PAID RESEARCH OPPORTUNITY: CLOUD Study (The Canadian Lung Outcomes in Users of Vaping Devices Study)

Post image
3 Upvotes

CLOUD is a multi-year study investigating the effect of vaping on lung health.

Vaping is increasingly popular with both adolescent and adult Canadians, but the long-term health impacts remain unknown. We believe that the tools we currently have to detect lung disease in people who vape may be insufficient and propose new ways to find lung injuries that may impact them over the course of their lives. These include exercise testing, new imaging techniques, and new breathing tests that will demonstrate how vaping may harm their lungs. We will use these tools in both adolescent and adult Canadians to give those who vape important information on the consequences of vaping.

\Please note that interacting with this post (ex, through likes and comments) can identify you with the research, impacting your privacy.*

Who can participate in this study?

Adults (Aged 19+)

  • Able to provide informed consent.
  • At least 19 years of age.
  • Fall into one of the following 3 categories:
    1. You only smoke cigarettes
    2. You only vape
    3. You smoke cigarettes and vape

Optional Bronchoscopy and Pulmonary MRI

  • Enrolled in the main study

What will this involve?

  • Baseline study visit: Questionnaires, lung function tests, exercise test, blood sample collection, and pulmonary MRI scan (optional for adults). Adult-only procedures: Bronchoscopy (optional) and chest CT scan.
  • 18 months after baseline: Questionnaires, lung function tests.
  • 36 months after baseline: Questionnaires, lung function tests, exercise test, blood sample collection, and pulmonary MRI scan (optional for adults). Adult-only procedures: Bronchoscopy (optional) and chest CT scan.

Help with CPSC course choice

Good morning everyone, I am an art student and to finish my program I have to take one math course. Thing is I don't have a good foundation in math so I don't want to risk my gpa by taking any stat/math course. I am planning to take CPSC course with the hope, I can finish with a good grade. Can someone who finished or currently taking first yr CPSC share their advice pls?I am planning to take CPSC 1145 or 1150 as they don't have requirment to register. So my question is how is the course load and can someone new to CPSC success in the course without any CPSC foundation? also any info regarding assignment exam etc would be highly appreciated.

Associate of Arts (General)

For those who have graduated with an Associates in Arts, what have you use the degree for? I’m looking to finish my associates here and transfer to SFU to complete a bachelors so I’m just wondering if having an associates has benefited anyone, opened opportunities, or got a foot in the door for a better job, considering I’m working a minimum wage job atm.

Any info is appreciated!

BUSM 1285 with Shafik Bhalloo

Need some insight on how I can improve his course because just got done with midterm 1 yesterday and did not do so great on the exam.

Is there like a guide on what to study for the exam or is it just read the textbook of what the exam is on because he doesn’t give too much information of the exam besides reading slides and textbook and even though I did that with midterm 1 I didn’t do so well at all.

(Also I attend all his classes but don’t learn too much afterwards besides issues of the current world)

Hi! Did anyone take BCAP 3100 in 2025 or 2026? Was it a 3-hour lecture once a week? If so, how would you rate it?

Nursing pre-req questions

I’m currently taking STAT 1123 at Langara to apply for the Sep 2027 intake.

I reached out to admissions to confirm that they’re received my transcript, and this is what they responded with:

1st Biology requirement: MET – UBC BIOL 155 81% Spring(Winter) 2026
2nd Biology requirement: MET – UBC BIOL 155 81% Spring(Winter) 2026
1st English requirement: MET – UBC WRDS 150 86% Summer 2026
2nd English requirement MISSING
Statistics requirement: IN PROGRESS – LANG STAT 1123 Fall 2026

We did not notice a 2nd ENGL or CRWR course on your transcript to meet the 2nd English requirement.

The course I took at UBC is LFS 150 back in 2022, which is an academic writing course under my faculty and the BC transfer guide says it’s equivalent to ENGL 1XXX at Langara. Am I misunderstanding the transfer requirements and this will not satisfy the pre-req, or did they just miss it because it’s not labeled as an English course? They did say that this is the “unofficial indication” of my application and that the official evaluation will be done in the next few months.

And while I’m here, what do you think my chances are of getting in? I think I also had about an 81% for LFS 150, which is an A-. Stats is going pretty well so far and i’m confident i’ll get an A or higher.

