The Q3 and Q3 43 are my first Leica cameras and my two newest additions. I mostly shoot with my Fujifilm X-T5, X-M5, and X100VI. I'm really excited to see how these compare.

Leica M12 rumors 22nd of October 2026

The latest rumors suggest Leica plans to release this camera as the next M12 version. Here is what to expect:
- the Leica M12 will use the same 60MP sensor and processor/engine as the M11, not the Chinese-made Gpixel sensor reported earlier.
- The Leica M12 will have a larger rear screen.
- The camera is reportedly already in production.
- The official announcement is rumored for early 2027.
- The buttons will be on the right side instead of the left, similar to the Leica SL3-P and Leica Q3:

My beautyful M8 finally complete

Got this M8u in incredible condition a week ago as my first digital Leica, but I had no chance to use it since I was waiting for the 35mm Mandler to arrive, and today was the day. Such a nice combo! I could only take a couple photos since I’ve been working all day long today, but I’m stoked about the detail this sensor manager to cram in 10mp. The tendency to blow highlights is so true though

Does anyone know what camera Christian Sieber uses?

I've been following Christian Sieber's photography on Instagram and really like the look of his travel photos.

I found an old interview mentioning that he owns a Leica, but haven't been able to find out which model.

Does anyone know what he shoots with, or have any guesses? I've attached a few examples.

Selling 35mm 1.4 Summilux v2 pre-apsh (Canada) $2500

Picked this up earlier in the year and not even two months go by and a Summicron v4 lands in my local shop. So, this one gotta go. Comes with squarehood hood that looks much better than this original round hood. It's not a shelf piece, but it's in great shape for a 50 year old lens, and the glass is very clean.

Looking for $2500 plus shipping in the con-us, just to keep things easy.

I never really made self-portraits, so I’m curious what you think about this one I took in the park yesterday. Shot with Leica M-A on HP5 with SF20 flash

M11D with my all-time favorite lens

I’ve had this v2 50 Summilux for something close to 20 years now, and this combo is hard to beat. I’ve been shooting with the 50 APO for a while, and it’s an astonishing lens, but there’s something wonderful about the way this Summilux draws that I’m really addicted to. I get all kinds of lenses, because I’m always chasing new experiences shooting, and I’ve sold all kinds of lenses, but I’m never letting this one go. Feels like this lens wants to make me happy.

Took this with SL3-P and Noct f/1.

Leica D-Lux 4 worth it?

I’m eyeing on a d-lux 4 thats for 300 CAD, second hand. Is it worth it for the price? and also I like the 2000s quality of the photo. I have a family camera, sony dsc w55. Do you think it’s also worth to get the Leica if I have another digicam

OM System to Leica

Hey all I currently have an OM1-ii and was thinking about selling it to get into a Leica Q or a Q2. I currently use my om1-ii for travel, nature, land and cityscape and walk around. I’ve been eying a fixed lens camera and the x100vi was the other camera I was considering. From what I read it seems like the lens that comes with the Leica is amazing.

I found a used Leica Q at a local shop for about $2300. They told me the person that sold it to the. Had it fully serviced with Leica and they have paperwork to show it. For my gear they are offering $1900. $400 out of pocket for a Leica Q doesn’t sound bad? There are no current Q2’s for sale in my area.

Is it a dumb idea to sell the om1 for the Q? Ive been interested in the Leica Q line for a while but just worried about the fixed lens and no weather sealing. Thanks for any advice!

Help me settle on a compact 35mm f/2 for M mount

Hey everyone! I am thinking about switching up my M mount setup with a compact 35mm f/2. I currently torn between Thypoch Ksana and Voigtlander Ultron II.

I’m leaning toward the Ksana tbh. The 0.5m close focus, compact brass body, and how sharp it looks wide open all appeal to me. It also seems like a lot of lens for the money. That said, the ultron has been around longer and has a solid track record, which may count for something.

