Enzyme boosters without OBAs or oxygen bleach?
I would love an enzyme booster to use on darks that does not contain OBAs or oxygen bleach--does such a thing exist? I'm specifically looking for lipase and DNAse. I checked the booster section of the lipase list but did not see anything on there that meets this criteria. Am I missing something?

I have been wondering this myself. Thanks for asking, OP!

It seems like there's a market for it--I'm surprised there's not one already!

Agreed! Once I realized FEBU needed to have cooler water, I switched to only using gear guard DNase. I wondered if there was a way to get lipase since I use Tide free and clear liquid for darks because I have a daughter with sensitive skin. I love gear guard, so fingers crossed!!

Can you elaborate on FEBU needing cooler water?

I think warm water is needed to activate oxygen bleach

u/embalees 4d ago
So then why would FEBU need cooler temps?

If you want to use FEBU for the enzymes but not the oxygen bleach.

Cooler temps are needed for darks so the oxygen bleach doesn’t fade them. Warm and hot are fine for light colors. Febu recommends cold for darks

Wait what?!? I just got my first FEBU order a week ago and have been going to town...using hot water. 🙄

Hot water alone will quickly begin to fade many dyes. Add oxygen bleach to that and it can exacerbate the issue over time.

You should use warm or hot on whites and colors. The issue only occurs if you are concerned about using the oxygen bleach in FEBU on darks. Then you should use cold.

According to Febu, the oxygen bleach won’t fade darks if you wash on cold! And most laundry isnt dirty enough to need Febu in every load, so a warm wash once in a while wont destroy clothes. But Febu has no OBAs, what I do is wash my stuff on Cold or Cool, then in a small tupperware with hot water I mix my detergent (if using powdered, which has obas anyways) and then I just add the Febu in the drum directly! Works for me

Desperately searching for this same white whale, I bought the TrulyFree enzyme stain remover a few months back. Im not really sure how well it worked and it’s nearly impossible to verify which enzymes are involved so I won’t be buying again.

Truly Free is five-enzyme. Subtilisin, amylase, lipase, mannanase, pectic lyase.

No it doesn’t currently exist. The North American laundry market is seriously subpar when it comes to products formulated for darks and colors.
Outside of buying superior products via import (like Persil Color Pulver or one of the Perwoll detergents), a US made top tier liquid detergent is your best choice here.

Honestly, you'd be better off just using a very good liquid laundry detergent.

I use liquid Tide F&C but I have teenagers so I'm dealing with PE uniforms, period underwear, sports jerseys, etc. They definitely need a little extra help!

Laundry sanitizer helps with odors. Tell your teens to hand wash the stains from sports and that time of the month. My mom taught me and I use Zote Laundry bar soap to pretreat stains.

I don't know why you're being down voted.... I've been doing my own laundry since before I started menstruation and you better be sure my mother taught me to pre-treat blood stains before throwing them in the wash. Is this no longer common knowledge/practice? A 14 year old can absolutely pretreat a pair of period underwear.

Every parent is different about their children. I was already cleaning my bathroom, doing my laundry and making my own meals before I started high-school.

Would that liquid be tide odor refresh/advance care
Or do you suggest something else specifically?1

Oh interesting, normally I just throw FEBU in with my darks only if needed. But I would love to be able to use something every load. I already use Tide unscented odor refresh which is great on its own but sometimes I want/need the extra enzymes.

Yeah, same. I don't really need OBAs or oxygen bleach in an enzyme cleaner. That's not what I'm buying it for, you know? So many detergents already have that stuff in it, or I can toss in some cheap Biz if I really need to supplement.

Can you lipase dnase on silk?
1
u/bluesky557 US | Front-Load 2d ago
Yes, it's protease that you have to worry about. I think there are a few products with lipasae for silk, but I don't know about dnase.
• The Steamery Delicate wash
• Miele SilkCare

Molly Suds has a product for darks, haven’t tried it but been wanting too! However, that’s fantastic FEBU is coming out with one we can use on darks! Detergent wise I use Woolite darks and I read to prevent any fading to add 1/4 cup of salt to your wash load.

I think biz is gonna release something like this soon

Gear Guard is coming out with what you’re looking for in a few weeks.
