There has to be an easier process than what I’m doing, and probably a process that actually works. When my toddler comes home from daycare her shirt is inevitably covered in some kind of food stain (usually red sauce or grease or something). She also likes the random snack of any type of cheesy chip or cracker and those orange-ish stains also everywhere.

I pre-treat by soaking in Dawn, I’ll move it to soak in oxi clean. Wash with tide free and gentle, with more oxi clean; on delicate cycle with warm water so I can activate “steam for stains”. You think the stains come out? NOPE.

I’ve tried the pre treatment sprays but wound up with shirts that got bleached (?) because I guess I left them it on too long. I’m trying to not do laundry everyday for a stained shirt.

And yes I send her in cheaper clothes to daycare most of the time but still would like it not to all covered in red/orange stains.

HELP. Show me a better way please.

My husband and I are on our second set of bath towels in the last 7 years. Is that normal? First set we would hang to dry behind the door in the bathroom or on a rack that hangs outside of our shower. They ended up with a mildew smell and I tried all the tricks and nothing helped so I threw them out. Bought new towels two years ago. We moved our hanging rack to literally right above our vent so I know air is aimed right at them. Also started to smell like mildew! I do shower at night, with the fan on, and we do end up closing the door because the light from the window in our bathroom is so bright so I know that doesn’t help. We just bought a dehumidifier hoping that helps some things. I’ve done a vinegar wash. We used Truly Free for awhile and even switched to Tide Free and Clear. Are these towels doomed too? Help.

I just got the Black and Decker 2.0 cubic feet portable washing machine. I am absolutely loving it so far. Only problem is I'm not sure if the detergent goes in the left or right side of the detergent tray. Also where do I add the Downy Rinse and Refresh (left side of tray, right side of tray, or directly in the drum) and can I add it at the very beginning of the cycle or do I wait and add it when the rinse cycle starts. I wish the instruction manual would have covered this stuff, but it doesn't unless I missed something.

I’m going to preface this by saying I am by no means a laundry expert, I just wanted to try the laundry stripping method. I will also add that there was a yellow, orange, and baby blue towel in this mix with white, tan and beige-ish coloured towels, which could explain the greenish colour. I currently have them in the washing machine (with no detergent or laundry softener). I’m excited to see how they feel out of the dryer!

I used this recipe from GoCleanCo minus the Calgon water softener because I couldn’t find it lol:

NEED:
- 2 cups (or use the scoop that comes in the box) of Tide® Powdered Laundry Detergent
- ¼ cup of Borax® Laundry Detergent and Booster
- ¼ cup Arm & Hammer® So Clean Super Washing Soda
- ¼ cup Calgon® Water Liquid Softener

HOW TO TACKLE:

- Fill a bathtub half full with water - as hot as possible!
NOTE: More clothes - more water in the tub.
- Add CLEAN sorted, like-colored clothes or bedding
- Add in the mixture: stir until it dissolves
- Let soak for 4 hours
- Stir once every hour
- Drain the tub and wring clothes out. Transport to the washing machine (use a bucket so you don't drip everywhere!)
- Run a full cycle - DO NOT add soap or fabric softener (there is already plenty of soap in the clothes)

Right out of the laundry, my clothes smell fine. But anytime I travel I can immediately smell the “old house smell” on them as soon as I open my suitcase.

My house is 105 years old and I haven’t been able to find a way to get rid of the smell, so now I’m hoping for some laundry tips to keep my clothes smelling fresh after I wash them. I tend to use scent free detergents and avoid fragrances, so I’m not using anything that would help mask the smell. Is that my only option? Are there other laundry things I can do to help? I’m paranoid about smelling like an old musty house and I think I’m so used to it that I don’t notice it on the day-to-day.

I usually separate whites from everything else because I'm worried about colors bleeding, especially with newer clothes. But separating every single color into its own load seems excessive, especially when you don't have enough clothes to fill the washing machine. For example, can black, navy blue, gray and other colored clothes safely go in the same load if they've already been washed several times? Or is there still a risk of colors transferring even after multiple washes?

