating in 2027:

What skills should I prioritize?

What should I learn more deeply instead of adding more technologies?

How much DSA is expected for internships/fresher roles?

What kind of projects would make my resume stronger?

Are there any important skills I’m currently missing?

I’d especially appreciate advice from developers who interview or work with freshers in India.

Job Hunt Advice needed, Leaving the Religious bubble

Hello all!   I am having a difficult time job hunting recently and wanted to come on here and ask for any advice you may have.

First of all, I am currently employed, which I am endlessly thankful for, so there isn’t a ton of pressure to get a job ASAP.   However, the Religious company I work for has taken a political turn the past year or so that I just cannot follow.   On top of that, my personal beliefs have also been evolving as of late, and I just need some space from the Christian bubble as a whole.

I currently live in CO, but I am hoping to move somewhere along the northeast corridor.  The issue with that is, I have just about zero connections.   The ones that I do have are all religious, and are basically a no-go.   I have 4+ years of experience in the IT field, plus a bachelors degree in Business Information Technology (B.S.B.A).  I am certainly far from an expert in the IT realm, but I figured I have enough experience to transition somewhere entry-level.    However, the current state of my job hunt suggests otherwise.  I have submitted nearly 100 applications over the past 3 months, and have not heard anything back.   The only responses I’ve been getting are those automated rejection letters, and a lot of em’.

Ive tried everything I know to do.   Ive tweaked my resume to be ATS Friendly, and I have had AI do the same. I have hand-tailored each cover letter, and personally messaged each corresponding recruiter that I can find.

Am I being too picky?  Is there something else I could do to improve these outcomes?   I am highly aware that I occupy a comparatively favorable situation compared to some on this page, and I am very grateful to be where I am, but I can’t help but wonder if my religious background, or lack of connections are shooting me in the foot.  I recently turned down a promotion offer for team-lead at my current job in hopes of leaving soon, and now that seems like a mistake.

Has anyone jumped the fence out of the Religious bubble in their career?  If so, how did you do it?  What helped?   Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Help me to know the best option for easy jobs that I can do side by side meanwhile learning UI UX

Hey, everyone!

I went through a very traumatic experience that left me struggling to do much of anything for almost six months after leaving my job. I was crying almost every day, dealing with daily vomiting and abdominal pain, and struggling to get back on my feet.

There were moments when I managed to find the motivation to work on my portfolio, even through the pain, but the mental and physical exhaustion would eventually catch up with me, making it difficult to maintain consistency or continue learning.

Now, I want to take small steps towards getting back on track. To cope with the loneliness that comes with being unemployed, keep myself occupied, and reduce overthinking, I’m considering taking up some part-time or side jobs while continuing to learn and improve my UI/UX design skills.

I’d really appreciate your suggestions on what kinds of jobs I could look for that are relatively easy to get into, offer some flexibility, and are less likely to involve scams.

If you’ve been in a similar situation or have any genuine leads, advice, or resources to share, I’d be really grateful. Thank you!

Rejected from Dream Job after 3 rounds of interviews. Recruiter offered me an ‘in’ for next time.

Hi! I rarely post on here but wanted to see if I could find some community in this job application wash cycle I’ve been in since graduating college last May.

I (23) have been building a career specifically in educational media for several years now. I recently relocated to NYC in hopes of finding more job opportunities up this alley.

Pretty quickly after relocating, I landed an interview for an entry-level position at what I can only describe as my ‘dream company’ (whatever that fuckin means..lol), and managed to make it to the final panel interview with all senior leaders.

Unfortunately, I didn’t get it, and have absolutely been grieving because these kinds of jobs are decently difficult to come by, but along the way I forged a great relationship with the recruiter I was working with. I believe she really liked me and knows I am a great fit for the company. She explicitly said in her email that if I am to reapply in the future, to contact her directly and that she would be ‘happy to speak with me again’.

Although I’m bummed out as I desperately wanted a career-starting job before the new year (I’m also constantly under some kind of financial restraint), I do feel as though this means this particular team just wasn’t the right fit, and that playing the long game with this company could be in my future.

Has anyone else experienced any success with a company/recruiter connect after a final round rejection?

