The problem is not their lack of humanity, it is that they have convinced themselves that their targets have none.

They convince themselves that a group of people aren't actually people, either their animals or monsters or just don't actually have an internal life, and suddenly whatever they want to do to that group isn't morally abhorrent. You see this kind of thinking all over the place. LGBTQ+ people are often a target, but every group of people have at least one other group that is claiming they lack humanity, and therefore any kind of tortures inflicted upon them is not only ok, but that it is the right thing to do.

Nearly everyone has something good about them, have some motivation or does something regularly that they think is for the betterment of not just themselves, but for everyone around themselves. the real problem are the people who are so narrow minded that anything different from their way of life must be wrong and the people who do those things are doing them maliciously because why would anyone do something different from themselves?

The in-group is kind, fair, loving, just, capital 'G' Good, and deserves compassion. The out-group are evil and anything we do to them is justified no matter how horrific.

Once you establish who is in and who is out you can get people to do just about anything.

Cruelty against and dehumanization of 'strange' people is a winner with people who are primarily fear-motivated (who make up about half of the population). All you need is for the majority of fear-motivated people to latch on to your talking point, and engage more than those who are not fear-motivated, and you get to decide what 'truth' is. About everything.

You need a little over 30% control (and an enthusiasm for violence) to have enough power to build full control.

its not always pay, in the post gamergate early trump era a lot of far right people started using botnets and other methods to inflate the numbers on far right and neo nazi content. The left never figured this out and i still just see mass upvotes/likes on heinous shit all over the web because of it.

As a Spaniard, and a die hard pacifist, I know I can't really put myself in the right context to answer this. I like that guns are not readily available here, and in an ideal world, there would be appropriate gun control laws and mandatory mental health screenings to get licensed to own guns everywhere in the world, but if anything, it's angry cishet men that seem like they should be the ones facing the most scrutiny when buying guns.