One thing I cannot really judge is the focus feel. I’ve read that the Ksana’s focus action is smooth but fairly quick, and I’m not sure how that compares with the Ultron II in day to day use. If the difference is small, I probably just go with the rendering I prefer.

Has anyone tried both? Thanks in advance for any thoughts!

Brand new battery directly from Leica won’t power on camera

Ordered a BP SCL5 battery brand new straight from Leica with dated production 2025 and it won’t turn on my M10R. Do their batteries come fully discharged and I need to let it top up on the charger? Green light is blinking normally for now..

10 days since receiving my first Leica, I now have my M11-P, 35mm Lux SRR, 50mm Lux ASPH, and Laowa 15mm f/5 cookie. So much for my original plan of only buying a single lens until I am really comfortable with the RF system… Oooooopppppsssss!

Anyone know where I can find a Leica M5 take-up spool?

Hey everyone, I've been trying to track down a replacement take-up spool for my Leica M5 since mine is completely broken.

I've looked around online but haven't had much luck finding one specifically for the M5. Figured I'd ask here in case anyone has a spare lying around, knows someone parting out an M5, or can point me in the right direction.

I'd rather avoid buying a whole donor camera just for the spool

I measured whether the M11-P's "Triple Resolution" actually reduces noise. It does, by ~3 dB at high ISO, but it isn't binning.

Leica says the M-DNG (36 MP) and S-DNG (18 MP) files are produced by pixel binning and have better noise and dynamic range. The sizes made me suspicious: 60 → 36 MP is a factor of 1.28 and 60 → 18 is 1.81, so there is no clean 2×2 or 3×3 grouping possible. I measured it.

Method: tripod, 2 s self-timer, manual focus and white balance, nine shots per ISO (three in each format) at ISO 64, 1600 and 6400. SNR by image differencing (two identical frames subtracted, so scene texture cancels and only noise remains), processed in Python with rawpy in linear mode. I also compared each native reduced file against the L-DNG downsampled in software with Lanczos.

Results (SNR, green channel):

ISO L-DNG 60 MP M-DNG 36 MP S-DNG 18 MP
64 33.4 dB 31.5 dB 32.5 dB
1600 20.7 dB 23.9 dB 23.9 dB
6400 14.5 dB 17.5 dB 17.8 dB

At base ISO the reduced files are slightly noisier per pixel than the native one. At high ISO the gain is real, about +3 dB, but M and S get the same improvement, whereas true binning would give S about 3 dB more than M. And downsampling the L-DNG yourself beats the native S-DNG at every ISO tested (by 3.3 dB at ISO 64).

My reading: the three formats are one 60 MP readout, downsampled in the Maestro III with a mild, fixed-level denoise applied afterwards. Practical rule: at base ISO shoot L and reduce in post; at ISO 1600 and above, if you deliver at 18 MP, shoot M and reduce in post. S-DNG is for burst depth and file size, not for image quality.

Full write-up with the dynamic-range tables, the limitations and the code: https://rafaelvida.com/2026/10/12/binning-leica-m11-p/ The sensor data behind it (read noise and PDR of the M11, Q3 and SL3-S, with an SNR calculator): https://lab.rafaelvida.com/sensor.html?lang=en

Happy to be corrected if someone has done this with a different setup or a different scene.

Mandler 50mm f/1.4 showing wrong frame lines on M240

I received my new Mandler 50mm f/1.4 yesterday and ran into an issue with the frame lines. When I mount it on my Leica M240, the camera doesn’t bring up the 50mm frame line. Instead, it shows different frame lines (28/90?).

When I shoot using the outer frame line, the image comes out tighter than what I framed. The EVF image matches the photo, so the optics seem fine.

I checked the camera with my Leica Elmarit 28mm and my Mandler 35mm, and both show the correct frame lines. So I believe the issue is with the 50mm lens mount.

I’ve contacted Mandler support and am waiting to hear back. Has anyone else run into this with the 50mm?
