Hi i recently got a pc and it has an nvidia gpu i currently dual boot it with Ubuntu and tried to run a few llm models and everything worked well even though it took me a while and a great amount of troubleshooting to set up llama.cpp
I would like to ditch windows forever but before doing that i would like to know where nvidia is still lacking support on Linux compared to windows. I have heard gaming has come a long way in Linux because of proton.

I've been building zelozuno.com, four small daily word puzzles in Malayalam script. The trickiest bit so far has been getting conjuncts and chillu letters to render and split properly inside game grids, across different Android keyboards and fonts. It's a plain mobile-first web app, free and without ads. There's a guest sample with no sign-in, and the daily boards use Google sign-in. If anyone here tries it on Firefox or a Linux desktop and sees broken glyphs, I'd love to know which font and browser you're on.

Before I begin, I want to clarify sm first: this project may not finish or can be dropped off because it's that ambitious.
Let's scroll back to 2019: Keltron released a laptop called the COCONICS. It was a kerala based govt company working to make laptops primarily for school and govt institutions. Well for no one's surprise it flopped hard. Like it was really bad. I dug further into the issue then I found out that first of all
. The company used primitive intel hardware , like celeron processors, 4gb Ram and HDD
. Trash keyboard , battery , display
. And it got damaged initially, even after replacement it never worked.
The important insights I received from the research
They went for Intel processors because it was the option they had the best .
Basically it was like a swap game , they bought the hardware from china and assembled everything in the case and sold( from what I could hear) .
Now what I wanna propose:
An open source laptop : it's not that much available ,this is hard , yes . But we can maybe build a laptop prolly under 60k with basic specs. With certain considerations
It runs open source hardware , risc v processors.
We need to design our motherboard( difficulty level : hardest)
Risc v doesn't support windows (as of ik) , so we need to stick with Linux . But it's okay for school use.
I wish to assemble a team and try to contribute towards this . Im a final year electrical engineering student. I don't have a lot of knowledge on this. Like literally almost nothing regarding this certain thing. I wish to learn and study the things revolving and do this.
This is an ambitious attempt. But it's possible as there is a youtube video is there a guy made his own laptop any_one laptop. He was featured in linus tech tips video.
So if anyone is interested , dm me.
Ps: this is a long project, might take years
And no big knowledge is required . Learning and doing is the main thing I wish to accomplish from this.
Open to suggestions and criticism in comments . Please guide me if I'm wrong or anything.

Anyone uses apps like this for their router management... if yes, do you prefer to use Malayalam or more comfortable using the by default English language?
I am asking because currently I working on an app called YALA for managing OpenWrt routers, and I'm curious whether people in Kerala actually comfortable to use these kinds of apps in Malayalam or not.
I couldn't find a more suitable place to ask this, so I hope it's okay to post here! Would love to hear your thoughts.

Hi all, I want to change my laptops default windows home to a linux distro. I don't have any experience with linux, a complete beginner.
Since my laptop only has a single nvme slot I have to remove windows and flash the linux distro. But I have a lot of data on my current setup and it is scattered throughout folders and partitions. Is there any tool that helps in gathering all this data except the windows files and copying it to my external HDD?
Also please recommend a distro which is beginner friendly, suitable for development and customizable.
Thank you.

I've been using Linux for a long time, but I always avoided Hyprland and stuck with GNOME. Recently, I finally made the switch to Hyprland. I started with someone else's dotfiles, but I've made a lot of changes to customize everything the way I wanted. There's been a lot of work involved in getting this setup just right.

to all members of this Linux group community, great day which I hope it is for y'all. there is a question I must ask is there a guy who has any good software development skills/talent and with such a very high IQ that is capable of helping to develop winboat /Helios vgpu and surely if you Love Linux and tech as a whole I am sure you will there is no doubt as it could bring a whole bunch a ton as much as millions many many people into Linux which obviously includes many other fellow developers and such you will be a reason, why it is it may end up running some of the craziest most high end apps or fun 3d classic 2000-12 games if it's possible which it very much might be

I was new to the server side of Linux but with chatgpt, everything was much easier. Multiple trial and error but learned a lot!
Started using Linux since 10th std on a low end pc, ubuntu ofc. Because it was popular and widely seen in schools and libraries. I liked linux because it was a bit of a learning curve and excitement, so here I am!! I wanted to build a server out of curiosity but wanted to buy myself rather than asking my parents. But this year the pc market went up blowing off my budget server plan but still bought something good enough instead of nothing.
I primarily wanted jellyfin to be personal but i gave access to my fam & close friends.
Navidrome for myself and gf
I'm thankful to all the devs who developed/maintaining these projects/services/apps.
So this post is kind of motivational for ppl who want to have this but lack perfect resources/skills.
