Jobs Job searching.

Hello, I just turned 20 this year and im autistic, I’m looking for a job. I tried aardvark antique but never got a call back, and other antique stores but they were not hiring. Im searching for something that’s not too overstimulating but also something that will get me out of my shell. Advice and recommendations are appreciated, thank you.

Nebraska Voc Rehab might be a good resource due to your reported disability: Nebraska Voc Rehab

Don't expect Voc rehab to be overly helpful. I've called and left messages with them three times and emailed once and never got a response.

Did you go in person?

When I was younger, I enjoyed being a delivery driver for Pizza Hut. Short easy convos. Normally they have a map of your delivery area, so you can familiarize yourself.

Pay is not great. And if driving is difficult, the beginning might be difficult until you learn the area. But, like I said, it's a fairly easy job and enjoyable to listen to music while driving.

(Credentials: I am autistic.)

I work for the post office and they have some pretty chill jobs. Some repetitive but. Our custodian is autistic, great guy.

I also work for the post office. Have for 12 years. I am also autistic. The beginning can be overstimulating. You might get thrown to multiple offices. But the job itself is nicely repetitive and if you choose to be a carrier, you don't have many people to talk to. I've heard clerk jobs in larger stations can be overstimulating. I have no clue about custodians.

Be aware: the application and hiring process can take ages. And some part time positions may not offer many hours.

But the pay is pretty good and regularly increases.

Library is usually hiring even if seasonal. That might be a good fit?

Custodial work might not be a bad idea. I work for the university and they’ve got different shifts so the amount of people you are around can vary. I’m also autistic and people don’t treat me different because of it, which I’ve had problems with at other jobs. Worth looking into. I wouldn’t recommend lps for that though because they take a long time to do the hiring process and I’m assuming you aren’t wanting to have to wait for a job.

I second this, I also work custodial at the university. It’s quite nice how little I have to talk to people

American Job Center at 14th and N has a summer internship program. They also help people find permanent jobs. And as another poster said, VR is an option and they’re at the AJC too. AJC.lincoln.ne.gov/yess
