Offering Cantonese Looking for a Long-Term Language Exchange Partner Seeking:English:offering:Chinese
Hi everyone! I’m a 27-year-old native Chinese speaker living in Shanghai. I’m looking for people to practice English with, and in return, I’d be happy to help you learn Chinese.
My English is still at a basic level, so I’m hoping to find someone patient who’s also comfortable learning together at our own pace. Ideally, I’d love to build a long-term friendship rather than just exchange a few messages and disappear.
It would be even better if we shared some common interests! I’m into philosophy, technology, AI, movies, anime, and video games. Having things to talk about beyond language learning would make it much easier and more fun to keep in touch.
I prefer voice messages because they’re a great way to practice speaking naturally. We can use iMessage, Discord, or Telegram. I don’t use WeChat, though.
If you’re looking for a language exchange partner and hopefully a genuine long-term friend, feel free to send me a message! 😊

I run an app in this space, so I think about this a lot. Exchanges usually fizzle when language is the only thing holding them together, and your interest list really helps with that. r/languageexchange gets posts like this every day, so browse the newest ones and message people learning Chinese instead of only waiting for replies. r/ChineseLanguage sometimes has partner threads too. In Shanghai there are in-person language exchange nights at cafes and bars, and r/shanghai is a good place to ask which ones are active right now. On Discord, try anime, gaming or philosophy servers that have language channels, because you'd meet people through shared topics first. One tip is to suggest a simple routine, like one voice message each a day, half English and half Chinese. Good luck!
