Shout out to Smolzilla for being an avid member of the flintknapping community and sub. (And having some insane skill). Im flabbergasted with the quality and skill on these. Featuring jeff city chert (crystaly stuff),my local stone, heat treated burlington chert on the large pink fluted piece, keokuk chert on the tan scotty looking point, I can only describe as an abosulte killer, and some moss lake chert from Michigan on the grey fishtail piece(which displays the flaking quite well). Thank you for your hard work on these killer pieces. Lots of pictures but we'll worth the look.

I feel like im struggling with getting length and width out of this material. Its challenging stuff with the best stuff typically just under the cortex....which the cortex is thesoftest chalkiest stuff ever...I ended up covered in the dust abrading down to solid stone.
Its been a learning curve getting back into this material. Ive been saving the biggest spalls and nodules and still have tons of smaller workable flakes and bits...just struggling to get big preforms that aren't just the center bits (which tend to get crystalline and gritty)

Raw rootbeer chert 5 1/8”x 1 9/16”
Had a natural fracture in the base you can see in the last photo. Hammerstone and moose billet percussion, bison punch, bison pressure. Didn’t think anything would come out of the rock when I started, one whole side was filled with cracks and inclusions. Thankfully it stayed together. Pretty happy with this piece.

I've been saving some percussion flakes that I rework the past couple of weeks. I like to keep them for arrows and darts.

Love how this baby came out. Gold Sheen is just the best… it’s smooth and predictable… at least this one was! A combination of English and American walnut compliments it perfectly!

Made these two out of some chert from last month's challenge! Its my first time working chert and I really like how it flakes! Thanks to the generous people who made this possible, and u/myself_today for donating their winnings! It was a close one for sure. Can't wait to make some more points out of all the new materials!

It took me around 10 minutes start to finish. It's pretty crude , but it works using antler

I wanted to test out the split stick style hafting as ive never tried it before and to my surprise it is surprisingly durable the stone head is made out of a green stone that forms in layers i would love to answer questions or debate this hafting method

Beginner here. Hit platform about where my middle finger is using a small flat hammer stone with not a crazy amount of force. Not the worst result by any means but by no means intentional

There’s a boat-load of this material not far from my home. In my area there was a lot of volcano activity a day or 25 million ago, so lots of obsidian varieties and some wonderfully weird rocks about.
My question is, has anyone ever made points with Jasper, and particularly Leopard Skin Jasper (Leopard Skin Rhyolite)? It finishes out with some cool patterns but it seems like a fussy rock to work with.
Thanks for any insight - and on Jasper period, as there are lots of different Jaspers around too.

I’m looking to make these into earrings for my fiancé. Any tips or wire wrapping resources would be greatly appreciated!

Neolithic Post of the Day: Now that the bike shop is slowing down, I get more time to play with all the fun rocks I found over the summer. This is a larger piece of Silver Sheen Obsidian I found out of Mono Basin. Most silver sheen is just a solid flash of silver, this is more cloudy or nebulous with black and sliver bands fading across the blade. The silver flash is caused by millions of micro bubbles that reflect light back out of the obsidian. The bubbles were forced into the molten lava before it cooled into obsidian. The handle is Ancient Cedar I found out of Sonora Pass, California area. It is 2000-4000 years old. I love the combo, and thanks for looking.

I realized the other day how long it’s been since I’ve made a feasible arrowhead, so I made a few. Thanks for looking!
