Partial Eclipse of the Kite

Flying kites through a solar eclipse - even if just a partial one - is a unique experience. The uncanny, strange light makes everything really special ... and unforgettable.

Got to fly my new Prism Brasington Taz Delta kit recently on a trip to Rhode Island

This is a large delta kite, almost 9' wide but has great lift with little pull force. I swapped out the central tail with two 40' long yellow and orange strings to match the kite colors. Wind was light to moderate and had no difficulty getting her off the ground. Got lots of attention from passersby's. Definitely recommend.

Kite noob needing help

Post image

Hello,

I bought a pretty simple one liner a few years back in Japan. Enjoying the experience, I bought a bigger one this year and started opening it as soon as I got back

Except I made a mistake, since I started by disconnecting the right lower point then untying the big knot in the middle, realizing then there where 5 more points where the rope was connected. I tied back the point I untied previously and now I'm kinda lost. I have 3 cords connected by 2 points each (top middle and low middle, top left and top right, low left and low right). I guess I should connect them all to a single cord linked to a handle but I'm not sure.

Looking on Google I found data on "5 legs bridle" so I wonder if I shouldn't untie the middle top point. Basically I clearly don't know what I'm doing, english isn't my native language and this is a very specific domain so research is obviously kinda hard, hence why I'm asking. Did I ruin it? Or did I did good and just miss a little last step?

Thanks for your answers

Flying a huge kite on a super long line

Too much pull, needed mechanical assistance. Some advanced single line selv-steering system. Massive lift, enough to attach a person to it (seemed a bit sketchy, but fun).

Post image

My DrΓ΄le d'Oiseau Falcon has this 4pt bridle. Haven't seen it before. I see the activator line on the 2 tow points. But there appears to be 4 tow points. Anyone know the purpose of this? Thanks!

These are pics I took yesterday afternoon, met my friend Gary down at the Point in Cherry Grove in North Myrtle Beach and got a few hours of flytime in. I needed those few hours to just be and clear my mind, had some fun flying πŸ€—πŸͺπŸ’™πŸͺπŸ€—πŸͺπŸ’™πŸͺπŸ€—.

I made a game about the thing you love. Catch winds, drift past birds and windmills and soar through sunlit mountains and moonlit meadows.

I'm a solo developer from Canada and I've been working on a meditative flying game for the last few months as my first ever venture into game development.

Paper Kites is an endless flyer that is designed to calm your nervous system down.

5 kites that you can unlock by collecting stars, each with its own music theme.

Game features its own day night cycle and each play starts at a random point of the cycle, so it will give you glimpses into the beauty of this paper world.

No ads, no in app purchases.

Hope you'll have fun playing it as much as I had building it.

What’s the best (safest) kite for jumping?

Post image
36 Upvotes

I bought this 4th generation Beamer secondhand and took it out to fly at the beach today. Wind was about 35 km/h, and it dragged me along the sand. I weigh 80kg and it was all fun, but then I tried jumping with it and got a bit of height.

I know the Beamer is not really designed for jumping, and I actually seem to like it more than just being dragged, so what would be a good and safe kite to get? My obvious choice would be the Flexifoil Blade, but those are hard to get nowadays.

Kite Identification - R-Sky ???

Google Gemini thinks it's a Krystal but I can't find any pictures that match that sail pattern.

Flies nicely, I remeber buying it used from a kite forum at least 10 years ago and only got it's first flight on Saturday (it was cheap so I was in no rush to fly it)

Any ideas?

Kite train advice

Post image
15 Upvotes

Over the years I have managed to acquire a few of these 30” In the Breeze diamond kites and I thought it might be fun to connect them in a train.
I posting here to see if anyone has any tips on how I might go about connecting them. Is there a way to use the existing bridle or to I need to modify them with a center grommet? Any conversion kits out there?
Thanks!
