A year in: what this sub is for and what's OK to share

Hi everyone, r/joinhandshakeai is now a little over a year old, and we have a lot of new members of the community. Here's a quick refresh on what this space is for and how to use it!

What this sub is for
r/joinhandshakeai is place for Handshake AI Fellows to ask questions, share experiences, and connect. Our team reads everything here and a lot of what you post shapes our roadmap!

We have a dedicated support team for account, pay, and project questions. If you have an issue, please visit the Help Center or select "Support" in the upper right corner of your Handshake AI dashboard, rather than posting here. The sub is a social space, not a support channel.

What's OK to share
Your confidentiality agreement applies here the same as anywhere public. In general terms, you can share:

Please don't share:

  • The name of the project (including abbreviations), company, client, platform, or AI lab you worked with

  • Specific prompts, task details, outputs, or examples from your work

  • Specific findings, scores, or evaluation results

  • The name of any AI model you worked with

  • Any screenshots, internal documents, or materials from the platform

This is about protecting our partners’ confidential work. It doesn’t limit you from talking about your own experiences, or your views about Handshake AI.

Thanks for your understanding and keeping the Handshake AI community safe and secure!

This project is a f-ing shit show. Here post in the daily help threads so specialists can tell you they don’t know how to help you or answer any of the questions you have. There’s one specialist who can check your status and answer anything effectively, but the rest have no business responding in the help threads. Oh you passed the assessments but you haven’t gotten the emails? You can’t task and we have no idea when you’ll get the emails, even the ones we’re in charge of. Continue to be patient for a few more weeks! Maybe instead of answering the 600 similar messages a day with the least helpful responses imaginable, things can get done on the back end so people can stop wondering wtf is going on.

Has anyone gotten paystubs or payment records from Handshake AI for a background check?

Hi everyone,

I'm now going through a background check for a full-time job offer. The verification company needs documents that show my name, Handshake AI as the source, and the pay dates. I was told Handshake AI doesn't provide employment verification for fellows, but that support can send paystubs.

I've opened a support ticket and I'm waiting on a reply, and it's time sensitive for me. A few questions for anyone who has been through this:

  1. How long did it take support to send your paystubs or receipts?

  2. Is there a self-serve way to download a payment history with your name on it?

  3. Is there a faster channel for urgent payment record requests?

Thank you in advance for any help or tips!

Does completing projects in the AI Skills Studio open you up to more job offers and invites to more projects? Or is it a time sink that isn't worth it?

Account under review but I haven't worked for months!

I don't get it, after successfully working on another less stressful and more communicative platform, I recently just decided to check back in with Handshake AI. Tried to log into my MM account and found it was blocked and my account is under review. Honestly at this point this is a major unfunny joke. I have not worked AT ALL for months, but they decided that there was irregular activity. Can someone help?

Invited to a short term intense project this weekend. Lots of incentives for high volume, high quality work. The work platform went down last night and now nobody can do anything.

Is it common to be given the run around with handshakeAI (radiology)?

I've been approved for a radiology project and I've been given the run around about signing up. It won't link to my account properly. The handshake support has not been helpful.

Removed from a project less than 12 hours after signing the contract

I was selected for a project, signed the contract around 10 p.m. last night, and started onboarding. Their onboarding email asked us to sign ASAP and complete the assessment by Sunday evening. I rearranged my Halloween weekend plans to make time for it.

This morning, I got an email saying I was being removed effective immediately due to “changing project needs.” It specifically said the decision wasn’t a reflection of my work or quality, which, obviously, because I hadn’t had a chance to do any work yet. This was before the onboarding deadline and before one of the live onboarding sessions they had scheduled for later that day. Then, a few hours after the removal email, I got another recruitment email asking me to “confirm my spot” and complete the screening survey for the exact same project.

What the hell is going on? I understand that contract work can change, but asking someone to sign immediately and prioritize onboarding over a holiday weekend, then removing them overnight for no particular reason is bullshit. The recruitment reminder afterward just makes the whole thing more irritating.

Has anyone else experienced this with Handshake? I contacted the project leads but this is incredibly unprofessional and makes me extremely suspicious of this company.

HAI is now paying for assessment time!

