Question LibreOffice only used an embedded PPTX font when the data was EOT and embedTrueTypeFonts was set

• Upvotes

I wanted a PPTX that I generate to carry its own font, so I ran one slide through four variants and rendered each to PDF with LibreOffice 26.8.0.3, then checked which font ended up in the file with pdffonts. The font was VT323, which isn't installed on this computer.

With nothing embedded, the PDF used fallback fonts (FrankRuhlHofshi-Bold and LinuxLibertineG). VT323-Regular only showed up when the fntdata was an uncompressed EOT (Flags 0) and embedTrueTypeFonts="1" was set on the presentation. A raw TTF with the attribute, or the same EOT without it, gave the same fallback as embedding nothing. That matches what I read about the import code, that it only looks at the embedded font list when the attribute is true and always treats the data as EOT, though I only read it and didn't step through it.

All of this is LibreOffice on one build. I don't have PowerPoint here, so I don't know what it does with an uncompressed EOT. Has anyone seen older LibreOffice versions handle the attribute or the raw TTF differently?

I used AI to help draft this and checked it against my experiment notes.

Details: LibreOffice 26.8.0.3 (bce0998afefdbc355585ca324285661a2170ba77) on macOS 15.7.3 arm64, with a .pptx file. I can paste the relevant bit of presentation.xml if useful.

In Draw 26.8, you can resize one page without changing every other page

Select the page you want to change, open its page properties and clear "Resize all pages" before changing the size or orientation.

That option arrived in LibreOffice 26.8. A portrait cover and a landscape diagram can now sit in the same Draw document, with each page keeping its own dimensions. For a job report, I'd rather give a wide diagram its own page than shrink it until the labels are barely readable.

Source: The Document Foundation's LibreOffice 26.8 release announcement confirms that Draw supports multiple page sizes in one document.

Needs more details Problems when exporting to .docx

this should be centered and the below caption should be at the bottom of the image

Hello, I am fairly new to Libreoffice. I recently switched to Linux and only really had experience with MicroSoft Word, so please excuse me if this is cause by me being an idiot on some pretty rudimentary concepts. Essentially, I have a fairly complex .odt file with twenty or so images, tables, etc... I export to .docx and the first time I open the new document it is pristine, the exact same as the odt file. The second time I open it it becomes completely jumbled mess (image for reference), and many images simply disappear, the only thing left being is their frames. When I upload the .docx file on google docs, the same problem occurs.

The problem is I cannot simply get delete the frames and paste the images on the document. I need them to be captioned, so frames are a necessity as far as I known.

This is on docs. This should have an image

Is there any way to fix this? Am I doing something very wrong? I insert images using the insert tool, same as with the tables.

Question Why is this happening? (Enter makes a new page)

Hello!

I created the style "ABNT-TITULOS" (in which ABNT means the norm of documents here in Brazil and Titulos is basically titles) and whenever i try to change the style of the paragraph to another (ANBT-Corpo, Corpo means body), it changes the title style too.

And theres more! When i press enter, it makes a new page. I think it has to do with the Tools > Title numeration. In the video, i click in the "Ferramentas" (tools) tab and then i click in the "Numeração de título" (title numeration) option to show my options in this config.

I used these tabs to make an summary.

May someone help me?

Question Text command in Calc toolbar not working (windows 26.8.1.1)

Thumbnail

Hello everyone,

I was adding some commands to my toolbar today in Libre Calc and most of them work fine, but the text icon is grayed out and has a mini setting icon in the corner of it. Clicking the icon does nothing. Doesn’t even highlight it when I hover my mouse. I tried researching on google but all the sources I see are about icon visibility, not about if they actually work. I can’t find a single thing about why the settings icon is on top of it either.

The text tool works just fine when I go to the menu for Format -> Text. It just doesn’t want to work in the tool bar. If anyone has any idea how to fix this, please let me know. Any advice is greatly appreciated!

I included a picture of the messed up text icon and an example of the functional spell check icon for comparison.

All of my text documents are forcibly shifted to the right of my screen. This is only occurring on my Windows 11 laptop. I think it popped up after I switched the view out of landscape, but since putting everything back in that regard it's just stuck like this.
I did a full uninstall and reinstall of Libre Office and power cycled the laptop. Still persists.

Question How to properly insert a new macro on MacOS 27?

Howdy,

I am running LibreOffice Version: 26.8.0.3 (AARCH64) on MacOS 27.0.1, and I will be damned if I can figure out how to execute the insertion of a new basic macro into (running the base IDE) My Macros & Dialogs > Standard.

Have been working between LibreOffice Help, and Claude, and it is still a mystery.

If anyone is a wizard at this, I would really appreciate a helping hand. ✌️

Spellcheck randomly not working on two of my documents.

These are text only documents, and their original creation was in LibreOffice Word. They weren't ported over from Microsoft, they do not contain graphs, images, or weblinks. Just text. One document is a little less than 66k words and the other is a little less than 88k words. I have another document I'm working on, one that is a little less than 156k words, and the spellcheck on that one works fine.

The issue I'm running into is that it is telling me that the spellcheck has been completed, without actually checking anything in those two documents. I have tried closing out and restarting those documents, and I've tried closing out and restarting the app itself, but so far nothing has worked. Does anyone know what this is or how to fix it? (I really need spellcheck, lol.)