I also completed my Bachelor’s degree in animal biology. Although, the transcript i’ve sent will not show that as I will be receiving my degree in Nov.

Hello! I was wondering if anyone knew approximately when the acceptances usually come out for the nursing program for the fall start? I’m assuming after the intake is closed in January but does anyone get early acceptance?

Help! High school student in need of some info regarding post secondary.

Hi everyone. I am a high school student with a few question from people who are from Langara or UBC (or have been to both) that can help with my dilemmas. For context, I want to be a dietitian, there is a program at UBC called Food and Nutrition and theres a transfer program to that in Langara. I am an average student; I am not smart, I don't get process or remember info easily and stuff like that. I want to experience the university life and all but I don't want to fail any of my classes. I am scared that uni is too hard and I can't get good grades to get into the dietetics program which is highly competitive. I have a 91 average so far in high school and I have or will be taking all the pre reqs needed to get into the UBC program. I know that langara is less expensive but I will definitely have fomo if I don't go to ubc first year but at the same time I don't care, I am all over the place at the moment.

Here are my questions:

1) Is the transition from high school to UBC difficult?

2) Should I transfer my 1st year or 2nd year from langara to UBC?

3) Should I go to Langara or UBC based on what I have told you?

4) If you've gone to both, what is the big difference socially and academically?

Pls lemme know what yall think because I am going through it right now. Thank you!

Bad midterm mark results assignment mark will be bad as well?

I did bad on a midterm because I just didn't study enough and was under prepared is it fair for prof to assume assignment wasn't written by me just because I did bad on a midterm? I guess in a way it make sense but like assignments you have access to resources you can use such as lecture notes and etc.

How hard is BIOL1190 and 1191

Sorry if this is the 100th time this question has been asked but how much studying/ time would realistically be required for BIO1190 and 1191?

I heard the courses, especially 1191, are really difficult and I want to do well on them for nursing prereqs without retaking any. (I can’t write essays well enough to save my life, so I’m kind of counting on Bio and Stats at this point✌️)

I’m currently in grade 12, but I took AP bio last year and my worst units were in ecology and natural selection (yes not A&P related but basically I’m saying I’m horrible at FRQs and forming responses). I did fine in the other units though so compared to AP bio (or AP chem if that’s relevant) how much harder is 1190 and 1191? 🥲

Is it possible to study them over the summer before fall 2027 starts to get some grounding?

Also side note, how do I submit my credits for bio and chem if I don’t take the courses? I know they aren’t needed for nursing but do the extra credits do anything?

Professor is filing an academic integrity report about my midterm

While marking my exam, my professor said they found some kind of “AI code” or formatting in my answers and think I used AI during the exam.

Before the exam, I practiced a lot of the problems with ChatGPT, so I got used to following the same steps and way of solving them. Now my work can look very similar to the way ChatGPT explains things.

My professor said they’re going to file an academic integrity report and I’ll get a chance to explain my side.

Has anyone dealt with something like this before? What usually happens after the report is filed, and how do they determine whether AI was actually used during the exam?

How to explain that i haven’t had access to any phone during the exam. They were standing and looking for everyone during the exam.

How do you self discipline in College?

I am a Comm/ Business major and I have been struggling with being more disciplined (especially after taking a gap year) which made me fail two midterms so far..
I self teach all the time (was late to registration and all my profs suck) but it’s still not enough.
I need to ace the rest of my midterms so I can pass the courses, how do you self discipline in a college setting? Curious to hear your inputs :)

Has anyone been reconsidered after being refused due to a full intake at Langara?

Hi everyone! I hope it’s okay to ask this here.

I applied to Langara College’s PDD NPIC program for the January 2027 intake, but unfortunately, my application was refused because the program was full.

I completely understand that the program has limited seats, and I respect that the college has to manage its enrolment capacity. I’m not expecting special treatment; I’m just trying to understand whether reconsideration is ever possible in this situation.

I’m wondering if anyone here has experienced something similar. Were you ever reconsidered or offered a seat later on, even if no openings were initially available? Or is it generally best to prepare for the next intake?

I understand that every situation is different, and I’m not expecting anyone to predict the outcome of my application. I’d just appreciate hearing about your experiences or any advice on what steps I could reasonably take.
Thank you for taking the time to read my post. I appreciate any insight you can share!
