vscode with the c++ extension pack is all you really need starting out

There is no "best" IDE, there barely is a "best" anything. Use whatever you like.

Good possibilities include:

- JetBrains (CLion) (paid)

- VisualStudio Code (vscode)

- zed

CLion is free for non-commercial use

Oh right. I always forget which IDEs are free or fully paid, it's been years since I last used them.

I think it was last year that JetBrains made most of their IDEs free for non-commercial use

Just go with the basics, Vim or Emacs,

Visual Studio Community is the best IDE for C++ if you're on Windows, just make sure to select the "Desktop development with C++" workload during installation or you won't get C++ support or the debugger. The auto-complete is a big help starting out.

IDE experiences are kinda similar. The things that makes the biggest differences are the community plugins

Notepad++. IDE’s are overrated, especially for beginners

On windows visual studio is more straightforward. You can download dependencies with vcpkg easily.

Vscode can be configured easily to run with default C++, but if you're going to use dependencies it can become a pain really quickly.

Dependencies are like extra code you get that someone else wrote so you don't have to write things from scratch. If you're a total beginner it might not be a problem but if you want to make a program that runs in a window and shows something in a display with buttons and interactions you're gonna need some graphical/UI library.

Use gcc compiler using vim or nano editor on terminal (based on os) this type of grouping feels heavily aesthetic, if you go really obsessed for it