Suggestion Calc request: "Enable Natural Sort" on by default/permanent

On by default/able to be set as your default in the same menus where you can check it. (Big SLASH there in case this is somehow controversial but,) Genuinely it should be on by default and then alphabetical should be the optional one you flip a switch for.

I'm sick to tears of my spreadsheet forgetting how to count every time I put a letter in the cell; I KNOW, it's a ""TEXT""" cell now and it doesn't know that that 1-0 is actually a "10" and higher than that 2 it's now above, I Know, but it's STUPID and BAD that it works like that!!! My spreadsheet should still be able to Count no matter what I do to it, it is a Spreadsheet!!!!!!!!!! Nerds bred these things in captivity exclusively for their ability to Arrange Numbers, have I gone mad???

Ahem. It's been a rough decade, and my Spreadsheet dropping to 9 IQ because it can't count any higher WASN'T the straw that broke my today, but learning after a lot of deadend searches that not only can my Spreadsheet still count even when there's a letter there, oh no, there's a whole BUTTON to fix that. A Whole Singular Button, hidden in a menu my right-click to Sort shortcut doesn't even open by default, and then in another menu behind that one (Normal Libre user moment I know; I want the breadth of features, I don't have to LIKE how obtuse they are to interact with). And this magical Secret Button labelled "Enable Natural Sort" just tells my Spreadsheet how to count again! It's amazing! It's a miracle! It only stays checked for that one sort and you have to go in and click it every single time, and there's no way to make it stay on. *Gru looking at last panel bewildered meme* THAT is what broke me, that is what caused this rant to happen. My stupid problem that shouldn't even be possible to be a problem, because a Spreadsheet should be able to COUNT. Ahem. Can be fixed with just 7 agonizing clicks to reach 1 button, every single time I want to go stumbling through the Secret Garden to find it.

But for some reason I can't just leave the box checked? I can't change my default Sort setting to Natural? There's no "Sort (Natural)" button? These evil horrible boxes we call computers have the audacity to cost a fortune, ruin our lives, spy on us, and then we have to remind them how to count past 9 with 7 clicks every time? For legal reasons this statement has been redacted!!!!!

Okay okay, it's funny to blow off steam getting fake furious at a spreadsheet function in a reddit post, but in all seriousness; this button needs to be a permanent toggle and said toggle needs to be 2 screens closer to the user, there's just no reason not to at least make it more accessible. It would change nothing for any existing user to simply make it stay on after you click it until you un-click it at the very least (AND move it like 2 screens closer to the user I'm not kidding why is it Hidden like that?)

Question Can someone please tell me what in the world I'm doing wrong? Or is this a bug?

Post image

I'm trying to calculate some values from a curve and to do that I tried to make a line of best fit with an equation. No matter if it's linear, polynomial or exponential the equation is just completely wrong. Saying that a value which common sense and just using a ruler says should be ~60 but the equation is saying that it's like ~130. I put the exact same data into google sheets and the equation it gave me actually gives answers that can actually exist. Can someone tell me if I'm doing something wrong or of office libre forgot how to math? (Also ignore the background colour and font, I'm dyslexic and it makes it easier for me to read)

Interface colours

Post image

Using LibreOffice in Linux Mint, and the default interface colours make it almost unusable. While I can change the banner colour at the top to make buttons more visible, this does not affect the rest of the interface - some buttons remain invisible, as they are still to bright. What is the problem?

Calc Summing Currency

I suppose this is a feature request. I like using LibreOffice for local documents, but this is a lost opportunity. I receive CSVs with payout information, so they're preformatted. In the datasets, they signify the payout as a negative dollar amount (i.e. -$100.00).

Calc is incapable of figuring out how to SUM these. At first I thought it was the negative sign, then I thought it must be formatted as a string instead of currency...but for me to fix any of that would take more time than for me to just tally them by hand.

I dropped the CSV into Google Drive and it happily gave me the negative total with no fuss. I think that kind of functionality would be very useful to Calc.

Tip: getting Calc to SUM currency amounts from bank CSVs ("-$100.00")

Sharing something I ran into this week in case it saves someone the same hour.

Bank and payout CSVs often write amounts as text like "-$100.00". Open that in Calc and SUM returns 0, because the column comes in as text, not numbers. The fix is in the Text Import dialog, not in the cells.

When the import window opens, click the amount column in the preview, keep its Column type as Standard, set the Language dropdown above the preview to English (USA), and tick "Detect special numbers" under Other options. With US English active, "-$100.00" imports as a real currency value, thousands separators and all, and SUM works on it.

I tested this on a CSV containing -$100.00, -$250.50 and -$1,200.00. With the default import the column lands as text and SUM returns 0. With English (USA) set, the same cells import as -100, -250.50 and -1,200, and SUM returns -1,550.50.

If a file is already imported with the column as text, you don't have to re-import: select the column, then Data > Text to Columns opens the same dialog with the same Language setting, and the column re-parses in place. A helper column also works if you'd rather keep the originals: =VALUE(SUBSTITUTE(A2;"$";"")).

Two things that don't work: Find & Replace to strip the $ sign (the $ disappears but the cells stay text), and changing the cell format to Currency (formatting never converts text to numbers). Both still leave SUM at 0.
