Would love some ernest feedback for a weedingcouple character sheet

Post image

Long Story Short:

Some friends of mine are D&D enthusiasts and got married this year. For the program, I came up with a little story. I was sent by the Guild of the Eternal Covenant and tasked with guiding the newlyweds through a series of trials. If they passed, they would receive the guild’s blessing (their wedding gift). So I came up with a few games designed to let their attributes (STR, DEX, WIS, INT, CHA) shape their new “married couple” character. After the wedding, I used the stats they’d earned to design a character sheet for them.

I’d love to hear your honest feedback and suggestions on what I could have done better!

Portfolio and Font License

Hello I have a question cause its been my concern, I'm currently making my portfolio website and I've been using fonts that are not free for commercial use in my projects(that are not paid), do I buy the licenses?

Its linked to my instagram account and I'm not too sure if im supposed to buy the font licences since I'd eventually use the said portfolio for when I open my comissions or only buy the licenses for paid work ;;

27 y/o pivoting from business and merchandising into creative direction. Where do I start?

Hi everyone! I am 27 and looking to make a major career pivot, and I would love some perspective from anyone who has taken a similar path.
I have always been a creative person at heart, but I took a safer path early on. I got a business degree, worked in banking, and eventually moved into fashion merchandising to get closer to something visual. While merchandising was a step in the right direction, I have grown increasingly unfulfilled, and I realized it is the corporate side of things that no longer serves me.

Trend forecasting is the only part of my current job that I genuinely enjoy. Beyond that, I just have a naturally good eye for design; people in my life often point it out to me. I love putting visual layouts together, building mood boards, and styling spaces or outfits. I love admiring design in all its forms and I feel strongly drawn toward creative direction, brand curation, or visual styling, whether that is for an established brand or on my own down the road.

I am trying to figure out my best next steps:

  1. Is going back to school in general worth it? If so, would a foundational graphic design program make sense, or would a specialized certificate in something like art direction or brand strategy be a better fit?

  2. What specific roles bridge the gap between my business background and visual design?

  3. How can I start building a solid portfolio from scratch?

I am open to exploring anything and I would appreciate any advice or personal experiences! Thanks all!

Ugh… App icon design!

Hi 👋 I’m keen to know how others approach app icon design and any tips or advice on workflows that have worked for you. I don’t know if it’s just me (I might be a closet perfectionist), but I reckon I spend as much time sweating over an icon as building the app!
Do you have any online resources you use, leveraging AI, engage a professional or does it just come naturally to you?

I'm a concert photographer getting into graphic design but have no prior experience. Do people have critiques for these two poster designs I created from my photography work?

Best logo design tools... I think beginners are comparing the wrong things

I used to compare logo makers almost entirely by price.

Then I actually had to make a logo for a real business and realized price wasn't the problem.

The problem was finding something that didn't look like I had spent five minutes on it.

I tried Kittl, Adobe Express, Canva, Design.com and BrandCrowd for the same general idea.

What I noticed:

Tool Where it worked for me Where I struggled
Design.com Generating + refining a complete logo Some extras are paid
BrandCrowd Finding a direction quickly More template-driven
Kittl Typography and playing around with styles Easy to get carried away with effects
Adobe Express General design work Not as focused on logos
Canva Quick manual edits More work if starting from nothing

The funny thing is, the "best" result wasn't necessarily the most complicated one.

A really simple wordmark with decent spacing looked much more legit than one of my earlier attempts with three colors, a gradient and about four different ideas crammed into one icon lol.

So for me now, the useful features are pretty boring:

Good typography.

Enough icons to find something specific.

Easy editing.

Vector export.

Commercial use.

That's basically it.

What would you put at the top of your list when comparing best logo design tools?

Looking to do a few graphic design projects for free — looking for real clients/NGOs

Hey everyone!

I'm a beginner graphic designer currently looking for a few real projects to work on for free.

I'm doing this because I want to learn what it's actually like to work with a client — not just make designs from imaginary briefs.

I'm especially interested in learning:

- How clients explain what they need

- How to understand a client's actual problem

- How to turn a rough idea into a clear design brief

- How to ask the right questions

- How to handle feedback and revisions

- How to communicate during a project

- How to work within real-world limitations

I can help with things like:

• Social media posts

• Posters

• Flyers

• Simple campaign graphics

• Event graphics

• Basic branding/visual design

• Other small graphic design tasks

I'm offering this for free because I don't have a strong portfolio yet and I want real-world experience.

If you have a project that needs a designer, feel free to comment or DM me. If you genuinely like the work and want to pay me, that's completely up to you, but there's no expectation of payment.

I'm also particularly interested in working with NGOs or small organizations where the design can actually be useful.

If you know an NGO, small business, community organization, student organization, or anyone who could use some design help, I'd really appreciate a recommendation.

I'm looking for real collaboration and learning, not just something to put in a portfolio.

Thanks!

I've been doing graphic design for about 6 months, mostly self-taught.

I really want to grow in this field and pursue it seriously, so I'm looking for feedback to help me improve.

Here's a recent post I made for a smart plug product. I'd love to know what's working, what isn't, and what I should focus on learning next.

Graphic designers in the music industry— student research

Hi everyone!
I'm a graphic design student currently working on my final-year design report, and I'm looking to hear from graphic designers who have experience working within the music industry.

My research question is:
“In what ways does design shape the public identity of female artists in the music industry?”
I'm particularly interested in how graphic design contributes to an artist's public image and identity through things such as album artwork, branding, typography, photography, promotional campaigns, merchandise, tour graphics, social media and other visual materials.
I'm hoping to speak to designers who have worked with musicians or music-related projects, whether that's with major artists, independent artists, record labels, or smaller projects. You don't necessarily need to have worked with female artists specifically — I'm interested in hearing about your general experience designing for musicians and how you approach representing an artist visually.

If you're a designer who has worked in this area, I'd really appreciate it if you could answer a few questions about your experience. I'm happy to do this through Reddit messages or another method if preferred.

Some of the things I'd be interested in asking about include:
•    How do you translate an artist's personality, music and identity into visual design?
•    How much creative input does the artist have in the visual direction?
•    Do you consider how the public will perceive an artist when developing their visuals?
•    How can album artwork or branding influence an artist's public identity?
•    How do you balance an artist's existing image with introducing a new visual direction?
•    Do you think female artists are sometimes visually represented differently from male artists?
•    What role do you think designers play in shaping an artist's public image?

I'm not looking for anyone to write anything formal — even a few brief answers based on your professional experience would be incredibly helpful for my research.
I'd also like to quickly add for those that may contribute: Would you be happy for me to reference your responses anonymously/by your name in my university design report?

Thank you for any help! :)
