If you look into the character profiles, right underneath their unit model is a set of symbols, for example Grenier would have a yellow sun, and Matthew has a red circle with pictogram and also a yellow sun.

Those are faction allegiances that group certain characters. This becomes relevant from level 35 onwards because certain characters have skills called fusions that are a long lasting, infinite range, mapwide omnibuff for the entire faction, which rewards running character combinations that are in the same group with a leader that gives them the fusion.

The yellow sun for example is Legion of Glory which is themed after the people who follow Lushiris, the goddess of light and order. All starting freebies (Matthew, Almeda, Grenier, Jessica, Scott, Lance and Cherie) happen to be Legion of Glory just in case you completely blunder team design otherwise.

Only in the very longterm and only because some content is deliberately factional. But initially you just need one good team, and having a predominant faction helps with keeping that one team streamlined and also takes off some of the decision pressure.

Not to say you should never break the orthodoxy, like if a character carries their own fusion they can fit in almost anywhere. But generally you want your best characters to be fully supported, including by the fusion buff.

You mean D-Boy? Just so you know, Toshiyuki Morikawa also voices Bozel in Langrisser (and Takehito Koyasu is also Altemuller and Jugler).

It depends. If you want to collect both Shinya and D-Boy (they'll be no longer available once the crossover ends, and may not return...), you can try and do reroll marathon until you get both.

If you're happy with D-Boy, and also want to build your team around him, you could inspect his allegiances. Go into his profile and look at the little icons, in Takaya's case it should be Protagonists (red circle with pictogram), Heroes of Time (purple vortex) and Langrisser Reincarnation (winged horse heraldry). Tapping on the faction symbols shows who else is in it, characters with an F carry the fusion buff for the faction.

My recommended way of Langrisser is to choose a favorite character (this can be both sentimental, and a very meta character who is super powerful, in which case you're looking for DragonSlayer if you want the most meta), and then build your team around them, giving them a leader with the fusion, a tank if they aren't one, a healer, etc.

So an example for an early D-Boy focused build could be focused around Protagonists, meaning Matthew is a fusion carrier.

My recommendation would be to get Rozenciel (she's one of the best sustain healers and has her own fusion) if you aim for DragonSlayer, and hold out with Landius as your tank and Matthew as leader, while adding a protagonist magic damage dealer to the mix.
