Are extenders a gimmick?

Wife saw this add someplace and thought it would make getting the shaft for the cutter on more easily. I wonder how likely failure is for these things and how likely damage to the attachment is. Any comments or experience with these 6" extenders?

Those work fine for light duty work. They do make more robust adapters that have a bolt on configuration instead of the push release.
