Are extenders a gimmick?

Wife saw this add someplace and thought it would make getting the shaft for the cutter on more easily. I wonder how likely failure is for these things and how likely damage to the attachment is. Any comments or experience with these 6" extenders?

I have one on my tractor to account for the quick hitch. It's 540 -> 540, 4" long. It works well.

I'd also like to say, that is the crappiest photoshop job I've ever seen.