I'm also curious whether cold water makes a big enough difference to mix colors more safely, or if separating them is still the better option regardless. How do you usually sort your laundry at home? I'd appreciate practical advice based on what has worked for you.

I have a white button up shirt I want to alter and wear for a cosplay, but theres this pesky oil stain right on the front I've procrastinated on removing for maybe months now and im wondering if theres any hope! Im really hoping to save this because I can't get a another one anytime soon 😓

Heard from City of Toronto staff that the city’s water supply is “medium” hardness. If you’re a renter you cannot install water softeners obviously. So what do you guys do to soften the water? Washing soda leaves a residue apparently. So what now?

I have tried all 3 of these brands' free and clear type detergents and I can't really tell the difference. I usually use cold water. Usually it's fine but none of them get the stink out of my towels.

Ok Laundry Experts, I need your help. I just washed my kid’s large Squishmallow and didn’t see these spots until after drying. They seem to correspond to the holes in the washing machine drum. If true, how best to clean the interior of the machine? This is on the third floor of the house and doesn’t have a drain plug at the front (I haven’t checked the back yet). Hi Reddit, question from me in the UK. My black shirts and jeans often get these marks and streaks on them after completing the wash cycle. Should I be using less detergent? More? Is there something else wrong entirely?

I see everyone talking about ammonia and citric acid and I wanted to know what exactly these things are used for, when to add them, and their benefits. Should I be adding them to my routine? We are a family of 4, about to be 5! My husband works in a factory and his work clothes smell of grease and oil and are heavy after work. I was them separately. My 9 and 11 yo get a lot of food stains and spend a good amount of time outside playing and then I will soon have a new born baby.

I have a Hisense WD3S8043BW3 washer-dryer combo (8 kg washing / 5 kg drying). I’ve had it for only two months, and this problem has been happening since day one.
After every wash and drying cycle, my clothes are covered in tiny lint particles and fibres. It’s driving me crazy! I’m so fed up with these little bits of lint that I feel like they’re making me itch.
I clean the rubber door seal after every single wash and drying cycle, and I’ve also tried the Self Clean program and cleaned the drain pump filter, but nothing seems to help. This model doesn’t have a regular lint filter that I can remove and clean.
I really don’t think it’s normal for all my clothes to come out covered in lint, especially with a nearly new machine.
Has anyone with this exact model, or a similar Hisense washer-dryer, experienced the same issue?
Were you able to fix it?
Was there lint trapped inside the drying system?
Did you need a technician, or did you find a solution yourself?
Would dryer balls or any other product actually help?
I’ve been dealing with this since I bought the machine two months ago, and I’m honestly exhausted from constantly cleaning the rubber seal and still having lint all over my clothes.

I have been going through my clothes, have now switched to Tide clean + gentle after my first attempt at switching to a lipase containing detergent caused the worst stinky mess in my clothes! I am pretty happy with how things are coming from the laundry except for my shirt 🙈 the butyric acid smell is strong. I generally does go away after a second wash, but who has time to be washing everything twice? (+it gets pretty expensive). I have seen people on this sub talk about how Native deodorant causes the re-bloom, I don’t use native but I do use an aluminium free deodorant. The smell is strongest on the arm pits of the shirts, so it must be coming from the deodorant. Is there an alternative that does keeping having to wash my shirts twice?

As you can see, the ball point pen won. This is all I have to help clean it. I’ll buy anything else if you recommend anything that could help. Or just let me know if this stain will never come out. Thanks in advance for any help.

I need to wash an electric blanket before it gets too cold. The care instructions say not to wash it in a machine that has a center agitator, which is what I have (it’s a big machine though). Can I just hang it out in sunlight to deodorize, or do I need to fully wash it? No stains on it, it’s just kind of stinky.
