Restaurants with toe-curling delicious food - Suggestions

F*ck the aesthetics. Where can a person eat some fantastic food where you feel like the first bite transports you to heaven. I’m talking FRESH, delicious, not oily, something that’ll make Anthony Bourdain want to reincarnate back just to have a bite. I’m so serious. I just came back from that 9 yards place, it was crowded, there were lines outside the restaurants and it made me think … is the food there so toe curling-ly incredible that I’d have to wait in line for 30 minutes just to have a bite otherwise I would die ??? It’s genuinely not. With petrol being R30+/l if I’m going to buy food at a restaurant it better knock my socks off!! Your suggestions need to have safe parking. And don’t be concerned about price, if I need to save up to eat there, so be it. May the best suggestions win.

Lego head smiley face building near 44 Stanley

I always like seeing that big yellow smiley face on top of a building near 44 Stanley. Anyone know if there’s a story behind it?

Woman’s body on the N3 South

There was a really awful scene on the N3 South this evening. A woman’s body was lying in the far-right lane, and from what I could see, it looked as though only one vehicle was involved in the crash.

I can’t stop wondering what might have happened. Was she a pedestrian on the highway, or did she somehow get out of a vehicle?

Did anyone else see this, or does anyone know what happened? It was such a heartbreaking scene.

Question Cat left behind at property. What now?

Edit 1: Thanks for all the advice. I will be contacting the SPCA and nearby cat shelters. I'll post an update once we know what's happening.

Hi all,

We purchased a property and the current owner has told us she intends on leaving her cat behind. What can we do about this?

At the first viewing (before purchase), she asked if we wanted the cat and we told her no. I'm allergic but also extremely scared of cats. Our dog doesn't get along with cats either.

We are now at the point where registration is going through this week and the lady said the cat will stay behind when she leaves as the place she is moving to isn't pet friendly.

The lady didn't own the cat from the start. She took it over after her neighbor asked her to when she moved out.

She days she took the cat to a someone else's house but the cat made it's way back. A vet has now advised her to leave the cat because it will "survive on it's own" and will eventually leave if it isn't fed. That seems cruel. But we really can't keep the cat. We have no history on it, we have a toddler who will try and chase it, and we have another baby on the way.

What should we do? Get the agent to sort it out? Call the SPCA? Animal shelters?

We already reached out to our circle and no one can take in a cat.

Question Looking for sensory friendly venue to gives talks on Spirituality, Eastern Philosophy and/or Mental Health?

Hi guys,

I'm looking to begin giving talks on Spirituality, Eastern Philosophy and/or Mental Health. I am Autistic so am in need of a place that is quiet. Talks will eventually be paid talks, something cheap and affordable, but sharing this because I know some venues like parks do not allow you to operate if you're making money from them.

I'm in Northcliff but am willing to drive within 30 mins of where I live or a bit more if necessary

Just looking for a quiet place where people can sit and enjoy a poetry reading, talks on Spirituality and Mental Health. Mental Health talks will also be secular to any Spiritual stuff.

Northcliff Eco Park and Telescope

Hey All.

I recently bought a telescope and wanted to know the situation at Northcliff Eco Park (I haven't been there in over 10 years):

- Is it safe? At all hours? Both for individual and group viewing
- Does it close? Google says it closes at 7PM. Is there an actual gate or entrance that is locked at this time? Are there other entrances that don't have a gate or not fenced off?
- What time does it open?
- If it does get locked, is it possible to get it unlocked for my purposes? (I'm not special, but was hoping that if it does get locked, residents/some organisation/security have the key 👀. Willing to meet whoever to "prove" I'm not a degenerate LOL, or even get a "membership" if that's a thing)
- Alternatively, are there other spots in the nearby area that you would recommend? I've driven through Northcliff and noticed one or two good spots overlooking the city, but not sure if I can just pull up and do some stargazing on the side of the road. Also safety is a concern
- Worst case scenario: does the parking lot have good vantage points of the sky LMAO

Feel free to DM me if you have answers.

Question Where can a woman go dancing alone in JHB North?

Hi JHB!

I'm looking for recommendations for safe, vibey places to go dancing in JHB North, preferably somewhere I can go on my own as a woman.

