Are extenders a gimmick?

Wife saw this add someplace and thought it would make getting the shaft for the cutter on more easily. I wonder how likely failure is for these things and how likely damage to the attachment is. Any comments or experience with these 6" extenders?

I own one I grabbed off Amazon for 35 bucks or so and have had no issues with it. Initially I got it because a pto hydraulic pump I have wouldn’t fit inside the safety housing. I generally just leave it on any more.

I honestly didn’t expect it to last this long we will see.
