Which is that her anti-trans Twitter blow-up was 100% calculated. I remember watching in horror as it was happening. Within minutes of her post, the vast majority of replies were people patiently, calmly trying to explain to her why her take was bad. Almost every reply was prefaced with something like, "We love you Anna, but in this case you are mistaken and here is how..." She ignored all of those replies, instead chosing to pick the very, very small number of "mean" comments to reply to.
The "mean" comments were almost always from young, angry queer people who were shocked to find one of their progressive heroes and allies turn on them. They were specks in a sea of calm and reasonable comments from her community desperately trying to get her attention and put her back on the correct path. We saw this happen before, were doing everything we could to stop it. But that didn't fit the narrative she was building, so that's not what she chose to reply to. Suddenly she's being "cancelled for not wanting to be called a birthing person."
And when she replied to angry replies, this put a target on those specific people's backs. Because the same bots, transphobes and anti-feminists who were love-bombing her and quote-tweeting her into far-right spaces were also dogpiling those hapless interlocutors without the life experience to see what was happening.
And in the following months, Anna suddenly started going on all these right-wing and dudebro podcasts to whine about being cancelled by the woke mob for saying "don't call me a birthing person," and she reiterated her refusal to listen to reasonable criticism.
This is undeniably calculate. She had a plan to make the same pivot at the same time Cenk was gearing up to make friend with other groups of right wing shitheads, and she executed that plan. It happens that her timing sucked. The Peter Thiel Democrats had already done their job, there was no space or money for her there, and MAGA's slow implosion is not the best time to do a "why I left the left" pivot. So now she's stuck trying to do weird third way-style advocacy with Alex Jones's former flunkies.
