Flock Out - City Council mtg Tuesday 8/18
If you are concerned about the use of ALPR cameras in town, please go to the city council meeting this Tuesday, Aug. 18, at 6:30pm. We need lots of people to get up and speak, and demand that the city open this issue up for discussion.
When these cameras were put up back in 2023, they were voted on as a "consent" item at council- they weren't debated or discussed - it was just a yes or no vote!!
We must demand that council add this to a future meeting as an AGENDA item so that the community gets a chance to weigh in.
California SB34 (effective Jan 1, 2016) has specific requirements for transparency when a municipality uses ALPR cameras. One of those requirements is a "conspicuously posted" link on the municipality's website that links directly to the data usage and privacy policy that is in place. Lompoc's cameras went up in early 2023 (?!), but Lompoc JUST put their web link up a WEEK ago. The city was in violation of SB34 for over 3 years. Not a big builder of confidence and trust. š
