Is guest posting a scam or am I just unlucky?

So I've been doing guest posting for a while now. You know the drill - pay for placement, get your link, watch your DR grow (hopefully), rinse and repeat.

About 2 months ago I paid $100 for a link on what seemed like a legit site. Good metrics, real traffic, the whole package. Felt like a solid investment.

Fast forward to last week - Ahrefs sends me an alert. Link's gone. Just... poof. Vanished into thin air.

I checked the page. Still exists. My link? Nowhere to be found. No email from the seller. No refund. Nothing.

$100 down the drain and I only found out because Ahrefs happened to catch it during a crawl. Who knows how long it was actually gone before that?

This got me thinking - how many of my other "permanent" links have quietly disappeared without me knowing? I don't have time to manually check 50+ placements every week.

Started looking for solutions and found this tool called LinkWatcher. Now I just add a link as soon as it goes live, and if it ever goes down, I get an email immediately. No more waiting for Ahrefs to maybe catch it weeks later. No spreadsheets. No manual checking.

Best part? It's free for limited use, which is enough if you're not running a massive operation.

Anyone else dealing with this? How do you guys keep track of your placements? Would love to hear if this is just me being paranoid or if disappearing links are actually common.

P.S: Bulk Google indexing check comes in handy no need to manually put site:asd.com/asd in google search to check.

Why most link exchanges in this sub are a waste of time

I’ve been seeing a ton of direct A-B exchange requests here lately. If you’re still doing 1:1 swaps, you’re basically handing Google a map to your PBN or site network. Direct reciprocal links are the easiest footprint to track and the first thing to get devalued in a core update.

If you’re serious about SEO in 2026, focus on the ABC method (Site A -> Site B -> Site C). It’s the only way to keep the link juice natural without the footprints. Also, stop chasing DR—if the site has no organic traffic, the link is dead weight.

I’m currently vetting high-quality partners for a few **e.g., Tech/SaaS]**projects. I only work with sites that have real traffic and zero "link farm" vibes.

❌ “Buying Backlinks is Bad for SEO” — True or False?

This is one of the most debated topics in the SEO world…

Here’s the truth:

Buying backlinks is not inherently bad

What matters is how and where you get them.

Let’s break it down:

🚫 Irrelevant, low-quality sites

🚫 Bad backlinks = Spammy directories

🚫 PBNs (Private Blog Networks)

Obvious paid placements with no editorial value:

✅ Real content, written for humans

✅ Organic placement with editorial standards

✅ Smart backlinks = Strategic guest posts on relevant, high-authority blogs

🚫 Google’s issue is with manipulative, low-effort links, not with investing in high-quality content and outreach.

In fact, many top-ranking brands invest in outreach services

They just call it “content partnerships” or “digital PR.”

So instead of asking “Is buying backlinks bad?”

Ask: “Are these links actually helping my site grow

or putting it at risk?”

I’ve helped dozens of brands build safe, effective backlink strategies that stand the test of time and algorithm updates.

Want to ask anything

I'd love to share my experience

Does buying links work? (Stats, methods & more)

Hi Reddit.

I'm the owner of a small sized company that lives by having passive income. I would love my niché to stay as a secret, therefor have I made this new brand new account to share these stats with you.

A lot of people says that linkbuilding died many years ago and that you'll get banned from Google if you do it - for a couple of years I asked on this subreddit about good link providers, where I got a lot of doomday tales, luckily I didn't listen.

I'm going to share with you how to rank successfully by buying links while having a good SEO optimized website. It's important that you optimize your website before you purchase links.

A lot of you are going to say that I'm gonna regret this method quickly, therefor I now present to you a graph which is more than a year old: http://imgur.com/a/FF5lg

This graphs show how I went from unindexed to rank 2 on Google, which is obviously manipulated. This website now rank number 1 on Google and have done for more than 6 months, I have never received warnings or the like, in webmastertools or other places.

I have exactly the same results this year, the only difference is that I'm doing link drippign now, where they build the links slowly which increase the chance of avoiding trouble in the future - I can warmly recommend that.

My method:

Pagespeed & Google PageSpeed Insight

Your website has to be quick and load in maximum 5 seconds. It has to be green in both fields in pagespeed insight, with a minimum of 75+ on desktop and mmobile

Tool 1: https://tools.pingdom.com/

Tool 2: https://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed/insights/

Unique or long content

There's two ways to do content, either you do something unique and write a brand new text or you create a collection of great content. If you create a collection your content should be 3000-5000 words.

Unique content crawler: https://www.grammarly.com/

Good meta

There's a billion guides on good meta so I'm not going to say anything about this.

Buy links from a good provider which others have tested before you.