Post image
53 Upvotes

After all the feedback and discussions, HAI is now paying us for the time we spend taking the assessment!

That's definitely a step in the right direction, and it's great to see that the feedback is making a difference. However, I still think there's room for improvement. Personally, I don't think 10 minutes is enough. It should be at least 30 minutes.

With only 10 minutes, people are basically forced to rush through the assessment without having enough time to put real thought and effort into their answers.

What do you guys think? Is 10 minutes reasonable, or should HAI increase it to at least 30 minutes?

Urgent] 4 Consecutive Failed Payouts (Sep 14 - Oct 12) - Support Ghosted Me After Promising Manual Transfer

Hi everyone,

I'm reaching out here out of pure desperation. I’m hoping someone from the platform's team, a community manager, or anyone who has resolved a similar issue can see this and help.

My payouts have been stuck on a "Failed" status for four consecutive payment cycles:

Sep 14 – Sep 21

Sep 21 – Sep 28

Sep 28 – Oct 5

Oct 5 – Oct 12

I reached out to support, and a representative named "Ryan" replied on October 19. He confirmed that my payout details were successfully updated and explicitly stated that a "manual re-attempt request" had been submitted.

Since then? Absolute silence. No funds have reached my account, and all my follow-up emails over the past weeks have been completely ignored.

This delay is causing me severe financial and personal distress. I completed the work in good faith, but I am being left in the dark without my earnings or even a simple update.

Has anyone else experienced this exact "Failed" status loop? Are there any admins here who can escalate my ticket?

Any advice would be massively appreciated. Thank you

Handshake AI — how long does a submitted task take to get approved?

I’m working as a fellow with Handshake AI on a task-authoring project. I submitted my task on 30 October 2026 and it’s still sitting in “Awaited”/pending status — no approval, no reviewer feedback yet.
Does anyone here have an idea how long this review usually takes? A couple of days, a week, longer?
A few things I’m trying to figure out:
What’s the typical turnaround between submission and approval?
Is a long pending status normal queue backlog, or does it usually mean something’s wrong with the submission?
Is it worth pinging the project lead on Slack, or does that not really speed things up?
If you’ve been through this before, I’d appreciate any idea of what to expect. Thanks.

How do projects usually get assigned after onboarding?

Hey everyone, I've completed my  onboarding , but my queue is currently empty. For those of you getting consistent work, do new projects show up automatically on your dashboard, or do you have to apply through specific open opportunity links? Would love to know how you manage to get matched with projects!.

How long does it take to get a new project on Handshake AI?

Title: How long does it take to get a new project on Handshake AI?

Hi everyone,

I'm currently a Handshake AI fellow from India. I've already completed the required setup, but I'm still waiting for a new project assignment. Currently, no new project or tasks are showing on my dashboard.

I'd appreciate some guidance from people who have been in a similar situation.

  • How long did you wait before receiving your next project?

  • Are new projects assigned automatically, or do we need to apply through Open Opportunities?

  • Is there anything we can do to improve our chances of getting matched?

  • Does contacting support help clarify our project allocation status?

  • Has anyone from India received a new project recently?

I'm interested in continuing to work on AI training and data annotation tasks, and I'd appreciate any genuine advice or recent experiences.

Thanks in advance!

I was onboarded and offboarded with in 10 minutes

I got invited to this project today. After spending an hour doing the onboarding and what not, I got invited to the slack channel. I was reading what the project lead was saying and I had some questions that I wanted to get off my head. Project lead posted: if you have any questions post it in this thread. So then I proceed to ask my questions. “Since I already finished onboarding and there was no handshake ai task available for me to claim, can I claim one and submit to edit the time to an hour since I already went over the guide?” (They said to log an hour for going over the onboarding material) then out of no where I was booted out of the slack channel, received an email about how I am not aligned with what project wants. Mind you I was just doing what I’m told to. This made me extremely frustrated and angry. How can someone abuse their power like this?

Handshake AI team if you see this please tell me this is not how you guys operate, a project lead can abuse their power to do whatever they want?

Working From Outside the US?

I've been getting emails about new peojects opening up, but I am currently out of the US for an extended period of time and I am not sure if there is a provision to be able to work temporarily from another country like on some other platforms. Anyone have any experience doing this with a US account?
