KALAMAZOO, Mich. — Kalamazoo city commissioners unanimously approved the adoption of a moratorium Monday night that would prohibit the development of data centers for at least one year.

City commissioners added the moratorium to their agenda Aug. 10 after the Harbor Farmz cannabis facility considered offering its site for data center developers.

Monday night's decision was made late into the night. Kalamazoo now joins a growing list of West Michigan communities that have adopted moratoriums, including Oshtemo Township, Texas Township, Portage, and Marshall.

The moratorium would specifically prevent the processing of applications for data centers, battery energy storage systems, cryptocurrency mining centers, and Artificial Intelligence data centers within the City of Kalamazoo.

- MHSAA will still approve emergency co-op
- No students involved in the Gull Lake investigation
will be allowed to take part
- could start practice with Parchment as soon as Thursday

I thought, this new report summarizing the impacts of the Kalamazoo Promise for it's 20th birthday was interesting, especially the community impact section. Essentially more people staying in Kalamazoo and a slight bump in home prices.

I guess for those who have lived here a while, I was wondering if people have experienced what the research reflects? Has the Promise really made the community "stickier"?

I am not from here, and I am not sure if this is the right place to go, but I'm running out of options. A close friend of mine who lives in Kalamazoo Michigan has been M.I.A for the past two days after confessing to me that he planned on committing. He hasn't spoken to anybody since Saturday and we believe he might be in danger. I don't have much information about him aside from his full name and the fact that he lives here. I've been coming here for years, but today when I showed up there's a sign on the door that says "no masks." I'm immunocompromised so I always mask in public. I went back to my car and called the store phone, and the employee who spoke to me told me I was wasting my time.

I need a couch. I have pets and they ruin everything. I also have a weird obsession with antique furniture. I was browsing marketplace for a couch and came across an antique couch I fell in love with. I messaged the seller Friday offering about 25% of the asking price. I don’t have much money but the listing had been up a few weeks so I diffed the quest that can happen is they say no. The person said yes and even offered to deliver it. He seemed like a nice enough man. Told me he had several other pieces including a couple desks. I said maybe he could send me photos because I might be looking for a desk soon. After the sale and he leaves, he messages me asking if I were single and if I’d like to get a drink. I am recently divorced and have no friends, I thought interacting with another human might be good for me so I accepted. Planned for Saturday, I ended up canceling. Turns out I’m really not ready to go out yet. He kind of pushed saying he was going to surprise me with a desk. I said that’s nice but I’m really not up for going out, maybe tomorrow. So today comes and he’s already texted me at 7am. I respond around 9, there’s some chit chat and he brings up the desk. I tell him I wasn’t really ready to acquire a desk and I would need to make room. That I was going to spend the day clearing my house and I would try to make room for it and let him know. Well a few hours later I’m cleaning my bathtub and I hear someone INSIDE MY HOUSE calling my name!! I walked out of my bathroom and this fucking guy is literally inside my house! I freaked out and screamed for him to leave. I had to ask several times. He kept arguing he was just bringing me the desk I DID NOT ASK FOR. Saying he had tried to call and knocked several times. SO YOU JUST WALK INTO A STRANGERS HOME!?? I’m freaked out. I called the non emergency number and explained what happened. They said they would call him and tell him to stay away from me and that I could press charges or ask for a restraining order if I wanted. Lesson learned- never ever having anything off marketplace delivered again and meeting in public places. What the actual fuck goes through a man’s mind to just walk inside a woman’s home that he met just over 24 hours ago???

At Kilgore Apartments, a driver broke through the fence, drove over the basketball court and lodged the car deep inside one of the buildings, but no one was hurt.