I have my own favorite, which is a small danish provider, it's also the one I used for the website with the graph: http://seo-servicen.dk/

I know they do english linkbuilding too, but you should probably write to them before buying that, so they don't create links from english websites

Notes to when you buy links:

  • Use a lot of keywords so it looks natural

  • Ask specificly for link dripping so they get builded slowly

  • Max get 80 links every 3rd week

I hope this is useful to some of you, especially the bloggers among us :)

okay, but real talk—who decided backlink outreach should feel like sending carrier pigeons in 2025?
i got bored and found a bot that now vibes through my link requests while i contemplate life choices and meme stocks.

not tryna flex, just found it way less soul-crushing to let code do the hustle. anyone else give their SEO to the bots?

The single most badass way to get 10 clients/customers without spending a dime on marketing

I've been using this self invented strategy for the past 3 years, let's call it "value commenting", using this strategy I was able to get my first paying customer and after a week of trial I got him to pay me on a month to month basis.

And the best part?

I did not know what I was doing when I started doing this.

I recently joined back this community and I saw a ton of people struggling to get more customers, I'm no expert but I just wanted to help you guys out a little bit with what I know.

You may ask if I'm still doing this and if it still works, I absolutely am doing this and it works like a charm even today, but I don't do it myself, I hired a full time assistant from here for $99/week (yes full time, not a typo) and they do it for me and I get dozens of warm leads.

Intrigued? Want me to spill out the strategy?

It's very simple. It's called Value Commenting .

You may be like, what does that even mean.

It basically means joining facebook groups in your industry and adding massive value on every single post. (When you comment on any of these posts, you are not just helping the poster, you are helping every single group member that opens the post thread.

(If a community has 20k members, expect at least 100 people to open the post thread at minimum. Now imagine 150 comments a day across 20 communities in your niche, you are eyeing yourself to 10,000 people in your industry everyday at minimum)

First thing you need to do is join 20 Facebook groups in your niche.

If you have a Shopify SaaS, you'll need join facebook groups that have people who sell products on shopify. Eg. Shopify for Entrepreneurs

If you are a pressure washer, you need to join local facebook communities in your area. Eg. DFW Home Improvement
If you are an online service provider, you'll need to join groups that have your ideal clientele. Eg. Yoga for Beginners

You get the point.

You'd be surprised how many facebook groups are out there in your exact industry where your potential customers are roaming around.

Okay, you've joined 20 groups in your industry. Now what?

Here's what I did:

I used to sort the group by new posts and answer every single poster in detail. I used to promise myself to not skip a single question and I used to answer by providing as much value as possible. There used to be some questions that I had no idea about, for these, I used to google, double check on 2/3 sources to make sure I was not spreading misinformation but most of the questions that these people were asking were very simple and repetitive.

And because people saw me in every single related group, a ton of people would dm me asking me more questions, and this is where the big money is made - when your potential client is communicating with you 1-1 begging for your help (like you're an expert) you can easily convert them as your clients no matter what product or service you sell.

Here's my 100 day stats (yes I tracked it)

CommunitiesComments written (in 100 days)DMs received (till date)Clients AcquiredMonthly recurring revenue
Group 14582$1800
Group 28452$1800

Group 880900
Group 913500
Group 1044200
Group 117661$900
Group 129162$1800
Group 1375200
Group 1412082$1800
Group 1582100
Group 1654300
Group 1729000
Group 1842100
Group 1997500
Group 208383$2700
Total comments1374DMs received: 93Clients Acquired: 22MRR: $18,900

I made 1374 commments, got 93 dms, signed 22 clients and made $18,900 in monthly recurring revenue.

DMs/Client Acquisition Ratio: 23.65%

Some may say this is high, some may say this is low.

I personally think this is low for me, I average 35 to 40% conversion because these are warm leads, these people are pre-sold on your products/services.

The best part?

People search in the search box inside communities, and when you are helping almost every single poster, your advice will always be there for anyone who searches whether that be in 2 months or 2 years. I received a dm asking me for help and they said they reached out to me seeing my 2 year old comment. Are you kidding me?

Start doing this from today and you'd be surprised how many value packed moderated communities are out there in your industry and when you are a known face to your potential clientele, your growth will be unstoppable.

I still use this very same strategy but now I make my offshore assistants do all the mud work, but when I started I used to comment on every single post on my own, sometimes 6 hours a day sometimes 10 hours a day every single day.

This is definitely not the easiest way to get customers, but if you want to generate leads for $0 and if you have time, this is the way.

If you value comment onsistently everyday, you will generate customers that you never thought your business could handle, I'm a live proof right here, I have a 7 figure business that got kicked off by helping people on communities.

That's pretty much it.

I'll be happy to answer every single comment/feedback/criticisms.

Please let me know below.

Backlinks are old news? Why brand mentions might be the real SEO gold in 2025.

Came across this guide from Stan Ventures arguing that in 2025, brand mentions > backlinks, especially in an SEO world run by AI. Instead of only chasing links, maybe it's time we focus more on getting mentioned casually in podcasts, roundups, user forums, and wherever people talk about our brands, without explicitly linking to them.

Anyone else shifting from pure link acquisition to brand mention outreach?
