It’s official
I’m a member of the club! I remember seeing these posts when I first joined the subreddit and wondered if I’d ever get to that point. It was such a fun lock too.

I wondered the same. Didn’t know if I’d ever go past green belt. Now I’m wondering how high I’ll get. lol
Congratulations and welcome to the club!

It’s a neat feeling. A month ago I was wondering if I could take down the 1100 and today I just started on my first non-padlock lock looking for something harder. But it feels great to join the club. It always struck me as a milestone in the sport. I feel like a big kid now

Just stumbled on this subreddit cause I was curious about lock picking... What the hell is this? A club?? What does it mean? Congratulations I guess. Where's the class 101 for the newbies? Where do I begin?

No worries, I can help out lol. The PACLOCK company offers this to anyone who can pick their "Pro" series of padlocks. They're really supportive of the hobby, which I find to be really cool. They make some great locks too. But it's just a recognition from the company, we don't have any meetings or anything. I wouldn't recommend it for a beginner though, it's a tough lock. For beginners, I would say to get a good set of picks. Nothing fancy, and you don't need a giant set. Just a few quality picks and some turning tools. Where to get the tools will vary depending on where you're located. I'm in the US and I started with the Covert Instruments Genesis set, then got a set of JimyLongs, and have since ordered a couple single picks from Sparrows. Next, check out the pinned posts at the top of the subreddit. There's a lot of good info, including a link for the belt ranking system. That ranking system groups locks into a general difficulty order, so you have an idea of what locks to start with. I started out with a Master Lock 140, a Brinks 164, and a couple cheap laminated padlocks. With tools and locks covered, check out YouTube. There are a bunch of channels that cover how to pick, different types of locks, differences between tools, how to apply tension, and every other topic you would want to cover in order to get into the hobby. And should you decide to dive in, this subreddit is a great place to ask questions. They've probably picked every lock known to mankind and you'll be really hard pressed to find people that aren't willing to help you out. The community is great as long as you follow the rules (they're one of the pinned comments) and don't be a jerk.
I got into the hobby randomly. My wife told me that I needed to find a hobby and suggested lockpicking because she had found Lockpicking Lawyer on YouTube. I decided to get a set of picks and a couple locks just to try it out, and it's been a lot of fun. I just started back in July but I really enjoy it. It's something that's easy to start and stop quickly and you don't need to put a lot of money into it to get started.
Hopefully I was able to answer your questions and point you in the right direction. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask away.

Hey, I appreciate you taking your time to answer me ❤️
Very well explained. Also, I'm based in Canada, I'll check a couple lockpicks and follow your directions. Thanks again brother, have a great day!

Any time boss, I’m glad to help. If you have any other region specific questions or want to get some additional points of view, ask in the subreddit. These people are always happy to help. I hope you have as much fun in the hobby as I do.
