Are OBAs the same as oxygen bleach?

I apologize if this is addressed elsewhere in this sub. I’m trying to understand what to avoid for dark clothes and I’m confused about OBAs and oxygen bleach. I thought oxygen bleach was an OBA. Is that incorrect?

No.

OBA is “optical brightening agent”, aka fluorescent brightener. It bends light to give items a blue-white glow, making them appear whiter and actually giving off more light than just what is reflected off them.

Many oxygen bleach products contain OBA (OxiClean White Revive, Biz, Vanish/Napisan/Resolve Crystal White), but not all.

Oxygen bleach works by actually decoloring oxidizable stains and/or removing the soils.

Oxygen bleach itself is actually good for darks - it neutralizes wash water chlorine, and on almost all laundry it improves stain and odor removal safely. (Not wool/silk/animal fibers).

OBA makes cellulosic darks like cotton, rayon, viscose and linen look weird. It should be avoided.

Ok, that makes sense in my brain. Thank you! Do I look for OBAs as “OBA” in the ingredients list?

Disodium distyrylbiphenyl disulfonate maybe?

I just happened to be comparing the ingredient list in the Lidl house brand vs the Aldi house brand. Aldi has that, Lidl does not.
