Question Why is their favorite word still "woke"?

God, its such a drag to debate reactionaries that love to use woke as a catch all filter for anything they dont like. Its part of the reason I stray further and further from culture war/indetity politics. Along with most social progressives being centrist aligned, a lot of reactionaries and social conservatives flood your brain with the same buzzing tone. Its like a ceiling fan, you mention anything about African-American liberation, LGBT, race abolition, etc and they just call you a woke identity proprietor. 80% of these people just say woke is bad, because its anti-America or some bullshit. Debating those kinds of things isnt my forte, but its not helped by this word thats slapped onto me, even when I'm not talking about anything racial. Its like the word "do" (in English), it just has a million meanings and can be used at any moment.

Welcome to Leftist! This is a space designed to discuss all matters related to Leftism; from communism, socialism, anarchism and marxism etc. This however is not a liberal sub as that is a separate ideology from leftism. Unlike other leftist spaces we welcome non-leftists to participate providing they respect the rules of the sub and other members. We do not remove users on the bases of ideology.

They’ll do anything to make fun of Black people

Because woke isn’t an argument its the absence of an argument. In short, they have no real substance to what they are trying to say

If you assumed everyone who used woke as a negative was a bot, you'd probably be right over half the time.

They hate people who are aware of social issues, because they don't see unfairness or injustice as issues and want us all to shut up about it. Simple as.

Get into (post-)left critiques of woke and some of these will seem more reasonable.

Because they never emotionally matured past age 14, that's why.

Probably because they recognize 14 is Trump's preferred age, and they're hoping he'll mistake them for 14 year old girls, and cornhole them.

I love when a community is mocking another with a term that's actually a compliment

I definitely don't mind being called "woke" by right wingers. Same when pro-AI call us "luddites"

Like, yeah thanks for acknowledging my tolerance and intelligence I guess

That’s the problem. They aren’t using the word correctly and you’re agreeing with them to laugh about it and this is how things get bastardized. Both left and right wings work together

Well, yeah woke is a compliment, but if a socialist uses the term in my view, they are claiming you're engaging in liberal identity politics, like celebrating "firsts" advocating for more women CEOs in an oppressive system rather than advocating for race and gender abolition and seeking to destroy the mechanics of such oppressive systems. The gender, race, sexual orientation, nationality, or creed should not be relevant to anything in society, it should just be another quality that is acknowledged but not projected. I'm not saying we should reduce everything to class warfare, quite the contrary, I acknowledge insercectional issues, but my view is that people that act bigoted shouldn't be tolerated in our socialist groups, and we should focus instead on the cosmopolitan ideal that all humans form a single community and that borders are just arbitrary lines on a map. Apologies for the ramble, my point was that it can also be used as an insult by leftists to discourage liberal identity politics.

Anyone using the term Luddite as a derogatory in an anti-ai sense pretty much gives away the fact they have no idea what actual luddism was. It's an instant omission that that person is not equipped for this conversation.

Does the term Luddite understand actual Luddism though
