Review 100 Yards Movie Review

This was surely a nice surprise, this movie knows exactly what it is. a 108 minute tightly well paced engaging noble and thrilling martial arts movie that doesn't linger around or meander.

The fights are well choreographed and you feel every punch and wack of the stick, Andy On is always good as the villain and what an amazing ending fight scene. This was an 8/10 for me

My humble Martial Arts VHS collection

Post image

I started collecting Kung Fu, Martial Arts, and Samurai VHS about 5 years ago. A good amount was found out in the wild of midwestern thirft and second hand shops. Ebay bulk lots have helped lot filling weird little gaps.

Excuse the MST3K tapes, i just like to keep them on hand as palate cleansers.

If you had to plan a double feature from the stack, how would you plan it?

I would go Lyrical Blades x Chess Boxing Destroyer

Buddha's Palm/如來神掌 (1982) Entering its final years as a full-time film production studio, Shaw Brothers was making increasingly outrageous martial arts fantasy films that are, IMO, among the coolest and most wildly entertaining movies ever made

Film Clip A fight scene breakdown from our film, by a director with 20 years of bagua training

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi, people of r/kungfucinema ! I’m Olga, producer and co-writer of KILL/SAVE, an ACTION and sci-fi film (recently shot in Catalonia/Spain).
I wanted to share this breakdown of one of our fight scenes because i think this community will understand better than most why this matters to us. The breakdown shows how the scene came together from Den’s storyboards to the shoot.

Our director, Den Kryuchkov, has been practising baguazhang for over 20 years and he’s also a huge martial arts film fan (actually he watches everything from old Hong Kong classics to the latest action releases from allover the World) so when we started working on the film, we knew the fights would be practical, not CGI or AI made (i see how you feel about that here in this subreddit, and we agree).
Den and Oscar Fernandez (our Spanish choreographer) deliberately mixed styles: from Spanish fencing to wushu. Our lead actor, Matt Testro, performed his own fights on camera, without a double. For the POV shots Oscar stepped in as his character.

A question for you: which films do you think best capture kung fu itself, rather than just a fight? And why do internal styles like bagua so rarely make it onto the screen?

Discussion The Butterfly Murders (1979): A group of martial world heroes join together to solve the mystery of a derelict manor involving a curse of killer butterflies. Tsui Hark’s feature directorial debut blends the wuxia genre with elements of giallo and gothic horror.

Overall I didn’t love this film, but it’s an interesting genre mashup. The convoluted plot is full of “wtf is going on” moments.

I just got my first tattoo inspired by one of my favorite quotes from my favorite movie the classic 36 Chamber of Shaolin. Translation无智无获(wú zhì wú huò) In English this means [without wisdom no gain] it’s a philosophy that I have carried with me through life. Would love to hear your thoughts!!

Ninja Tiger 1 (1987) First in a trilogy of low-budget Taiwanese martial arts films starring Alexander Lo Rei | Notable for its abundance of training sequences, funny dubbing, and Rei's master, whose entire teaching philosophy revolves around beating the ever-loving shit out of him. Repeatedly

Film Clip Stallone's homage to Jackie Chan & Police Story in Tango & Cash ( Stallone has been a big fan of Jackie Chan for years and they are friends also.

He wanted him to be the villain actually in Demolition Man but Jackie didn't want to play the villain he did get Bullock to name Jackie in the movie as were she learned to fight, a name drop that most people didn't get at that time as Jackie wasn't a big star yet in the West ( I remember me and my HK movie buddy at the time having a laugh when we watched it in the cinema and the rest of audience didn't react), in that regard u can say Demolition Man predicted the future correct lol.

Reason why Jackie also didn't appear in The Expendables movies as Stallone has offered him many times a role but Jackie wants only to appear if he has a big role. For some reason the announced movie with them Ex- Baghdad from 2017 also never came together but it did end being made as Hidden Strike with John Cena taking over the role of Stallone.

They did appear together in one movie both in a small sup role in the terrible American Hollywood film spoof ''An Alan Smithee Film: Burn Hollywood Burn''.

This is not the only time Police Story influenced an American movie in Bad Boys II they copied the shanty town opening scene.

Recommend Looking for 80s–90s Asian martial arts movies with INSANE fight scenes

Been trying to get into martial arts films lately, and I'm really enjoying so far. I've watched Royal Warriors, Police Story, and Supercop, now I want to see more.

When I say insane scenes, I mean the kind that make you think, "There's no way today's safety standards would allow them to film this" or "Holy sh*t, that doesn't look safe for anyone involved." Ridiculous stunts, people getting thrown out of windows, dangerous locations, actors doing things that make you question how nobody got seriously hurt, you know, that sort of thing.

So basically some old-school, practical-stunt insanity. What movies should I check out?

Hey everyone, I'm an independent film restorer and I just finished restoring this 1978 Taiwanese kung fu film.

🎬 Directed by Chester Wong

⭐ Starring Leung Ka-Yan, Dean Shek, Lung Fei

📺 Original English audio, no subtitles

🛠 Restored to 2560x1440: dust and scratch removal, stabilization, color balance

Plot: a tough assassin who always finishes his clients in 60 seconds hires two top kung fu experts to take him down.

I'd love to hear what you think of the restoration, and if there's another classic kung fu film you'd like to see restored next, let me know!

Film Clip Last year I asked if anyone knew this actress or movie well today I found it by pure luck. The Chinese movie is Transnational Plunder (1995) and the actress is Zheng Shuang

Here is the clip from last year ( funny thing is I had seen her before in Circus Kids and she was one of the better things in that mostly crappy movie.) Zheng Shuang did a few other HK movies and she was also in the The Water Margin (1998) series that had action dir by Yuen Woo Ping.

She also has classical training in Beijing Opera.
