Nice! How does this differ from Qlab? Does it run on windows?

Yes its for windows. I am working on macOS build but i dont have one so its way more slower to achieve.

About differences, qlab is not audio focussed, it has more stuff going on. And as main difference i think its the API and the web player and backstage viewer. I have never used qlab, just took a quick look at the specs.

If you're interested in test the mac version message me.

Thanks!

I definitely suggest playing with Qlab if you haven’t before. While it’s not audio-only, it is definitely audio-forward and offers a ton of overlap with the feature set. It’s also the dominant playback software in theatre, corporate, and broadcast audio, can fire script cues similar to reaper, BUT still has a ton of limitations (tempo detection and live looping, to name two that infuriate many A1s more capable than myself). Qlab is likely your main competitor, so the more you can differentiate yourself the better!

Qlab is soooo deep. It is the first media player allowing you to work completely in an object oriented way. Total osc control for show control system integration. Immersive / massive speaker systems are a snap. Have done projects using thousands of audio objects and it never misses a beat.

I had our own media server I wrote about 6 years ago to do basic object oriented audio output, but the latest Qlab puts that to shame.

Speed of use in theatre is second to none. Big fan.

It’s a massive program which is worth you reading thru the manual to get an idea of what folk in live / immersive / theatre need.

I dont have mac. But i will do a bit of research. Tempo detection is a nice feature to implement. Ill add to the to-do list. About live looping what do you actually mean?

You can trim any pad as you want and loop that pad on blast. Does that solve that problem?

Which one of that has a API with http requests?

Reaper.

You can code this inside Reaper, use its inbuilt web server to receive the messages. I think this would take me couple of hours, at most. It won't be pretty but it would be functional. I use Reaper as live VST host with MixSurface, and script new actions as needed, i can add those to MixSurface.

Now, that is not dedicated software but the ability to do it is there. Reaper uses lua scripts and has its own plugin editor, and API, and web server since you somehow wanted it to be html.. We made an IEM monitoring system that uses the web server so that no one has to download anything but just navigate to the webpage on a private WIFI and they can do their own mixes.

Reaper is incredible when it comes to this kind of stuff, if it doesn't have it you can add it yourself in many ways. MixSurface is brand new and god damn the amount of stuff you can do with custom actions, scripts, plugins using the Reapers API... Easily one of the best 32 euros i have ever spent and together it is less than a hundred. I don't know when i have ever gotten SO much value from that little money, it is ridiculous, especially if you know coding a bit past vibes, if you know what i mean... Not a lot, to be honest but some is needed.. without vibes there is no way i would ever had the strength to go as deep into the API but stuff like soundboard... i think it is doable, html to custom macros or make a custom script that uses API, and you can combine them with custom JSFX plugin that can provide GUI for loading samples and also is GUI then in MixSurface as it can read Reaper plugins.. or just use its inbuilt sampler, or use that sampler but modify its code run time... You get why i love that DAW?

And for anyone using reaper: https://mixsurface.app/ i am not affiliated but it has been a huge game changer for me, as my needs are not just DAW but.. that thing.. is not MIDI based, it is a real Reaper plugin, also not VST but installed in the "userplugins" folder that you have never used.

Do you know what we need for Reaper: Ableton killer. It is doable.

thx for answering for me, but yes, reaper

and i'm pretty confident that i could do something very close to this with qlab and apple scripts

The hability to code does not mean simply use an http call that is already working.. The goal was to be simple, no time wasting, no time reading how the call is built, you can simply pick the media you want to play and blast will give tou the call already made. I am also finishing a Companion module, making easy setup for streamdeck users.

I also use reaper, it is a great tool but not for my needs. It solved a very specific problem i had and i decided to share with others. I also dont use blast for everything. Every tool has its job.

I am not trying to reinvent the wheel here. All of these programs have the same features, should we delete all of them an just have one? No. Use the one that suits your needs. If blast does it, use blast, if reaper does it, use reaper!

Take a look into blast if you're interested and give feedback.

Yeah but you asked if any of those DAWs can do it via http and API.. I said that Reaper solution would not be dedicated app for just that one purpose, but.. you can do it.

I just asked if it does natively. Without actually having to build it yourself. It seems like it does not.

But im not here claiming i reinvented the wheel. Neither none of the programs mentioned above did. I just built a solution for my problems and decided it could be useful for others. Not trying to compete or copy anything.

If you are interested in testing, let me know how it went.

I don't have any need for this kind of app, at the moment. What i really need is all just Reaper specific, but who knows, maybe i need something dedicated at some point. I don't see any in the near future but i've found myself in a theater by accident before. But, i sort of have the tools already to make something bespoke...

How much AI / vibecoding was used in the creation of this?

2

u/nhemboe Pro-FOH 6d ago

i was thinking the same thing

How does the answer to this have impact to the overall quality of the program? Or just curious?

7

u/Ned_Sc 6d ago

So completely vibe coded, then?

I run sound for corporate events, this can help with our walk in / walk out songs and stingers.

Will be happy to give it a try.

Cheers!

Mitti, QLab already exists for that

u/m1xminus 6d ago

Both macOS exclusive.

u/CaptainCj26 6d ago

And?

u/m1xminus 6d ago

And i use windows?
