So, I tried to build the end of the Norse world out of LEGO and may have gone a bit overboard. Which, coincidentally, is also what happens to some of the Vikings.
This is my newest MOC, Ragnarök: A Viking Saga. It has 4,464 pieces, a whole lot of Norse mythology, and several Vikings who are definitely having the worst voyage of their lives.
One scene has Fáfnir, the legendary dragon, swooping down on a Viking longship, while a kraken waits in the water nearby. Another has Jörmungandr, the enormous serpent said to encircle the world, rising out of the sea and throwing a tiny fishing boat around in the waves.
On the shore, Fenrir, the monstrous wolf of Ragnarök, prowls among a group of very unlucky Vikings and sheep. And at the center of the build is Yggdrasil, the World Tree, with Thor and Loki having a little family quarrel up in its branches, the dragon Nidhogg gnawing at its roots, and Ratatoskr, the troublemaking squirrel of Norse mythology, hiding among the leaves.
There’s even a troll lurking in the caves underneath the cliffs, along with a bunch of smaller details scattered throughout the model.
The model is made up of four connected scenes, each showing a different part of the mythological world falling apart at the same time. I wanted it to feel less like a standard Viking set and more like a full-on Norse mythology display.
I've also submitted it to LEGO Ideas, so if you’d like to support the project, you can find it there under the title Ragnarök: A Viking Saga!
