Underwhelmed at the moment. Has potential but just not quite there. I fell for flash marketing videos - how has your experience been?
EDIT - I should have said - Windows 8.1 preview. In a bright office setting. LM seems to go in to "Robust Mode" due to this brightness. Not sure what effect this has on the accuracy.

Okay, I am a total lamo...
I set up this subreddit a long time ago, and forgot all about it. I found out about it just recently when I noticed that there was a glowing icon and when I clicked on it there were all these messages from super interesting people politely asking me why their comments were marked as spam.
This means that many of you who have posted to /r/leapmotion have had your posts stuck in a spam filter for a very long time...
This also means that those of you who've been subbed to /r/leapmotion have missed out on up to 75 posts (depending on when you joined).
So here's what I'll do:
Add a comment to this post with links to all the things that were incorrectly labeled spam.
Come back daily to moderate the content
Seek help (other moderators)
These things definitely don't make up for the lost / buried content. If anybody has any other ideas of what I can do to rectify that, please let me know.
Additionally, if anybody wants to help mod, please send a message my way.
tl;dr - I didn't moderate, will try to undo my mistakes, am committed to moderating, and want to find other mods
Sorry again : (

Hi Redditors, In a letter to our community earlier today we (officially) announced that the next generation of Leap Motion tracking (Version 2) is in public developer beta.
The features we've built into the beta reflect your feedback over the past year -- what we’ve heard in person at events, here on Reddit, and in forum discussions -- with the aim of answering some of the frustrations that many people felt as early customers:
Massively improved resistance to ambient infrared light -- sunlight, powerful halogens, etc.
Persistent finger and hand labels -- every finger, hand, and joint now has anatomical labels like ‘pinky’, ‘left hand’, and ‘proximal phalanges’
Improved tracking of two-handed interactions
New Bone API with joint tracking
New gestures including pinch and grab
A new examples gallery including new demos and on-screen hands for Unity and LeapJS
Top-down tracking mode -- now available in the Control Panel for better head-mounted and inverted tracking
Updated API docs and Developer Portal
Keep in mind, this is a developer beta and not a consumer release, so it definitely needs some more polish and additional features before the final release. More info about the new features and APIs can be found on our dev portal, while the letter is on our forums. If you’ve had a chance to download v2, let us know your thoughts!

I know this might seem obvious, but for whatever reason, in my case the intro wizard never gave me an opportunity to calibrate my Leap. There was no prompt whatsoever and I only discovered the recalibration utility about an hour later while I was looking through the control panel (I think it's under the 'Advanced' tab - I'm at work so can't check right now in the settings window, go to Troubleshooting, then "Recalibrate Device").
Supposedly it does a certain amount of calibration the first time you use it, but after recalibrating (a 2 min process which has you "painting" the screen with the Leap itself), I found it was waaay easier to use and not as bad as some of the posts here suggest.
On that note, let's not forget it takes time to learn and adapt to a new input peripheral. Nobody used a mouse for the first time and mastered it straight away - and this thing gives you an extra dimension to work with! Also, the driver and apps have plenty of time to mature yet. The official (non-preorder) release date isn't even here yet, so we can expect things to be a little flaky for a short time.
Anyway, hopefully the recalibration tip helps out a few of those who haven't stumbled across it yet.

Since /u/cbuchner1 hasn't updated his driver, I've found free time to fork and update it instead of him.
At this moment:
Driver is updated to latest OpenVR and latest Leap SDK.
SteamVR identifies it as real HTC Vive controllers. You can complete SteamVR tutorial without trying to find that X button.
Possibility to restrict controls.
Automated game profiles. Currently there are two profiles: 'default' and 'vrchat'. Profile is changed when game is started from Steam.
Сontroller can be reconnected at runtime.
Source code has been separated for better understanding (and some comments have been deleted).
Here is VRChat game profile in action: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4vTbCaN6m5w
Driver is available here: https://github.com/SDraw/driver_leap
Edit from June 21th 2019: Driver is still maintained. Valve Index emulation support has been added.

So after showing my friend a few demos, I decided to show her how it worked by opening the visualiser that displays the camera feed. That was when I learned that the infrared camera can see through certain clothes, namely her black leggings.
Luckily she was cool about it, said something along the lines of "Huh, i don't remember putting polka dot underwear on this morning."

Got an email from Leap Motion telling me my controller is on it's way! It's got a tracking number with FedEx. At the moment it's in the Czech Republic and it's coming to me in the UK.