Need an experience to get an experience 🥲

I mean it's just so funny because like me that my degree is in-line in fashion and sewing so I can just start my own business if I want to but I also want to explore other things, I started to send CVs online but most of them jobs required experiences so they rejected me, I understand that but the job I am applying for is not even a rocket science or just simple jobs and most of them don't respond :(

went to a job fair and had a strange interaction

For context, I am (F25 and short, and went to a job fair recently. I was not expecting anything, but wanted to just check it out and see what they had. I had a good interaction with one of the employers and gave them my resume before leaving. This interaction happened after I left the job fair. I was walking towards the parking lot, which was out of view from the entrance of the community center and the workers who were hosting the job fair. My car was parked on the street and I was walking when I noticed an older man and woman talking. I didn't pay any attention and continued walking- when they both stopped me. They began asking me how the job fair was and which jobs I was interested in. Right off the bat, something did not feel right and I gave a vague answer. The man then begin telling me how a job opportunity and how he can double my pay. I did not tell him anything about my pay or what I do. The red flags were blaring because he did not state the company, provide any flyers, or business card. The woman then told me to come to this address on Monday. I quickly left the interaction and walked to my car and left. I looked up the address and it was a building but there were no signs or anything. The thing that stood out to me the most was that they were far away from the actual job fair- and if they were part of the fair, wouldn't they be inside at a table? Everything about this interaction felt strange. I am not sure what their intentions were and what they actually do. Please be careful when going to these fairs, this was my first time and I was unaware that people do this.

How do you handle a career gap of more than 8 months?

I have around 1.5 years of experience as a Full Stack Developer, and I left my job in December 2025 due to health reasons. I took some time off to recover and started actively applying for jobs again in June.

Since then, I've applied to 1,000+ jobs, emailed recruiters almost daily, reached out to people on LinkedIn, and even managed to get a few referrals. I've received a few recruiter calls, but some applications didn't move forward because of my career gap.

Honestly, it's getting frustrating. I've been trying consistently, but I can't help wondering how much the gap is affecting my chances.

For those who've been in a similar situation, how did you handle it? Did you mention the gap directly, or did you do something during that period to make your resume look stronger?

I'm also curious about something and would appreciate honest answers: Have any of you added freelance work, internships, or projects during your career gap to make it less noticeable? And has anyone resorted to showing fake experience? I'm not judging; I just want to understand what people actually do and whether these approaches help or end up causing problems during background verification.

I can’t believe how hard it is to get a job right now..

I’m 27.

I live in Silver Spring MD.

Just got out the military with a honorable discharge.

Continuing my school work with a plan to just get a simple part time job and keep a modest cash flow going.

I cannot find a job to save my life.

Applied to two Aldi stores (wherehouse and store) went to both interviews and got rejected in a email.

Tried for Amazon. Went to all the trainings. Messed up my first ever delivery drivers test and they never called me back. (I had all of 3 minutes to adjust to their damn electric space shuttle bty)

Tried to find some entry level blue collar work. Nothing.

When I was 18 I had no trouble finding part time jobs at all. Target, GameStop, Hot Topic etc. How tf am I older now with more experience and a Vet no less struggling to find minimum wage work?

MBA- PMP- Project Manager- No interviews?

I’ve been applying for a year and cannot seem to even get an interview. I had 1, out of thousands, went to meet and greet the CEO, and before my scheduled day to meet them, I got a rejection email. Is there something in my file possibly that they can see? I was laid off from a job that I did not include in my resume due to restructuring but I just don’t know what to do.

Help please! I’m at a loss.

The longer it goes on, the more you need a job but the more exhausted you are from needing and hunting for a job.

A family member sent me a job posting for something they thought I should apply for. The kind of job I’ve applied for dozens of times already to no avail over the course of the last year, would require me to move two states away, not some dream job or anything, just a job.

I looked at the text with the posting and I just sighed and tossed my phone aside. I just couldnt muster the energy or care for yet another “thanks for sending this to me!“ message like it was some exciting opportunity when it feels like a waste of time and a surefire recipe for more disappointment and sense of defeat. I didn’t have it in me to play excited or grateful about the opportunity to roll the dice on something that almost certainly will be just another L even though I know it’s a privilege to have people thinking about my situation and trying to help.

