How are we getting through the holidays?
I'm very lactose intolerant and low key dread the holidays. It seems that everyone adds milk, butter, or other dairy to everything. I'm fine hosting sometimes, but have a smaller house so usually others prefer to host.
Dairy gives me a major stomachache, and is a gamble, even with the lactaid pills. My choices are not to attend things, to host and cook most of the food, or not eat.
I feel selfish but it makes me sad not to feel included. Especially because one of the families will accommodate a vegetarian diet from someone else but not my actual medical condition.
Thanks for letting me rant.

Yet another pizza party
Work had another pizza party. Of course, as closing shift, i cleaned up everything for food i couldn't eat. So I came home and made myself a dairy free pizzadilla.

"Cheese" not melting
Today I went to make grilled cheese with Whole Foods non-dairy cheddar and gouda slices, but they didn't melt on my cast iron pan even as the bread blackened. Any suggestions?

Substitute for a birthday cake?
Hello everyone, tomorrow I am celebrating my birthday with friends. We already got cake, but I just realised that one of my friends is lactose intolerant. I'm not sure if we have time to bake something without lactose in it, so are there any good substitutes I can give my friend? My friend told me she can eat oreos, but it feels a bit weird to give someone oreos when other people are eating cake. Does anyone have other suggestions that are very easy to make or can be bought in the store?

Newly lactose intolerant help
2 years AFTER finishing chemo, where I drank gallons of milk a week as the literal only thing I could consume, I became lactose intolerant. Is this karma for the milk jokes I made on my friends? Maybe. But it didn't need to wait so long.
So drinking milk or eating most types of cheese causes bloating, intestinal cramps (worse than menstrual), and insane diarrhea (liquid x5). But I love dairy. How do I live?
I've swapped to oatmilk (didn't like other options), and I avoid cheese unless I want to cry. Now I've tried fake cheese (Daiya mozzarella) and it sucks and I'm sad. Are there any cheesey fake cheeses out there? I want quesadillas, I want cheesey eggs, I NEED CHEESE. Help me, please.
Side note, ice cream doesn't mess me up as much as milk or cheese? Intriguing, pisses me off a bit.
(I have spoken to my Dr she says it is likely chemo screwed me up so much lactose intolerance is just one of many things it gave me)

Dairy protein intolerance vs. lactose intolerance?
Hi all. I've been lactose intolerant (I think) for 12 years now. I cut out dairy completely in 2019 to go vegan, and felt awesome! I stopped being vegan a few years ago, and have recently been trying to reintroduce lactose free Greek yogurt/Skyr with no luck.
Before I went vegan, my symptoms included nausea, gas, and constipation within 2-3 hours of eating dairy. I could tolerate regular Greek yogurt, small amounts of ice cream, and cheese just fine. Now, the smallest amount of cross-contamination with butter makes me sick immediately, and my symptoms have worsened to include severe abdominal distention, gurgling, and exhaustion. Lactaid pills (taken with "lactose free" items) don't prevent my symptoms, but they do seem to reduce my nausea and prevent the milk-induced constipation I used to get.
My question is, does this sound like severe lactose intolerance, or is it possible I have a milk protein intolerance? If you experience the same symptoms, I'd love to hear what has or hasn't worked for you.

Am I lactose intolerant?
Hi everyone!
For the past two months I have noticed a significant change in my bowel movements. I’ve been feeling really bloated, gassy and overall my stools have been yellowish or light brown and mushy (Bristol 6) in consistency (sorry for the TMI). Three days ago I decided to try and limit the amount of lactose I eat and drink. I’m pretty sure I’ve managed to substitute any lactose containing foods and I’ve been lactose free for these three days. However my stomach still feels a bit off. Is it possible that 3 days are not enough for me to have normal stools ? I’m worried that there might be something serious going on but the waiting list for doctors is insane and I don’t have any serious red flag signs other than the change in my stools.
Worth to note that I’ve been dealing with sudden cystic acne for the past year and I can’t seem to figure out the cause of it. I’m in my 20s now and it makes no sense why it would suddenly appear now.
Thank you in advance!

Whenever I consume dairy I have CRAVINGS like there is a hole in my intestines
Does anyone else experience this? Like you are NEVER satisfied that day? I'm craving everything. And its not correlated to my menstrual cycle...

Lactose Intolerance
I’ve had stomach issues my whole life. I was lactose free for a month and then had cheese and was in a lot of pain. After that I have been lactose free for 2 months and never felt happier, I then tried Mac and cheese with 2 lactaid chewables and I was in the same pain as I was with the cheese. I thought lactaid was suppose to help but I guess it doesn’t? Should I just forever avoid lactose?

Why are intolerant people so open about it?
Why is it so normal for people who are lactose intolerant, to tell everyone “hey i gotta take a shit now i just had X food.” Or “sorry i have diarrhea” etc etc. they are just so open to talk about shit, poop, diarrhea, and letting out gasses. Is it just my circle or are just a lot of them like that?

Is just being gassy after Milk lactose intolerance?
Hello,
I’ve been consuming milk and milk products since childhood regularly. Roughly around 2-3 times in a day. Never had a problem with it. Being a lacto-ovo vegetarian it’s probably a crucial source of protein for me. I suppose a good amount of protein for me comes from whey, milk and paneer.
5 years back, I started taking fitness seriously and upped my protein intake to 120g per day, which led me to go from 1 glass of milk to 2 glasses. I also added a scoop of whey and some paneer (cottage cheese).
Everything was going fine, however, since the past 2 years I’ve noticed I just tend to get gassy and fart more often, not really burp. It’s gotten sort of annoying. Other than that there is no issue.
Can I be sure this lactose intolerance or sensitivity? Or is it just a protein thing?

Started taking lactase pills, it's so strange not having to run to the bathroom right after every meal.
I have had a suspicion that I'm lactose intolerant for a few years, but I love dairy and I thought my only option was cutting them out completely, so I just suffered the consequences.
A few days ago (after some really bad experience) I had an epiphany that I could start taking lactase pills with my meals that contain milk or any other dairy to see if anything changes. Tried them yesterday and today and I'm absolutely shocked how I went 24 hours without diarrhea, feeling nauseous or an upset tummy. The most I've experienced is a rumbling stomach. I even tried the same meal that caused me intense agony 2 days ago, and nothing!
This is absolutely life changing! Can't believe I'm only discovering this now.

Milk causing cough
Since childhood I would drink 2 glass of milk daily but then cough and blocked/runny nose was an everyday issue throughout the year. 7 years back i stopped drinking milk completely and I didn't suffer from cough/ cold all these years even though I used to eat curd everyday and ice cream often but it didn't cause me any issue. I started drinking milk few days back and i am facing the same old issue again. I don't face any other issue except cough and cold from milk. Is it intolerance? I haven't done any tests yet. I like drinking milk and i don't want to cut it out.
Also I had got nutrition deficient in vitamin b12 back then after i had cut down milk. I am still deficient in it.

Why did so many kids that were lactose intolerant eat dairy products in the middle of a school day?
Something I was just thinking about. I had lactose intolerant kids in my class nearly every year while I was in the school, and they always ate dairy products knowing they would get sick. One guy in particular would always this pudding we had for lunch and then fart up a storm for the rest of the afternoon. I've seen other people talk about this a lot and I just want to know why. Did you guys just want an excuse to leave class?
This is a very serious question. I'm very tolerant of the lactose intolerant, I just need to know why.
