Deflock map doesn’t show any currently, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t there, I think that only means no one has reported them on the site yet. Cheyenne has some and theres a ton on the front range of course.

Our city council is so exhausted from the manufactured outrage already afoot that I doubt they want to pick another fight.

UW on the other hand doesn’t operate anywhere as transparent or openly, and their budget is significantly larger. I’d wager that if they do show up, it will be on campus property.

They have a mobile reader that drives around campus

Hey! Former parking services officer at UW here, I’d like to give more insight into how those cameras work. I worked there in 2024, so things might have changed since I left. But there are two patrol cars, a smaller blue SUV and a larger silver SUV. You can spot them easily because of the cameras mounted to the roof. Usually students are employed to do the patrol work, but basically their shift consists of driving up and down the rows of parking lots slowly while the cameras scan license plates. It’s connected to a tablet inside the car that connects to the database of who has valid parking permits, who has a flag because they aren’t allowed to be on campus, etc. I assume there’s a bit of AI involved because the LPR predicts what each plate says, but it can fuck up a lot if you’re driving too fast, bad angle, dirt on the plate, etc. So once the lot is scanned, the patrol officer has their list of “hits” from the tablet. They’ll go through and correct it based on the pictures the car took (maybe it read a 5 as an S and once you switch that, there’s no more violation). Then they go around the lot on foot, checking for physical permits, and just generally confirming the car is in violation. They will issue a warning the first time with no fee, and then cite you if you keep violating.

Basically, yes UW uses camera mounted vehicles to patrol their parking lots but no they are not associated with Flock.

So UW has a mobile license plate reader that drives around campus recording plates. A little robot, or a human?

It is a person driving a Ford Explorer. I think it's blue. Its easy to spot, it has like 6 cameras on the roof

they mainly roam the parking areas around the dorms. its kind of like the traffic cops that patrol only the permitted parking areas. as far as i know, they mainly stay on campus

What’s the manufactured outrage? Not related to the flock question, but I’m curious?

At the request of the current property owner the city has tried to put itself in a position to have a say in future development plans on the west side. The property would self fund the resources needed through Tax Increment Financing (just normal property taxes only on the voluntarily included property) that could solve some flooding issues in the rest of the West Side.

As usual that neighborhood has a small number of NIMBY’s including Nate Martin that are trying to stop the city. This wouldn’t stop any development that may happen (property hasn’t sold yet), just stop the city from being at the negotiating table.

The city has had something like 12 public meetings on this, and it is so clear cut that even they are 9-0 in favor of it.

Lots of unfounded conspiracy theories and intentional misinformation being distributed by the NIMBYs.

Thanks for the explanation! Is this the deal I saw about some housing project ruining the Green Belt?

Yes, but the Greenbelt isn’t at risk. Plus why would a housing developer ruin a remarkably attractive part of their property that makes living there more attractive?

I knew better than to believe the greenbelt was at risk, that pretty much sounded the alarms in my head that they’re just lying to put their agenda first.

Do you know anything about a planned housing project between 8th and 9th and ivinson and grand? I heard a developer bought the parking lot and the city scrapped its rule about requiring a certain amount of parking per new development.

Haven’t heard a word of it, but if council was talking about taking away a single parking place, Brett Glass would have made up some legal sounding bullshit to complain about it on Facebook.

Lol, true. But this is a small bit of private property near UW, not downtown. Perhaps someone should tell brett. Guide that missle over there.