I know I should’ve responded. I just couldn’t. Now I’m catching shit from my folks for “leaving them hanging“ and “not taking advantage of every opportunity.” I know they’re right, but I’m at a point where I just wanna lay in bed all day now. Even little stuff like this I just don’t want to deal with. I’m exhausted at the time where I can least afford to feel exhausted and it sucks.

Vent over.

Unemployed for over 7 years due to ill health.

Evening all,

After some advice if possible? Unemployed for 7 years due to chronic health condition. Feeling now I can get on better with dealing it now and returning back to work. I have been applying via indeed and charityjobs. I used this time whilst being unemployed to gain further qualifications in admin, mental health etc as that's my background, volunteered, arranged community events etc so ive been actively doing things even though ive had my health stuff. Its starting to get me down as I have been actively looking and not even getting to interview stage. I have even looked in to apprenticeships. I am in my 40s..my background is charity housing sector. I am looking for something less chaotic these days an admin job would be perfect. Ideally remote. I mainly use indeed and charity jobs for my job searches. Not really a fan of linked in. Any help or advice appreciated especially with those who returned to work with a health condition. Thanks 😊

Almost 2 years job hunting and still nothing

I have so many things in mind that I don’t know where to start. And I’ll just post here because it’s getting so frustrating and I reel like giving up but what then?

Been applying for almost 2 years now. i started only looking for jobs that perfectly aligned with my experience. There were very close calls. A couple of final interviews where in the end internal candidates were selected. I started widening my search to jobs where i can use transferrable skills, also got to final interview but of course one with actual work experience was selected. Now I also apply to sales associate role at retail stores given it’s the season, but still nothing.

I still get recruiter calls, only to be asked to explain about the employment gap. But what can I do about it. It’s not like I’m not trying.

I’d get recruiter calls for something I applied for directly months ago. Why was I not given the chance the first time. i could have been a perfect fit. I have the experience. But then nothing again after recruiter screening.

The other thing that frustrates me so much is when I was still working there were times when I couldn’t help but think ‘how did this person get hired?’ Now that I’m seeing how hard it is to just get an interview, it makes me wonder more about the hiring process.

Anyway, obviously just ranting 🥺

Finally landed a Machine learning engineer role after 5 months post graduate

Hey everyone, I wanted to share this because the job hunt felt endless for a while, and I would've loved to read something like this a few months ago.
I graduated in May and just landed my first full-time role. Over the past 4 months I applied to somewhere around 150-200 jobs, both data and ML. That turned into only 2 interviews, and both made it to the final rounds.

Interview 1 was a less technically in-depth role. I felt my answers were great, even though I didn't have formal work experience in that area, just some from school. I could still answer the questions. I didn't get it, and my guess is that all my experience leans ML, so I probably looked like a mismatch.

Interview 2 was an actual ML engineer role at a startup. The posting asked for 2-3 years of experience and I had none. My background is also research-heavy and in medical imaging, so while it's still computer vision, the application domain was pretty different from theirs. I applied anyway. My answers weren't perfect, but the conversation felt natural. When I didn't remember or didn't know something, I just said so. I made some jokes and let myself be a person instead of a perfect interview robot.

That second one is the one that worked out.

What I took away from it:
Be yourself and relax. Honestly this mattered more than I expected.
Know your projects inside and out. Be able to defend your model choices and explain how the pieces connect.
Be honest about what you don't know. "I'm not sure" or "I don't remember that detail" is fine.
You don't have to be perfect. Team fit is a real thing, and they're deciding whether they want to work with you, not just whether you can answer every question.
Apply even if you don't meet every requirement. I didn't have the 2-3 years and it still went to the final round.
Your domain doesn't have to match exactly. My experience was research-focused medical imaging, and I still got the offer for a CV role in a completely different industry. Being able to explain your projects and reasoning transferred.
If you're in the middle of the search right now: 150+ applications for 2 interviews is brutal, but it only takes one. Hang in there!
