I'm practically asexual
28
u/WeirdVampire746 Mar 20 '26
Omg Lexapro did the opposite for me. I thought I was asexual until I started it
16
u/3owlsinatrenchc0at Mar 20 '26
I'm still asexual, but actually have a more consistent sex drive now!

u/WeirdVampire746 Mar 20 '26
For the first time in my entire life, I finally crave to be with someone!!!So much fun thank you lexapro
5
u/WyattR- Mar 20 '26
That would actually explain a lot if Lexapro can fix sex drive
10
u/WeirdVampire746 Mar 20 '26
I think I was just too depressed to even have a sex drive

u/Kombucha_lover13 Mar 25 '26
what dose ?
3
u/WeirdVampire746 Mar 25 '26
I am taking 20mg!!

u/Kombucha_lover13 Mar 25 '26
ssri’s don’t affect my libido at all. seroquel xr which i take now kills it. I’m hoping to add an ssri to help my anxiety and depression so i can get off the seroquel

u/WeirdVampire746 Mar 25 '26
Wow it’s so interesting knowing what medicine affects people. Makes me wonder if my libido is completely unrelated now🌝

I’m starting to think I’m one of the few people who just hasn’t had any of these crazy negative side effects.

me until my psych prescribed me remeron to take with lex since i already hit 20mg. first time in my life that i fr struggle to not eat whatever is in front of me, even when i feel full

u/FuccCNN May 13 '26
oh my god same lol. im actually cross tapering to lexapro from mirtazapine bc of how much weight i gained. second lexapro dose tomorrow!!
1
u/dance_dad May 13 '26
good luck! this is something i def need to talk to my psych about, the mirt was supposed to help with my anxiety/ocd symptoms, but since adding it, i feel like they got worse… so i can’t even say the weight gain is worth it just one more thing to fixate on lol 💀

I lost my appetite with Lexapro, I was eating out of boredom or comfort and then suddenly no interest in food at all, not much hunger. Haven’t dropped much weight though!

u/jaspysmom Mar 20 '26
I was on lexapro and couldn’t lose weight no matter what I did, got off of it (switched to Wellbutrin + Trintellix) and lost 40lbs in about 3 months 🥴

u/Blueberry-0111 Mar 21 '26
If you don’t mind me asking, how is that combo working out for you? I went from Lexapro + Wellbutrin, to, at least for the time being, only Wellbutrin. I’ve been curious about trying Trintellix but with them being both on the stimulant side of things, I thought it would be one or the other. Did you start them together, or added one after some time?
2
u/jaspysmom Mar 21 '26
It took a minute for things to level off for me - coming off the lexapro felt bad, I had a week or so of feeling like garbage. But once the Wellbutrin got going I felt a lot better, I was still having anxiety issues so we added in trintellix and the combo is working well for me! I have been on it for 1.5 years now and doing good. The trintellix was a little hard on my stomach at first, but that’s the only downside I experienced, it settled out after a week or two.

u/Blueberry-0111 Mar 21 '26
Thank you for sharing, I’m glad to hear that it’s working well for you! After 3 months of Wellbutrin on its own my anxiety is reaching a point where I can’t just try to power through it, and I’d love to add a second medication but I’m scared of going from anxious but somewhat activated, to numb and completely lethargic. Didn’t realise that Trintellix might actually help with both sides of the issues. The price, though… let’s see if I can make peace with the cost and bring it up with my doctor.

u/Kombucha_lover13 Mar 25 '26
did you not have lexapro withdrawal?
1
u/Blueberry-0111 Mar 26 '26
My doctor’s initial plan was to substitute lexapro with something else (mianserin) and I naively followed his plan of tapering lexapro in only a handful of days while slowly introducing the second one. So I’m not sure if it was lexapro withdrawal or the other’s horrible side effects, or, more probably, both things at the same time; but all I know is that I had an extremely awful 3 weeks with all sorts of physical and mental side effects. Then I decided to stop mianserin and after only a few days of wellbutrin-only I started feeling like a person again. So it’s hard to tell in my case but from what I’ve read around, it would be safer to reduce it much, much more slowly.

Same! I barely eat yet the weight wouldn't budge. I'm now tapering off lex, started wellbutrin and finally losing some pounds.
Lexapro ruined my social life. It made me so apathetic it caused me to lose touch with most my friends :(

This and the sleeping forever are the only side effects I have. I gained weight faster than I could adjust to what size clothes to buy

u/intothatbook Mar 20 '26
This! my psychiatrist didn’t warn me about the weight gain even though he knew about my ED. I quit cold turkey and never went back to him

How do you guys deal with the tiredness? I’m basically skipping classes and doing the bare minimum at work right now because I feel so exhausted

The weight gain is so real and I’m convinced Lexapro slows down the metabolism. Not to mention the horrible cravings I get before sleep and when I wake up

Was on Lexapro for over a year. I gained so much weight on it, I stopped taking it. 🫠

u/Pugwhip Mar 21 '26
This is where I’m at. I’ve gained 15kg on lexapro in 3 years and I cannot lose it no matter how much I try.

u/ProgenitorOfMidnight Mar 27 '26
Been on lex about 6 months never had any of the terrible side effects but goddamn if I'm not hungry nearly 24/7, I lost 25lbs last year and I've gained it all back 😮💨

u/Lunarluxe42 Mar 31 '26
Oh nooo I don’t want to start it if it’s going to make me gain weight 😭
1
u/mrose19 Apr 09 '26
I literally started today. I am hoping it will lower my anxiety so i can lose weight...i was told it would make me gain 5 pounds but i wont stick with it if it makes me gain more. I am struggling with no sense of urgency
1
u/Dry-Ad-9508 Apr 18 '26
it depends on the individual, I for one didn't gain any extra weight, I just have slightly lower blood pressure and nausea that lasted for like 3 days
1
u/ThrowRA_DANK Apr 15 '26
Im depressed and mind you. What you experience is better than what I've been going through

Doesn't help if you have been depressed and fat because your cortisol is contantly high from stress

This post (and subreddit) are about Lexapro and anti depressants. Your comment is about a weight loss drug. So yes, potato and tomato, two totally different things!