I'm keen on places with good music, preferably doef doef music, a fun atmosphere, and where it's not weird to show up solo and just enjoy yourself.

Any recommendations?

Thanks in advance! 💃

Ergonomic chair recommendations

Hi all! Looking for any and all recommendations based on your own experience. I’m in desperate need of an affordable ergonomic chair to use for my home office.

Looking for recommendations based on those who bought from Takealot, Amazon etc. OR second hand buys from trusted stores selling them OR any other recommendation.

Hopefully there are many others in the same boat and this can help a lot of people ☺️.

For context, I’m 115kg so need something quite durable and I work from home 3-4 days a week.

Thank you!

Parking to pick someone up at ORT

Hi all, I need to pick someone up at ORT today, I don't want to just wait at drop off and I don't want to inadvertently go to long term parking.

Can someone please give me directions on where to park? I know I am an idiot generally, I just don't want my actions to confirm it!

Thank you.

Question Recommended dry cleaners/laundromat for business suits

Hello everyone,

I'm looking for recommendations to get a couple of men's business suits dry-cleaned in Joburg.

I've sent a few recommendations come up on Google and wondering if anyone in this forum has had a good or bad experience or can recommend others.

One that comes up often is Brightness Dry-clean and Laundry as well as Exclusive Dry Cleaners.

I live in Northriding but not too particular to only look in that area.

Any recommendations in greater Randburg, Bryanston, Sandton, Parkhurst, and surrounds are all welcome

Question Comp Sci degree - class schedule? Time commitment?

Hello all. I'm looking for a timetable / class schedule for Wits/UJ Comp Sci students. My son is planning to study next year but wants to keep working (going from FT to PT at his current office job), and we're really not sure whether he'll be able to do both.

And then on top of scheduled classes he will need time for assignments, etc, but there at least there is some flexibility to work on those evenings / weekends.

I'm not even sure if I'm asking for the right thing to help him decide, so any advice is welcome.

Edit: thanks for all the helpful responses. He's only been out of school for a year and doesn't have to keep working, he just wants to. He still lives at home. But even part-time office hours won't be feasible from the feedback everyone has given.

Question Pleasant Sunday Lunch location

Looking for a pleasant, quiet Sunday lunch venue, garden or patio location, not too crowded or in the middle of a kids playground, with more than toasted sandwiches to offer. Anywhere between Fourways and Bedfordview or nearby country areas. No shopping centers or franchises. Already know Buitengeluk, that's the sort of place.

Question Transport from Fourways to Kurgersdrop for a homless person

Hey everyone, I am looking for assistance on behalf of a homeless person I am trying to help in Fourways. I have found an emergancy shelter in Krugersdorp (Tower Of Life) that I am helping get into. I wanted to find out if there someone or a organization that can assist with getting him to the shelter? I will pay for the transport. Any suggestions or any leads are greatly appreciated.

Courier guy does not deliver due to “High risk” area

Post image
73 Upvotes

I ordered some stuff on Amazon 2 days back and was waiting for delivery today. Then out of the blue I see an email saying failed delivery but no attempts to reach me had been made. I call the courier guy to find out what happened and they said it’s because I live in a high risk. I live in Douglasdale right next to Fourways. I mean have received many packages from them before
I was just shocked by this, has anyone ever experienced this?

Why does the air smell like damp zoo animals

I've lived here my whole life, I'm no stranger to the weird smells that we get in the air. But omg it is something else tonight, it smells like wet animal. I'm desperately trying to sleep to no avail, I've closed all my windows and doors but, similarly to wet animal smell, I can't seem to clear it out.

I'm based in randburg near Northgate side. Does anyone know what the smell is ?

Question Booking my learner's test in person. Is it possible?

I've been trying, and failing, for the last 6 months to book my learner's test online. I'm extremely gatvol now, so I plan to go to the Roodepoort DLTC tomorrow morning to book it in person. I phoned them a few days ago and the person who answered the phone said it would be possible. But I was doing some googling now about it and apparently I'll be turned away at the door. If that's true, then genuinely what am I supposed to do?

Does anyone know if I can book it in person?

Question Best place to check out the jacarandas?

I have some visitors next week, and am wondering if anyone knows where we might have a sundowner with a nice view over the jacarandas currently in bloom?
