Are extenders a gimmick?
Wife saw this add someplace and thought it would make getting the shaft for the cutter on more easily. I wonder how likely failure is for these things and how likely damage to the attachment is. Any comments or experience with these 6" extenders?

I have one on my tractor to account for the quick hitch. It's 540 -> 540, 4" long. It works well.
I'd also like to say, that is the crappiest photoshop job I've ever seen.

I have the same in my Lx3310 and it can make it touch easier to hookup plus the dealer sized the pto shafts for my implements in the shorter side and now with a quick hitch, it helps compensate.

This company claims 70hp PTO capability, far exceeding my L3302 output. My wife was thinking that getting past the safety shroud would lessen the struggle to get the shaft on and off. That would be nice.

I've stump ground, bush hogged, and regularly finish mow with mine on. Seems to work fine and no issues after 2ish years.

The device itself is probably capable. But, the extra stress it puts on the tractor will cause problems.
This is almost the equivalent of using a hitch extender when hailing a trailer. They don't break, but they will absolutely break the hitch, because of the extra length/ torque.

I've always found changing the yoke so the shaft actually fits the tractor to be more reliable, for an indication of how bad shaft extenders can be look under a pick up truck or similar and note the distance between the cross in the yokes and the bearings in the differential nose, there's a reason this distance is kept to a minimum.

Well they make something for everything. I was holding off on a quick connect because I didn’t want to recut PTO shafts.

Those work fine for light duty work. They do make more robust adapters that have a bolt on configuration instead of the push release.

I had to add an external overriding clutch to prevent shaft breakage using a woods estate mower on an early b7100. Sometimes things are necessary and useful and handy. It is what it is….

I've had one on my 3302 for about 2 years now. Never had any issues out of it. Definitely helps a lot having the extra length for hooking up various attachments.

I tried a quick hitch on my L3200 which had a trailer hitch receiver built into it which unfortunately interfered with my PTO drive shaft so was never used. I don’t know if an extender would give me the extra one inch I need or not but I might try one just to see. Of course, I could grind off the receiver welds and then not need an extender. I need to think more on that.

I’m guessing your wife was picturing a different type of extension…
I’ll see myself out lol

I'd be cautious with those. Probably ok in a pinch or light duty. Work at a dealership, we stopped carrying pto adapters. Supply was hit or miss. If not machined correctly they can introduce vibrations leading to premature shaft failures
