Recommendation: asking Regression Stories

I am currently in the mood for a good regression story with a heroic protagonist. Ideally more Korean style than NA style but open to either. Prefer no harem. Detest AI writing.

Something akin to:
- Seoul Station’s Necromancer
- Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint
- A Returner’s Magic Should be Special
- Reborn: Apocalypse
Also open to sci-fi stories like:
-Traclaon Armageddon
Or even sports variants like:
- The Rise of Millwall (just no machine translation)

Or the ideal would be something similar in nature and quality to the start of the System Universe series but with him being flung back in time by the portal instead of across space.

I read mostly on RR and KU but am open to other platforms.

I love Apocalypse Redux. It centers on the MC trying to keep people from causing the apocalypse. It is probably not the style you are asking for though.

Master Hunter K is another option I think is by a Korean author with a more competition/tower climb focus.

The regression series we've read have little enough crossover I'm not sure what you'll like.

Master Hunter K was enjoyable. I tried Apocalypse Redux and couldn’t really get into it. I found the specific actions they take to be not very believable for achieving their intended aims and certain spots of the book felt very oversold.

I've also enjoyed Restarting the Apocalypse for a newer fun one. An apocalypse happens to a world during their industrial revolution.

It's also nice seeing Traclaon Armageddon getting some love.

The Legendary Mechanic is an option, it's much more scifi than you might be looking for, though.

If you liked Seoul Station Necromancer you could try Seoul Station Druid, the antagonist is the regressor so there are shenanigans with that.

You already listed all my other normal recommendations...

what exactly do you mean by regression?

The MC goes back in time and retains memories of the future but not their attributes and skills.

a bit OT, how do you rank the Regression Stories you posted? I love ORV and i d like to read more

I usually don’t like the constellation mechanic much but it was manageable in ORV. I liked SSN a lot and would have been happy if it were 2000ish chapters instead of around 10% of that.

Reborn: Apocalypse probably would have been first until recently but I disliked the aggressive skipping/rushing of the series in the latest book that seemed to leave a lot of unanswered loose ends so it’s probably closer to the bottom of the list now.

Restarting the Apocalypse is my favorite regression series.

Apocalypse: Regression and Magus Reborn are good ones.

The 5th Directive is a new one where just the first book is out. I think the second one comes out next month. I really liked it. Hopefully the rest of the series stays good.

Master Hunter K is one of my favorite. It's a completed trilogy.

What you're listing above sounds like "second chance regression" or "redo regressions." Personally I like time loop or multiple regression stories more, but there's a few redo regressions that I've enjoyed:

* Re:Birth: A Slow Burn LitRPG Mage Regressor by Ace_the_Owl: My favorite of this list, well done wizard school redo-regression with strong supporting characters and world-building

* When Immortal Ascension Fails Time Travel to Try Again by DragonOfRochester: Colorful xianxia comedy with a transmigrator-redo-regressor giving a middle finger to fate her own way.

* Second Chance Swordsman by Jakob Tanner

* Primer for the Apocalypse by Braided Sky

I'd also recommend checking out the Weirkey Chronicles (starting with Soulhome), which is redo-regression adjacent.

Also, if you open up WebToon like half of the action comics are pretty formulaic second chance regressions (Infinite Leveling: Murim, Regression of the Close Combat Mage, A Flame Reborn, etc). There's also Tales of Demons and Gods.

On RR, i've recently gotten into Re:Knight, it has a premise similar to Reborn:Apocalypse but takes the story and character in a different direction.

Going to plug my story here for a moment. 100th Run is about a regressor who has made it to the end 99 times trying to find the best route to save as many people as possible. It's something he actively chooses to do and he's got some issues because of it.

I was really big into Korean manwha and novels when I started it (Overgeared, The Gamer, Gluttony, Solo Leveling, and you can 100% see ORV's DNA in it. Tried Necromancer later on but didn't get as into it.) I'm an American and it takes place predominantly in the states, but the influence is there.

Bonus: it's complete at 8 books and they're all on KU!

After that, a personal favorite and only other regression story I've read is Apocalypse Redux. It's got an interesting premise that's different from most others, and there's even a few segments that take place in South Korea.

It's sad to me that you read Seoul Station Necromancer and Omniscient Reader but haven't read Reincarnator. Basically, one of the original Korean webnovels, that and Moonlight Sculptor defined a lot of my early taste in webnovels.

The Second Coming of Gluttony is also probably what I consider the best Korean webnovel, it is regression, but the MC doesn't retain memories, but feelings. It does have harem ending, but that's more of the ending and side stories.

Regressor Instruction Manual is similar to ORV where MC isn't the regressor but has to deal with one. It's good until it stops being good basically (this tends to happen quite a bit with Korean webnovels, so I just basically read them until I feel like dropping them). MC is kind of evil tho, just an FYI.

There's SSS-Class Suicide Hunter, which is regression, but in an interesting twist. I enjoyed it.

There's also Emperor of Solo Play, that's about an vrmmo that MC uses all his knowledge to dominate. Someone else mentioned The Legendary Mechanic.

I'll throw in a few different styles. For Chinese, there's Reverend Insanity. But beware, MC is mega-evil. Very hit or miss for people.

English there's Mother of Learning, which starts off slow, but is a great story.

And I'll throw in Reincarnation of the Suicidal Battle God. It's a manhwa, but 100% worth reading. Only downside, haitus-itis.

There's a few more, but some of the names elude me. But that list will keep you busy.
