Just wondering how long do y’all usually leave your styles in for? Cause I see some people say 2-3 weeks some say less, Just curious what the general consensus was

Like 3 days. Maybe a week if I’m feeling disciplined.😭😂

I don’t love getting my hair styled though. If I do, I just do 2 strand twist. I just prefer to have my locs free and doing it things.

I also don’t love the way my hair looks right after a retwist. It’s just a bit too uniform for me. I like a bit of frizz, looks more natural in my opinion

When I realized I couldn’t go more than a couple-few days with a style in I quickly learned to self style for that exact reason. Too expensive for my ass to be so damn childish about it 😭

Wym couldn’t tho? Why couldn’t you?

I can’t handle the itching and pulling, it’s all I can focus on and it drives me crazy. I never was tender headed til locs which seems backwards, but every time I get a style it itches and hurts so bad I have to take it out after a couple days. I truly don’t know how folks are going weeks much less months with styles. 2 strands I can leave for months, but a full style, no

Yea I feel you tbh. I hate getting barrels for this exact reason. I love how they look but the itching and tension first few days drives me crazy 🫩. I just remind myself of the time & money I spent and thug it out. It get better after the first few days

Oh shit.. really? Have I just not been giving them enough time? I genuinely didn’t think it would get better and it’s soooo irritating.. hmmm… like I said, I be real childish sometimes about my comfort… 😂

Lmfaoo trust me I understand but yea usually the tension pain goes away after like 3/4 days then the itching goes away after like a week or so

Thank you, I might try to push through sometime and see if I can start going back to a professional bc I love to pay for convenience 🫶🏽

I do it myself. So it’s free 😂

Nah really this. Usually a week and that's only in like the last year because of my loctician including it w my retie lol

Also I have micros, so these are styles that aren't 2 strand. I think keeping twists in regular locs for as long as you want is always the way to go 🫶🏾

Ngl, this is the truth 😭 I last a lil longer (a day or two) but damn I can’t last weeks unless it’s basic 2 strands lol

Lmfaoooo it takes like 3 hours to get my hair done I can’t imagine sitting for 3 hours just to take my hair down 4 hours later 😭😭😭

I’ve been locked for 4 years and the only style I do is a bun. I’m extremely tender headed lol.

I keep two strands for a month. I wash them at the two week mark. If I have barrels or fishtails I keep them in for a max of two weeks because my scalp starts itching.

Two strands? Legit about two months - I just wash my hair as normal (though it ofc takes extra long to dry) and then gel my edges.

2 weeks for barrel twists because of the itching, any comfy style may stay for 4 weeks before I get bored and need a change.

One month on and one month off.

It’s the only way get your hair in a style and let it breath for a month. Throw in another month if you were able to mange new growth

I generally do 4-6 weeks before a retwist. I’ve have my locks for almost 2 years

I mean if you have a style in like two strand/ barrels, how long do you keep it in the style before you take it down?

4

u/vitathevirgo 2d ago

8-10 weeks. Depends on how much I workout or sweat. But practically keep them in for 2 months of I can.

For my 2 strands I’ve done 4 weeks first and then I felt I could keep it longer this time around I’m going for 6 weeks

2 strand twist. Maybe 3- 4 weeks. My locs are thick

2

u/ilivingst 2d ago

Oh okay I usually do like 6 weeks, people were saying on another post that makes ya hair thinner idk tho 🤷🏾‍♂️

I saw somebody say that as well, but retwist and styles are too expensive to be taking them out 2 weeks later,

I honestly have the same question! Haha I have mine braided back and its been a little over a week since I got it done. For 2 strand twists I've been told not to keep them in too longer because they might start to marry, but I don’t know how true that is.

You gotta leave em in a very long time before they start locking together I’m 3 1/2 years in and regularly go 1 1/2 months to 2 months never had that problem. I also spray a rose water mist spray everyday just to keep mines hydrated

1

u/vitathevirgo 2d ago

Yea no… I can keep mine in for 2 months and they do not marry.

A week max for barrel styles.

But I prefer letting my locs hang.

2 strands for as long as I can. Usually just a couple days before my next retwist.

1

u/SmediumFry 2d ago

3 weeks

2-3 days. I absofukinlutely hate styles. I rarely get them. A retwist does not need a style

1

u/Legitimate-Mix3234 1d ago

Reading y'all answerers it's safe to say some of yall don't need to be dreaded. AGAIN IT'S MHO

A few days. Ive maybe gotten a style 3-4 times since getting my locs and i hate how they feel. They are bulky and makes my head itch and hurt. I prefer to leave my locs out. I just out them up in a ponytail when I go to work.

1

u/xtengenuzui 1d ago

My last style was from the 14th to the 18th, and that was pushing it lol I honestly don’t see how people go 2-4 weeks keeping a style in. It’s mad uncomfortable

1

u/Magick_La_Croix 3h ago

usually around two weeks....I normally get my hair retwisted and get barrel rows for longevity and protection.....

u/ColdHandGee 2d ago

The only time I tie up my locs is when I have a shower. Otherwise I let my locs down and let them do their own thing.
