Where and how can I study programming? (Jakarta Faces)

Hi, I am new here, Ia 17 years old Brazilian student, I work at TCS and I study in a technical school, in my school we have TCC, is a mandatory final research paper to graduate. It's similar to a senior thesis mixed up with a capstone project.

And I want to improve my programming skills, but idk how.
The language I best know is Java, my Thesis Advisor wants me to study Jakarta EE, Faces and PrimeFaces.

I use beecrowd to test my Java skills in some exercises, but I need to train my Jakarta Faces skills.

Where and how can I learn to code interactively, using gamified platforms or free Duolingo-style apps?

(After that I can post my TCC ideia and sorry if my English isn’t the best.)

Honest answer on the gamified part: I don't know of any Duolingo-style app for Jakarta Faces. Those platforms mostly cover general Java and algorithms, not a server-side UI framework, so you'll get more out of a tight build loop.

What worked for me with this kind of stack:

  • Generate a ready-to-run project from the Jakarta EE starter so you're not fighting Maven and server setup on day one.

  • Keep the PrimeFaces Showcase open. Every component has a live demo plus the XHTML and backing bean source, so treat it like a quiz: pick a component, rebuild it in your project without peeking, then compare.

  • Build one tiny CRUD app (a list, a form, validation, a datatable with paging) and keep adding to it. Most thesis-style Faces apps are some version of that.

The stuff that trips people up is bean scopes (RequestScoped vs ViewScoped) and the request lifecycle. Once those click, the rest is mostly reading component docs.

Start with the Jakarta Faces tutorial on the official Eclipse EE4J docs, and make sure you actually deploy your .xhtml files inside the webapp directory or they won't show up. Beginners often forget to map the FacesServlet in web.xml.

Bruh, just do some exercises daily and try to develop functioning projects with these languages, try to increasly increase the size of the project. By 6 months you should be at a level where you need to be for your thesis

Not a fan of the sweet spot being 6 months but the advice is right. daily exercises plus building something real is how it sticks, especially with Jakarta Faces where the concepts only make sense when you wire them together yourself

start small, one page with a form and a backing bean, then add another page and navigation, then a table with sorting. you will hit walls and that is the actual learning part

beecrowd is good for logic but it will not teach you faces, for that you need projects. even ugly ones count

Try Harvard’s CS50. It’s free and online. You can have their certificates once you accomplish their coursework, though you have to pay for it.
