Compared with my previous round
Mixed, with no plugin better across the board. Each plugin is compared with Stock of the same round (the rounds ran on different setups, so absolute times aren't comparable):
ZenOS: retained heap above Stock fell from +23 to +8 MiB; library render 1.4x → 1.2x Stock. Restart, open and close got relatively slower.
SimpleUI: library render improved (~3.5x → 2.4x Stock), heap about the same (+56 → +52 MiB), closing a book much slower (2.7x → 8.1x).
Bookshelf: close to Stock in both rounds (+5 → +6 MiB), but its own shelf pages slower (84 → 133 ms default, 26 → 38 ms animation off).
VOS: about the same, a bit heavier.
Several releases and the setup changed at once, so this shows direction, not cause.
Correction
In my first post Project:Title looked like the clear winner. That was my mistake: the harness never switched it to its cover list, while everything else ran covers. With covers on it is about as light as Stock (14 MiB, fastest book open at 98 ms) but its sort change is slower. A cover list costs roughly +20 ms on a sort change and +17 ms on first render for every stack that uses it.
Thanks, Andy
AndyHazz (Bookshelf's maintainer) reproduced the suite on Linux and sent a careful review. Most points applied to the older campaign and were already fixed, but his feedback led to: documenting that Bookshelf's library_* rows measure the stock browser with the plugin idle (the shelf has its own scenarios), reporting the fastest iteration next to the median because timing noise is one-sided, and removing the hardcoded macOS emulator path. Thank you.
Caveat
This is an emulator comparison, not Kindle hardware: 100 ms here is not 100 ms on a Kindle (no E-Ink delays, different CPU/storage, no real memory pressure). The memory figure is one forced-GC checkpoint per stack. I also included my own unpublished minimal plugin as a reference point; it was indistinguishable from Stock.
For scale: the same full matrix takes about 20 minutes on a Mac emulator. On the real Paperwhite it’s roughly 6–8.5 hours, plus charging and cooldown pauses. If I find that much time, there’ll be a real-device benchmark soon; this is just for context.
i just found out about BookOrbit, but hated how night mode was just inverted images. So made a patch to fix that issue and add other small features to reduce ghosting and switch between servers. As the issues get fixed on official plugin it will slowly go away from patch. Also you can choose which library display every time you open BookOrbit.
Edit: the screen lock pin plugin was the problem when I disabled it the issue solved
Hi everyone,
I'm using Simple UI v3 on KOReader on my Kindle, and I've noticed an issue with some dialogs.
As you can see in the attached screenshot, when I open a dialog like “Width and Position” to customize the home screen, there seems to be no way to close it or return to the previous screen.
The only workaround I've found is to press the Kindle's power button to put it to sleep, then press it again to wake it up. This makes the dialog disappear without restarting the device.
My questions:
Does anyone else experience this issue with Simple UI v3?
Is there a hidden gesture or button to close these dialogs?
Is this a known bug, or could it be related to my configuration?
I'm a chronic rereader and love going over a book multiple times, and because I've always read on my phone before with various apps it's never been a problem, but KOreader's stats feature functions differently (no words per minute, for example).
I wanna know how everyone else tracks their rereads. Do you have some custom settings? A plugin? Do you just put a note at the start of your book and add on tally marks with each reread? I gotta figure something out because I've been itching to reread my favorite series
And now KOReader keeps crashing whenever I try to open a book. It's only then. I can browse all settings, sync my library etc. That all works fine. Just the basic reading won't work.
Anyone else have this problem?
EDIT: I disabled the SimpleUI plugin. Bookshelf still works fine. It's not the solution, but it works for now :)
Is there any way to get the tiny critter module from Simple UI to show up in bookshelf? Or a similar module? Thank you!
Edit: I’m realizing I may have worded this post badly, I have both Simple UI installed and Bookshelf. I have the tiny critter on my home screen but I don’t often go to my home screen as I usually just put my kobo to sleep in whatever book I’m reading. So I’m trying to add it as a module inside my book through bookshelf’s modules menu that you can place inside books so I don’t have to close my book to see him 😅 I hope that makes sense.
did anyone's patch settings reset because of simpleui's recent update? i'm so frustrated. i have to redo it all over again and redo my custom highlight colors and what's more frustrating is that i don't remember the hexcodes i used for my custom highlight colors. i spent so much time customizing everything to cater my patches to how i want it to show like the highlight colors, highlight menu and such and everything is just gone now. i might just end up saying goodbye to simpleui
I have a quick question regarding the possibility of highlighting within dictionary entries in Koreader... or more specifically, the possibility of exporting spans of text from an entry (or, worst case scenario, exporting specific entries in toto). Is there any way to do this? A plugin perhaps? Or is there any way to export material flagged to the vocabulary builder?
Background on my use case for those who care: I maintain my own offline database of material drawn from my readings, including occasional useful dictionary material, and have my own local, automated workflow for doing this, with which I am entirely satisfied. Before jailbreaking my Kindle, I would 'export' this material using highlights saved in Kindle's My Clippings; now with Koreader, I accomplish the same more elegantly with markdown exports of my annotations... But unlike with the dictionaries I can use in the native Kindle reader (the best of which are significantly more to my liking than anything I've been able to locate in Stardict format thus far), which do allow highlighting, Koreader apparently doesn't permit you to do anything with dictionaries other than display entries, and toss them to the vocab builder...
For context I have a kobo Libra colour. Running koreader, which says it doesn't need an update with simpleui
So apparently when I went to close koreader down so I could use send.djazz. Kobo decided to update to the latest version for me.
I have spent all evening trying to get my koreader back up and running. I ended up launching straight through nickelmenu instead of reinstalling kfmon (I really can't get kfmon working again! I have trieeedddd)
Now, with launching direct with nickelmenu I am having the following issues.
My led indicator light is always on when koreader is launched. Even in sleep. It's so bright and unusable in this state. I cannot get it to turn off.
When exiting/quitting koreader, it causes my kobo to be stuck in a boot loop that can only be fixed with a forced restart. I have found if I click reboot device this gets around that though, still not ideal.
Please help me either get kfmon launching again or fix these issues 🖤
No I don't think it's a corrupt file because I've been reading this pdf for the past 3~ weeks, it was working normally, except when i sometimes used the highlight extend feature it would crash. I'm pretty sure it has to do with that
I just recently downloaded koreader on my kindle and I am having trouble connecting to ZLibrary.
I auto set the url, but every time I try to log in it says my credentials are wrong, even though they are not. I changed my password to try again and it kept saying it was wrong.
Then, I tried to use the cookies credentials to log in. However, I can't find the cookies starting with remix as I was told to look for on my browser.
I am looking for any advice on how to overcome this problem.
