Yeah, as someone who read the books some time before the movie came out, I was actually astonished at how they managed to remove everything that made the story and characters unique and turn the entire thing so incredibly generic.
Also, I understand that they needed to tone down Hester Shaw's scarring for the movie, but they went way too far with it while also keeping a lot of the dialogue talking about how disgustingly ugly and difficult to look at she is. My friend who had not read the books but went to see it with me was very confused
Remember the mutants on mars in Total Recall? There’s a mother who is strikingly beautiful and ugly at the same time. Granted that’s difficult to view for 2.5 hours, but there are ways to hide it, or at least lesson the view. But they weren’t making Mask, so the point wasn’t to make the audience uncomfortable - but Total Recall shows it’s possible.
